what's the difference between guitar hero 5 and band hero? won't they both have band layouts (guitar, bass, drums, vocals)?

Most people don't have the time or patience to learn how to properly play music, so this is a nice escape from the mundane.

Weezer and Blink-128? I know this was all announced now or something and it'll take a wait for more tracks to be revealed, but come on I wanna hear some good ol' classic rock on GH. Oh wait they have Queen. Never mind, that's a point up. They just gotta make sure they've don't over load the game with the first album.

Still waiting for GH: GWAR and Sabbath.

Play the game if you want. I won't make fun and say play a real guitar but seriously, you gotta admit this is just too much. That's like 5 GH games in a year or so. Obviously they don't care about the music at all, they're just in it for the money.

I'm not going to say yay or nay on this one. I bought Guitar Hero: Metallica and I absolutley loved it. And yes I play a real guitar and have for a good 6 years. All I am saying is these whole rhythm games need to calm down and take some time instead of releasing the basically same game over and over. Just my opinion though.

indeed. that's exactly what they're doing. i'm not going to keep up with all these stupid expansions that are just a quick cash in. i'll maybe buy the major updates (like rock band 2, guitar hero world tour, etc.) but it's ridiculous to release just one artist per game. it's way past it's prime, and going downhill.

But people play this game because its entertaining, most people that do play rock band dont brag and say dude watch im amazing i could basically play real guitar, they know what the difference is, and maybe they dont have the time to learn a real intrusment, this game just gives some people the satisfaction of making it seem like they r playing their favorite music

Band Hero is just a Guitar Hero with Top 40 shit and is supposedly more kid-friendly. Guitar Hero 5 is pretty much Guitar Hero World Tour 2 (still keeps guitar, bass, drums, and vocals). In a way its not a bad idea necessarily, it keeps all the good song choices for Guitar Hero and keeps all the crappy song choices out. However if you do want those lesser song choices then Band Hero has you covered (wouldn't be surprised if Band Hero gets the Jonas Brothers *shudder*). So while it does oversaturate the market it isn't a bad idea in business practice, they're keeping the core Guitar Hero as pure as they can and using the new games to reach out to different audiences instead of just piling it onto just Guitar Hero (and causing frustration to its fans).

So yeah over all its not as bad as it seems this year:

2 Band (very good bands I might add) specific Guitar Heroes (GH: Metallica and GH: Van Halen)

A re-issue Guitar Hero (Guitar Hero: Smash Hits) with a selection of songs from past Guitar Hero games (which is worth its price since now you can play them in band format and they're all master tracks instead of covers)

The yearly Guitar Hero (Guitar Hero 5)

A Guitar Hero aimed towards kids (Band Hero)

A new venture aimed at the Hip Hop crowd (DJ Hero)

So yeah, in theory its not that bad.

Well said. I hate it when people think that they can actually play instruments because of this game... but i mean, if it helps em get to sleep at night thinking that... then more power to em.

(but on the bright side at least they're decent bands)Do like rock band, just give packs out every week or so, its much better than shoving game after game down our throat.

"Guitar Hero has made music social again and has become one of the most popular ways to experience music,"

Too bad the songs there are never any good. What was up with all the tool? That was bad. And all the new songs are bad. They need better new bands, like more muse. Guitar hero only plays popular songs, not good songs.

I hate when kids bring guitar hero controllers to school. I bring my guitar to school like every day, they want to look cool, but plastic = fail.

IMO, Van halen 1 was their only good album, but a whole game with Van Halen isn't gonna work for me.

Queen is good though, but I know it will be their two worst songs, Wee will ROck you, and Champions.

People will whine saying "OMG NO1 WILL PLAY TEH REEL GEETARZZ NAO!" But frankly, who the f*ck cares? Most people who listen to music don't play an instrument and probably never will. A minority (e.g. this website's members) do play instruments, and more power to us for being that little bit more involved. But GH and RB give non-musically inclined people that same level of satisfaction that we get when we conquer a song on our instrument.

Who are we to say that it's any less valid? They sit there and learn the songs just like we do, they **** up just like we do and they get good just like some of us do.

Yeah, that'll be annoying.

However, I'm a huge Van Halen fan and I'm glad to see something like this come out. I don't think this is really "selling out", but giving something to fans and letting people who missed Van Halen as they were too young etc experience their music.

I'm worried that as they're back with DLR it'll just be Roth songs....I reckon playing "Get Up" on drums would be fun, and I think that the Hagar material needs equal share on this game, he was in Van Halen for 10 years and inducted as a member to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...perhaps even get some VH3 on there? Although that isn't a popular choice.

Queen is good though, but I know it will be their two worst songs, Wee will ROck you, and Champions.

cost and the fact that when you start you can't really play anything.

this offers instant gratification for someone who wants to waste time rather than spending months until they can get to a point where a song sounds somewhat like the real thing.

