Next up for the Pistols: five sold-out shows at The Brixton Academy in London (November 8, 9, 10, 12 and 14). Additional shows in Manchester at the Men Arena (November 17) and at SECC in Glasgow (November 18) have been added due to overwhelming demand.

I might have missed something, like them admitting they've sold out, but otherwise it seems quite hypocritical to me.POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 12:59 pm / quote |

: ahh i can see why you'd saythat but look at the artist that we're there. More alternative based. But still it does contridict punk rock. Sid vicious must be rolling over in his grave these days. with angels and ariwaves being considered punk rock and all these whiny little bands talking about emotions being considered punk rock. Punk rock is about "no feelings" not whining about them.mulletman500 wrote:

Me too - it's rare to hear Blink even be called plain punk-rockl, never mind Angels and Airwaves I'd say.POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 02:11 pm / quote |

: I lost of musicians showed up to see them, there peers and people now performing. There was only a handful of non music celebs (who probably paid a lot to go). It was just a warm up show, probably for friends.

That's the thing with the Sex Pistols. They are considered the founding fathers of punk, but they really were anything but that. They were on a major label, they have t-shirts you can buy at Filene's, and they essentially put a market on anarchy (how the hell that works I don't know). Nowadays Johnny Rotten keeps on the spotlight by bashing every other successful artist and trying not to look hypocritical. The Clash and The Ramones were more punk than the Pistols, and they made better music (although that's not saying the Pistols didn't rock). And Rotten's a smart man, he just has an ego the size of Alaska.
Also Angels and Airwaves is about as punk as Herman's Hermits. It's Tom Delonge trying to be Bono, and a no-name backing band trying to be U2.POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 03:05 pm / quote |

I have to agree with cloudy_skies 100 percent though. These guys are a disgrace to the philosophy of anarchy. They should just call it quits. Enough is enough.POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 05:54 pm / quote |

: they sold-out!? first guitar hero and now late night shows? what's next. johnny rotten is turning out to be a hypocrite. he used to bash bands who for being involved in the spotlight. but nowadays, he himself and the rest of the pistols are widely publicized. don't get me wrong i really like the sex pistols but those things just seem un-punk to me.POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 06:16 pm / quote |

: I don't understand the outrage. These guys were ALWAYS about trying to make it big and make the biggest pile of cash that they could. It just didn't work out because they can't stand each other (that's why they only work together every five years and haven't written a new song since the seventies). Accusing The Sex Pistols of selling out is like accusing wolves of eating meat. That's what they do and what they have always done.
As for those "more punk" bands that were mentioned, The Clash and The Ramones, they also wanted to be big, big stars. Jeez, The Ramones had a single called "We Want The Airwaves." Each Ramone would have traded his left nut for a huge mainstream hit.
That's not criticism. They all wanted to be the best, be on top of the pile, and yes, make money. POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 07:05 pm / quote |

: ^^^ Thankyou! I was just going to post something similar. I can't believe people wonder why they do these things.
Punk may be 'cool' but it doesn't pay the bills; at least 'real' punk anyways . . .
These guys need money. That's the bottom line. 'Selling out' means making money. And in the end, that's what it's all about.POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 07:09 pm / quote |

They didn't ask all those celebrities to be there. They obviously all like the Sex Pistols so they're going to watch. Dumb comment.POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 07:11 pm / quote |

actually...
I'm pretty sure it is.
I remember seeing an interview done with the Sex Pistols way back in the day, and they were asked what they did with all the money they made.
The answer?
"We ****ing spent it, what do you think?"
Sounds like the same people do me.
Anyway, I'll definately be watching this.POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 09:24 pm / quote |

: whats wrong with being heard? selling out is one thing, but wanting everyone in the world to hear your music isnt a crime. now metallica, who, if an album sucks, will change their ways totally to fit with the populuses demands, are sellouts. point in fact, the pistols were good, we are still listening to them today, so why are we bitchen about them?POSTED: 10/30/2007 - 10:47 pm / quote |

they didnt go to the hall of fame because they kept getting past over every year.
Also i liked the performance, good energy. If you saw something wrong with it, you have probably never heard them play live before, they are not perfectionists.POSTED: 10/31/2007 - 01:58 am / quote |

Uhm, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of anger, which is a feeling, in the Sex Pistols music...Anyway, its about D.I.Y. and expression...Anyway, haha, defining Punk is useless.
