Sigur Ros follow the Top 5 success of their new album Me? su? i eyrum vi? spilum endalaust (With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly), with the release of the single 'Inni mer syngur vitleysingur'. One of the most anthemic and upbeat songs Sigur Ros have ever written, replete with stomping brass accompaniment and hooks big enough to land a whale, NME described it as hitching "The Beatles' 'Lady Madonna' piano to Arcade Fire's beat". Even more gloriously, it translates into English as 'Within me a lunatic sings'.
A previously announced special deluxe edition of the album will also be released in September solely on
sigurros.com. The content of this has been dictated by the feedback from fans through the band's website and includes an exclusive film shot by Nick Abrahams and a 196-page hardcover cloth-bound book of photographs shot by Eva Vermandel. These projects cover the latter stages of the recording process in London and New York, making the video for '
Gobbledigook', rehearsals in Iceland and being on the road through Mexico, America, the UK and Iceland. Neither are straight-forward documentary projects but intended as more impressionistic "
visual poems" capturing the mood and emotions that inspired the creation and performance of
Me? su? i eyrum vi? spilum endalaust. Additionally, each edition special edition will not only be individually numbered but include a unique strip of 16mm film from the '
Gobbledigook' video shoot, specially mounted within the front cover of the book. No two people will receive the same segment since each is a different portion of the original film; maybe Jonsi singing on a beach, perhaps naked people running through trees or if you are lucky (?) beautiful shots of genitalia swinging around.
The special deluxe edition is currently available to pre-order on the band's website - sigurros.com.
The band have also announced a number of UK shows for the autumn, as part of their world tour, including their biggest headline shows in the UK to date at Alexandra Palace. A second night has just been added due to massive demand. The dates are as follows:
11/04 - Wolverhampton Civic
11/05 - Blackpool Empress Ballroom
11/07 - Bristol Colston Hall
11/20 - London, Alexandra Palace
11/21 - London, Alexandra Palace
The album Me? su? i eyrum vi? spilum endalaust, not only crashed into the UK Top 5, but went straight into the Top 10 in Belgium, Denmark, Japan, Hong Kong, Ireland, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland with other high chart entries including Italy, Germany, Holland, South Korea and the US where the album debuted at no.15 on the Billboard chart - a quite remarkable feat for a band that sings in Icelandic!