I got sick of the game by GH:3 that me and my bro's got for Christmas. Then when I saw the competing Rock Band and then GH:WT trying to one-up RB I realized it:

This series isn't just going to hit rock bottom. It's going to drill deeper than that. All they do with each rendition is keep the game, and change the note charts.

Here's and idea:
Make a M-rated guitar hero, so that you don't get the censored crap.
Just blowing off steam but you get my idea.
Its a good idea to expose kids to music, but what PISSES me off is that just cause some 10-year old can play "master of puppets" on expert, they think they know all there is about music, or they think they are badass. Wow kid, you can press a few buttons, whoop-de-damn-doo

I never get bored of Van Halen, ever ever.

But I did read an article that made me annoyed about the game:

"The company has not yet confirmed which members of Van Halen will be avatars in the game, but when asked if the game would feature David Lee Roth or his successor Sammy Hagar, an Activision representative responded, "This is definitely Van Halen, not Van Hagar."

They better have material from all 11 albums. Yes even III.

Err what? How about singing along to a song or playing an instrument along to your favourite band?

Most people don't have the time or patience to learn how to properly play music, so this is a nice escape from the mundane.

That's a horrible way of looking at it. If kids don't want to learn music simply because they don't like it, fine, but guitar hero shouldn't be a substitute for actually learning an instrument just because they don't have patience.

surely better bands to have on a Van Halen video game would be:

KISS: Gene Simmons cut them a demo about 6 months before their debut album

Ozzy Osbourne: Pretty sure they supported Ozzy at some earlier stage in their career

Bon Jovi - Supported them when they were promoting the Balance album.

So there you have it. KISS, Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, probably some Pantera/Damageplan in there for good measure (as one of Eddies guitars is buried with Dimebag).

That sounds a lot better than Blink FuckEightyTwo.

why not?

you do something because you want to. if, on the balance of things, you don't want to do it, why should you?

why are you on here? surely you like music, so surely you must want to learn the instrument. As you can always improve, you should be practising to try and improve rather than spending time on here.

Yes, but as with the other games that are in the making, Activision is trying to appeal to a much larger audience, and they have no interest in preserving good music for what it is by adding horrible artists such as Blink 182 on a game focused around a great band, Van Halen.

Should people that play madden have to actually workout and join a football team? Just lay off and let gamers be gamers. Let musicians be musicians.

The time spent playing Guitar Hero can actually be used to learn actual guitar. The same muscles are being used. Plus, some songs on guitar hero are actually more difficult than they are on real guitar.

Guns don't really transfer the same into controllers.

Instead of spending $100 on each Guitar Hero game,(which I know some people do) they could use that money to buy a nice guitar.
But to each his own.

Here are some ideas, Activision. I demand a 10% cut for them:

Advanced Guitar Hero:
Real Guitars have 6 strings, not 5. In case the gravy sled starts to slow down, throw in an extra button and watch consumers go apeshit.

Guitar Hero: Meshuggah.
Eight. Button. Controller (and a therapeutic squeezee ball). Got an hour? Play Catch 33 in its entirety. Loosen yourself up for a session of I by having a sandwich as you use that squeezee ball.

Drum Hero:
With settings like Meg White (Easy), Numetal (Intermediate), Gene Hoglan (Hard), Thomas Haake (Expert) and Phil Collins (God. Can you sing and drum, you douchebag? That's what I thought).

While I was waiting in line to grab my copy of GH: Metallica when it came out, I mentioned the same thing. I think it would be a great idea to add mroe Iron Maiden to Guitar Hero, or better: Make a Guitar Hero: Iron Maiden. The guy I was standing next to said it was probably because Iron Maiden si very bass heavy and you really need a full band to get the experience of Iron Maiden...

As far as the "Advanced Guitar Hero" and how real guitars have 6 strings, Guitar Hero has only 1 string....and 5 frets on that one string.

Guitar Hero: Meshuggah would be sweet

Lastly, To all you people who complain about Activision cranking out new games when "they could just be making them DLC": I agree with you on a VERY limited basis. Guitar Hero: Smash Hits should DEFINITELY be DLC, but Guitar Hero: MetallicA would've been a HUGE joke if it was played on the same interface as GH:WT. It would've been like using a pink gun in the Marines, or having unicorn's prace around in Call of Duty. Having such a "pretty" (for lack of better word) scene for a thrash metal game would've been aweful, so they improved the interface (and graphics quality) with Guitar Hero: MetallicA to make it more suitable to the game. As far as DJ Hero, again should be a new game, because the interface of any current Guitar Hero would make DJ Hero look like a big joke (hard to say that due to the fact that it's already based around a joke: Hip-hop) Band Hero could jsut be DLC for GH:WT, but I think GH:VH will need it's own interface as did GH:M.
