89-7 The River/KIWR FM is declaring this Sunday, December 16th, 2007 “Free Hugs Day” in Omaha. When the mall massacre occurred in Omaha we focused on the victims and their families and chose not to acknowledge the shooter.
His goal was to become famous through his actions we refuse to let him win. Instead we have decided to use the power of music to honor the memory of the victims, unite the community, move forward and rise above the tragedy this community has endured.
“
Free Hugs Day” in Omaha will be at Sokol Auditorium, 13th & Martha, starting at 6:30pm with a FREE concert featuring The Sick Puppies.
Their song “All The Same” helped launch the free hugs movement worldwide. Undertaken by Juan Mann, the Free Hugs movement has been featured by Oprah Winfrey on her nationally syndicated television program and the Free Hugs video has received over 20 million hits on the online site, YouTube.
