Album Of The Year: Place Your Votes

It's that time of year when blogs and news outlets start stacking up their favorite releases of the year.

But UG is different. This is a community, where the readers have a big say in the content. While we're busy maintaining the website and looking out for fresh rock news, you guys are rocking out and living the dream.

If anyone has the authority to vote for album of the year, it's you.

Since it could be hard to track all the votes in the comments, we decided the fairest way was to post a poll so the result and winner is clear.

Nominations were based on the most viewed album reviews posted throughout the year.

It's a pretty tough choice, so we don't envy you at all right now. We'll post the results in time for the holidays.

In my honest opinion, it would have been better as an instrumental album. Myles Kennedy's voice, vocals, and lyrics just ruin it for me. That being said, it would have been an incredibly boring instrumental album since the music was obviously written as repetitive music, intended to have vocals on it.

I know that a lot of people have forgotten, but the Van Halen album was pretty kick-ass (Tattoo was a hit or miss for certain fans). They definitely have not gotten the recognition they deserve for it. Wolfgang's bass playing is especially overlooked.

I saw 5150 live. As bad as that was comparared to the good Van Halen, this was just pathetic. Much of it was written in the old days and left on the cutting room floor for good reason.

What about Silversun Pickups' album "Neck of the Woods"? I love the new Deftones (which I voted for), as well with the new Pumpkins, Manson, and Muse; but Neck of the Woods is an outstanding album start to finish. Silversun Pickups are a very underrated band, and it's not a surprise they got overlooked on this list as well as the Grammys (then again the Grammys is the most throw away award show out there.)

Coheed and Cambria's The Afterman: Ascension hands down. They really brought their A game, Claudio stepped it up a notch with his, and everything is as it should be, back to what made them great. Thank the Gods that the NWFT and YOTBR days are behind us now.

I really think you should give NWFT and YOTBR another chance, man. They really are great albums, just open your mind a bit and don't think "old coheed", think "evolving coheed". They really are another aspect of their work Other than that, Ascension is really killer, can't wait for the 2nd part.
