AMS Neve, a leader in the design and development of digital and analogue audio systems and products, is pleased to announce that award-winning audio post production facility Skywalker Sound has purchased two AMS Neve Gemini Digital Film Consoles.
Skywalker Sound, a Lucasfilm Ltd. Entertainment Company, has installed a new 3-position, 96-fader console on the Kurosawa stage, and a 40-fader console on the recently remodeled Elia Kazan stage. The AMS Neve DFC Gemini is the world's foremost digital film mixing console, used throughout the film and video post production industry worldwide. Skywalker Sound has won dozens of awards for work on audio for major motion pictures, commercials, television, IMAX and other large-format film sound mixing, theme park attractions and video games, including 18 Oscars from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Skywalker Sound's magic can be heard on films including Zodiac, Cars, Polar Express, Million Dollar Baby, Saving Private Ryan, and the Star Wars series.
Academy Award-winning sound designer and mixer
Christopher Boyes says, "
The Gemini is a great console. This desk lends itself to sensitive dialogue film soundtracks as well as energetic action films. The equalizers quickly allow subtle, yet detailed changes with extreme accuracy; the compressors can provide lightning attack and release times while remaining nearly transparent." He adds, "
The filters are simply the finest ever, and allow for the ultimate in flexibility, permitting an aggressive or subtle touch as needed. The Encore automation package allows us to manipulate all of these components with ease, confidence, accuracy and speed. Having a tool like the Gemini allows us to spend our valuable mix time making good creative decisions and less time on the technicalities of the mixing interface."
The Academy Award-winning DFC Gemini was the first full-scale multi-operator Digital Film Console. It has rapidly established itself as the premier choice in Hollywood, often with the vast majority of the top-grossing films of the year internationally being mixed on it. Some filmmakers are so impressed with the console's performance that they give it an end credit in the movie. From the outset, the DFC Gemini was designed for optimum mix performance. At the heart of the DFC Gemini is the world's most powerful DSP mix engine, capable of delivering the legendary Neve sound across 1,000 audio signal paths at 96 kHz/24-bit in a single, high-resolution DFC signal-processing tower. No other digital film console can offer the sheer power required to handle the demands of tomorrow's blockbusters. The DFC Gemini is laden with features that take film sound to a new level. They include TFT Channel display, the Encore Plus automation system, Neve EQ, Dynamics and Bass Enhancement plug-ins with linked dynamics, expanded 12 Stem Mixing, and complete integrated machine control.
The new AMS Neve DFC Geminis will join other key Neve products at Skywalker Sound, including a Neve 88R 72-channel recording console with 149 automated inputs and 8x8 VSP Film Monitor section allowing 8-buss film mixing in conventional stereo of 5.1 surround and fitted with Encore Automation and Recall; as well as Neve 1072 and 1073 microphone preamps and the Neve 33609 stereo compressor.
