Am I the only one that thinks this isn't that great of an idea? Sure it may seem cool to make your own versions of their songs and such but there is a better idea to do then that, and that is to create your own music!!! Starting from scratch will be more rewarding in the end.

I think you are right about the fact that it's great to create your own music. But in releasing this an amazing opportunity is given to musicians. Learning, Transcribing and Analyzing music will become a lot easier with individual tracks. This is an amazing thing for a great band to do. Thanks to NIN and LOG this might become a common thing in the music industry. Awesome!

Well, yeah NIN did it first long ago, so it isn't innovative. And Radiohead had to gamble big time by doing their whole "It's Up to You" pay system. Both of which being free.
