UG Newsbites: Incubus, Madonna and RHCP

Incubus' manager Steve Rennie has played down suggestions that the band are set to take a "hiatus" and has said that the reports of a lengthy break have been blown out of proportion.

The California quintet previously took a lengthy break between their 2006 album "Light Grenades" and their July 2011 work "If Not Now, When?" and had suggesting that they are planning to take another hiatus, with Brandon Boyd implying he will record his second solo album.

However Rennie has moved to reassure fans that this isn't the case and the band are just in need of a break after over 18 months' worth of touring in support of "If Not Now, When?". [NME]

Madonna has added her voice to the host of musicians supporting Russian punk band Pussy Riot, who are currently on trial for "hooliganism".
The pop singer told AP:

"I'm against censorship, so I hope that the judge is lenient with them and that they are freed soon."

Russian President Vladimir Putin himself, meanwhile, claimed last week that the three detainees should not be judged too severely for their actions. [NME]

The band played a headlining show at Lollapalooza this past weekend, and will resume their I'm With You World Tour at the Staples Center in Los Angeles this weekend. [Antiquet.com]

Long time fan but after 2008 you guys really did injustice to your fan base. 18 month hiatus, extraordinarily high ticket prices, an album unlike no other, and now another long break. I truly do appreciate your three day live online concert series, but beyond that, it has been hard to love you guys.

No, they actually don't. They didn't even owe you the awesome music they made for the first 10 years or so of their career. As established artists, they can do what they want; they don't have to go out of their way to cater to entitled, self-centered fans such as yourself.

Also, you think 18 months is a long hiatus? Some bands take up to 5 years in between albums (Tool, Nine Inch Nails). Seriously, if you really respected their art, then you would have no issue with giving them a year-and-a-half break after all the effort they put into touring and recording.

A Crow Left Of The Murder was far from boring in my opinion..interesting tonalities, sounds and style, and Light Grenades was a nice album.

The last one wasn't good if not gor two or three songs..

About Incubus: They've always made amazing albums. Infast Light grenades is my favourite. The last album is actually damn good, if you give it time. It's a grower, not a shower.

They had to change and mix up things, like they will when they make the next record. I wouldn't want a throwback to the old. It would just do the old records an injustice and we'd castrate them for it.

Just my 2 cents.

Can't blame Incubus. They've been recording music since they were seniors in high school. They've got money and nothing to prove, so if they want to explore other areas of interest I say go for it. Maybe Brandon Boyd will release another art book. I love his work.

I can agree with you on CLoTM, songs like "Agorophobia" "Sick Sad Little World" and "Zee Deveel" are very cool songs lyrically and musically
