3 doors down was great before they sold out. Unfortunately they pulled the same thing as Greenday and Nickelback and sold out their sound for an image. Don't get me wrong, these guys are a great band, but when their music panders to the mass media, they are only adding to the problems of music today.

Music is mass media, shouldn't that be what every band wants? To have their music heard everywhere? I wouldn't say 3doors sold themselfs out, atleast not nearly as bad as Nickleback and GD. There's so many bands and groups and genres out in this age that sometimes stuff like this is a good idea, both music and moneywise. Atleast they are still producing great music, not just a bunch of b-tracks just to put out another record.

Meh, it's absolutely mediocre music, that's why. No depth, meandering monotone vocals, and equally boring instrumentals... but hey, its simple and you don't have to think at all in order to relate to the songs, so people like it. It really sucks that people don't search out more talented bands than the ones that are force-fed to them through the radio, but oh well. At least they have more of the same to enjoy this Christmas.

i was really surprised when i saw comments defending 3 doors down!! this and nickelback and daughtry and all the other cryin around "rock" bands, are to the brain what fast food is to the body. its mass produced, homogenized crap, designed to make a quick buck. its ok to consume a small portion now and then, but if you make a steady diet of it, youre going to get fat, ugly, all acne-fied, and die.

If you treat music as simply a way to earn money, then yes, but if you see it as an art form and a way to express yourself then you are completely and emphatically WRONG.

Good for their fans. This was the first band I ever liked, and their first album was the first CD I ever bought. I've since stopped listening to them, but hey, whatever.

And jeez guys, lay off the heavy doses of self-righteousness. In the end, whether a band "sells out" or not (an idiotic concept to begin with) doesn't really affect you, so stop belittling fans of music to feed your own starving egos.

Every band/artist is in music to make money. Though, that normally happens after they get one big song. So, with that one song, they then try to duplicate that so that they're whole record could be released as a single, which is where selling out comes in. It's disappointing to see and it sucks, but you have to understand, you aren't going to get anywhere and without money, you can't record and such. And if you don't sell out to get your music out there, there will be no one at your shows.

Come on people, bands have to make money to stay in the music business. They have to appeal to a wider audience. If they keep on playing the same stuff that only appeals to about 100 or so people know what will happen after a while.....those same 100 or so fans will start to say, "These guys are so boring and predictable!!" 3DoorsDown ROCKS!!

I like a few of their songs, but SOO many of them sound about exactly the same. Beginning of the song is a chord arpeggiated on an acoustic guitar or clean electric, then usually bursts into a full-band intro, then... go.

But I like most of their hits. "Kryptonite," "Loser," "It's Not My Time," and especially "When I'm Gone"

Meh, at least they're doing something for fans. Can't say I like them after seeing most of their songs being the exact same composition wise. But they've come out with some at least decent songs. What bugs me more is when people say oh, UG crowd wont like this just because, no it can't be because they really aren't all that special, not horrible, just not something really all that great.

One time a few years ago I went to a Benihana restaurant for my sister's birthday and The guitarist and drummer for 3dd were sharing our habachi grill. I never liked the band so I didn't know who they were until people came up trying to get photos with them and autographs. That's when my whole family got one with them for the hell of it. But I was eavesdropping while I was eating, and the guitarist was complaining about how the "music rock scene" was starting to bring guitar solos back into fashion and about how all this "Steve Vai" type stuff was coming back and he didn't like it. I always thought that was funny cus a few years later bands like avenged sevenfold and other new bands that used solos started to come out, whereas before it was only bands like them on the radio. Oh and the drummer said that he was trying to show off whenever he saw the drummer for Puddle of Mud watching them during their set. Pretty cool experience, just wish it was with a band I cared about.

Uh... not really true, as for "every band/artist is in music to make money." I know of plenty of bands who couldn't care less about the money; they just want to record, tour, and progress musically. Of course it takes money to do so, but that doesn't make it right for artists to make greedy attempts to appeal to the masses (rather than staying true to what they want to play)in order to make more than what they need. (although, if your music becomes popular and it's really what you want to play, congrats. there's nothing wrong with that)

Not every band wants to make some generic "smash-hit(s)" and call it a day. Sure, hits are always profitable and memorable for a short while (because the radio won't let you forget them), but they'll inevitably be forgotten in the coming years. /White Walls

ughh did you really just call me that? there are just so many things grammatically wrong with this sentence. you even left out the subject.... but you should at least look at your sentence before calling someone a dumbass so you don't spell words like "article" wrong.

anyway, i read it to be informed on just how 3 doors down could possibly bring anything cool for chrismas. obviously i'm not the only one that thinks they're awful. i think the reason so many people don't like them is because they're so basic and get way too much credit for as little as they're doing. someone above mentioned that as well. i'm sorry i'm not 13 anymore, i need something more complex than an "i miss you" song. especially when oh so often from bands like this, the title of the song is also the theme, and the main line of the chorus. i listen to bands like Protest the hero, NIN, Deftones, Tool and more. (not to say i don't listen to some simple bands out there) these are bands that much of the time, take at least a little effort to figure out what their songs are actually about. besides being composed of more than just power chords.

lastly, selling a ton of records does not qualify you as a good band. you aren't proving anything by saying that a high number of sales = quality. a lot of the time it just means the band has had quite a bit more publicity, which is usually done by the record lable. i'm sure any of you could think of a band better than 3 doors down that hasn't sold as many records and doesn't get the publicity they deserve.

You guys are fighting over something stupid. 3dd is not the greatest band, they are good and I enjoy their music just as I enjoy many other bands. But does everyone have to compare selling out like this? If you don't like it that's fine, don't listen to it.

    p.s. I'd recomend Twisted Sister christmas ',,'

Because the article appears on the website you sack of shit. This isn't a TDD website. It's unbelievably asinine when these damn teeny boppers bitch and moan when valid criticism is put forward. Arguments like "IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM DON'T TALK" only bathes the subject in a more negative light. If the band is really so damn good respond to the criticism with positive rebuttals, but for God's sake, don't resort to whining about taste, because that's an indication that the band blows and you don't have a clue as to why you like them.
