Protest The Hero debut "Sequoia Throne," their U.S. single, today on the band's MySpace page. The track comes from the Whitby, Ontario quintet's sophomore Vagrant release, Fortress, which will be in stores January 29, 2008.
"Bloodmeat," the opening track on Fortress, is also available today on iTunes (In Canada Only). Fans can check out a teaser clip of behind-the-scenes footage from the "Bloodmeat" video shoot on the band's MySpace page. "Bloodmeat" can already be heard in rotation on the Sirius radio channel, Hard Attack!
Protest's MySpace page also reveals the stunning new artwork for Fortress. The cover image is a riff on the Irish goddess of the forest, Flidais. The band has previously stated that Fortress does not revolve around a single concept, like Kezia, their 2006 debut, but is instead more closely akin to " goddess worship in the tradition of Robert Graves."
Protest The Hero also announces a major North American tour in 2008. The band will be on the road for a solid two months, with U.S. dates alongside Silverstein, A Day To Remember, and The Devil Wears Prada, beginning February 21st in Worcester, MA and currently wrapping March 30th in Pittsburgh, PA. See all dates below.
Protest The Hero formed seven years ago when the members were just 14-years old and released their highly acclaimed debut, Kezia, in early 2006. Decibel said of the disc, "Kezia is one of the most exciting start-to-finish amalgamations of thrash/power metal and punk/hardcore I've stumbled across in ages. Possibly ever.. The musicianship here dazzles." Revolver added, "With its bombastic bohemian rhapsodies, electrifying flashes of tech virtuosity, eviscerating thrash attacks, and dreamy acoustic refrains, Kezia might be the year's most magnificent debut."

: I love Protest The Hero music.
But they are always saying sh*t about Alexisonfire onstage, this is really unprovoked, and made me lose a lot of respect for them.
Actually I have met both bands, and they have got no ties with each other for some reason. Why do they hate Alexisonfire? its really sad...POSTED: 12/12/2007 - 12:31 pm / quote |

Are you kidding me from the song on myspace and bloodmeat alone, it can already be seen that fortress is much better than kezia which i though was impossible to do. Protest is the best band i have ever heard ever in their playing skills, working as a band and overall quality song structure.POSTED: 12/12/2007 - 12:34 pm / quote |

: you guys know how they recorded kezia? they hadnt really mapped out all the intricate parts, but in the studio they recorded it all in bits and then learned it all by listening to it afterwards. that defintaely takes patience and thought. hard to believe theyre (maybe not) even into their early twenties. this is how canadian bands should be comparedPOSTED: 12/12/2007 - 02:05 pm / quote |

hell yeah....buying tickets tomorrow
And to "Adtthosa", yeah...this album kicks Kezia's ass. I'm in no way saying kezia was a bad album, cause it was one of the best I've heard. But as far as...well, they really just evolved with fortress. You can hear it in the guitars and everything

I don't know if it was their overproduced myspace fight club wet dream or becuase of how shitty they were live, but the songs are great. Very BTBAM-esqe. Like Fall of Troy + BTBAM. Thumbs up. well..... as much as i like PTH..... BTBAM still kicks their ass..... i was supposed to see both PTH and BTBAM (and fall of troy too) in the same weekend but my ride bailed on me..... so i just saw BTBAM, ****in amazing, but i just had to clarify that however awesome the canadian dudes are..... the metal masters of NC are still better, but im bound to buy this album cuz i do love PTH's stylePOSTED: 12/12/2007 - 10:57 pm / quote |

Hmmmmm, **** you PTH
that US tour is shit. The closest to me is like 5 hours away and during the middle of the week. So i will definitely not be seeing them.. i'm not exactly pleased about that
haha, A Day to Remember...i remember..when they played in Jefferson, SD, population like 100 at the community center abuot 4 different times and i was there everytime, going they are way too poppy, why do we keep booking them? Now they're touring with PTH. I have mixed feelings about this. POSTED: 12/13/2007 - 01:31 am / quote |

: btbam blows protest out of the water, and i live in their hometown. PTH cites them as one of their biggest influences (which is rather obvious) but three things btbam has that protest lacks is diversity, variety, and even some maturityPOSTED: 12/13/2007 - 02:02 am / quote |

why can't you just write something like, "i think btbam blows protest out of the water" instead of trying to state it's like a fact. all it is is an opinion man. personally, i think btbam's music just sucks in general(don't get me wrong they're amazing musicians), but it's not like i'm forcing my opinions on everyone else.POSTED: 12/13/2007 - 07:33 am / quote |

: I love how people actually argue about who's better. It's your own opinion. Personally, I practically worship PTH 'cause I hate the hardcore scene with a passion. BTBAM's screaming vocals are so over-saturated. It's like listening to your average local band, but with an extreme amount of talent, musically.
Seeing PTH on Feb. 8th, kinda bummed that Silverstein is headlining. On the plus side, when dumb bitches are moshing to The Devil Wears Prada (fag band), maybe I can touch a booby POSTED: 12/18/2007 - 07:37 pm / quote |
manipulator
: right okay, sorry to sound like a prick. it's a deep-seeded distaste because they are *******s. stuck up and self-absorbed. i liked kezia until literally like two weeks ago, when i listened to it all the way through and found myself disliking it because it just had too much bump-and-grind, and every song was the same but re-arranged. tapping, off-beat rhythms, hard palm-muted chording and opera lady rody. whatever.
i realize btbam also could be said to be "always the same" on each track, but really, they aren't. i think they overdo the metal sections sometimes a bit, because i personally love songs like selkies, sun of nothing, and mordecai that span a great deal of territory. alaska (the song), croakies & boatshoes, and roboturner are tracks i dislike because they are, as well, too much chunk.POSTED: 12/19/2007 - 09:14 pm / quote |
manipulator
: ***meant to say, "but really, they ALL aren't."
my point is that with protest, every song is the same on kezia, as long as you exclude the outro to blindfolds aside.
that said, the intro to sequoia throne sounds like a result of paying a lot of attention to fall of troy's sets when they toured together recently.POSTED: 12/19/2007 - 09:16 pm / quote |

: LOVE THOSE SONGS, pretty epic(but BTBAM is even more epic) . Seein them in Winnipeg, again. Saw them with avenged sevenfold last year and with all that remains in May, they kicked major ass. Can't wait till the new album.POSTED: 12/23/2007 - 02:22 pm / quote |
huevos
: all this agruing is futile. PTH was influenced by BTBAM. that doesn't make automatically either of them better. they are great in their own fields. if you like a more accessible (compared to Between) technical maelstrom of trashcore power metal, then PTH is probably up your alley.
when i first heard of Protest, i was shocked at their display of musicianship. never heard anything like it before. so naturally, i was enthralled.
then i discovered Fall of Troy, BTBAM, Tera Melos, and that whole group of technical freaks.
out of all of them, i must say that i like BTBAM the most, since i like the deathcore scene with minimal to no breakdowns (kinda like the Black Dahlia Murder).
which brings me to my next point. BTBAM is more for those who like hardcore, trash, and death metal (with a little black metal too) with all the usual prog elements (although Colors goes a little into the avant-garde).
as i try to be as unbias as possible, i always thought of Between the Buried and Protest as having a master/apprentice relationship. but after hearing Sequoia Throne and Bloodmeat, i don't know who the master is now.POSTED: 12/26/2007 - 07:28 pm / quote |
