Alice In Chains Might Do Another Album

Alice In Chains Might Do Another Album

Alice In Chains singer/guitarist William DuVall tells Billboard.com that there is no reason to assume that the band won't record another album following the success of the gold-certified "Black Gives Way To Blue", which came out in September 2009.

"It would be fairly safe to say that you don't come this far and do all this work just to stop for another 15 years," said DuVall. "We are on a path, and just as it was at the beginning, we still don't know where it's going to lead. We're digging what we're doing and we're very happy with the reception we've gotten, and we respect the fact that this was a tall order to write in the first place, and to fill it is an even bigger deal. So I have a hard time imagining we would go through the ride we've been on the last four, five years just to stop.

"We're excited about the future," DuVall added. "Let's just say that."

According to DuVall, Alice In Chains has yet to begin piecing songs together for the next studio album, but "there's plenty of riffs flying around." He added, "That was the case when we first started back up. We would just stockpile these fragments, and then some time later we would sift through the mountain of stuff, and that's what became 'Black Gives Way to Blue'. The same thing has been happening since we've been touring 'Black Gives Way to Blue', so it would be only natural to at some point say, 'Hey, we've got a lot of stuff. Let's sift through and see what we've got this time.'"

That album had decent songs, but the production was horrid...too loud!

it was really loud, but if it wasn't for that it would have been an amazing album

It was an amazing album. If you think it's too loud, then just turn it down. No big deal.

Excited for another album when it happens, though. AIC is the only band from the Grunge movement that has stuck to being Grunge. Unless...you still consider Pearl Jam grunge, but that'd just be silly.

They should definitely do another album! BGWTB was one of the best albums released last year.

They should also let William loose on the next album. I think Jerry and the crew kept him reined in out of respect for Layne and to let the fans acclimated.

One of my all-time favorites, I hope they do keep writing. No disrespect to Layne meant, but I'd love to see them stay together reliably this time round.

Another Alice in Chains album would be cool. Black Gives Way to Blue wasn't actually that bad.

Might get flamed for it but... BGWTB was, IMO, the best AiC. I loved the production, sounded great. I love it loud! Last of My Kind is such a killer song, along w/ Acid Bubble and Lesson Learned.

People on a guitar site claiming it's too loud?!? That was a great album, even better cranked up to the max.

It can never be too loud! I really hope they do make a new Record, AIC are one of the best bands on the planet!

Nick Raskulinecz' production was superb. I have no clue what some of you are fussing about.

The problem with it being too loud is that everything bleeds together. It's very hard to distinguish the bass in several songs, especially in All Secrets Known. If you listen to the old albums you can make out all instrumentation. I would love Jerry to have cool ass riffs like from Dirt and better solos and longer songs like the Tripod album. I have seen them 5 times, all with Duvall and the crowd always go wild!!!

All for another record. As long as they do it like they did w/ "BGWTB" and take their time and do it the right way, it will be great and an extension of the band's legacy.

I don't think they would want it any other way.

I hope they do make another record. I was pretty blown away by BGWTB. Exceeded my expectation greatly and despite what many people say, Duvall is a superd singer!

i think when they say it was too loud, they mean it was overcompressed/limited, much the way pop albums are produced. it crushes the dynamics and is undesirable especially in this genre. I didn't notice it though but haven't really critically listened to the production yet, only the awesome songs

"Black Gives Way to Blue" was an awesome album. I'm definitely up for future albums with the current lineup.

BGWTB was the best album so far recently IMO and i believe that they should continue in making Epik songs and live on and continue the legacy of Alice in Chains

We're talking about dynamic range compression aka loudness war aka death magnetic sound.
Turning it down won't change anything.

Did anyone really think they would just stop after one album? Saying they are likely to record another is just stating the obvious. Unless BGWTB was a horrible album (which it wasn't) they were going to record another. Which I'd listen to and probably really enjoy.

Rokeman wrote on 09/11/2010 - 12:35 am / quote |
I also agree it was a bit too compressed, but musically a great album. I wonder if they'll do another acoustic EP at some point, that'd be exciting! Also, the whole band needs to get more involved in the song making, Jerry wrote just about everything on this one. Not saying he's bad, he's an awesome composer and lyricist, but diversity is the spice of life!

I meant to say what else he's worked on too, lol. He did the Foo Fighters last album, as well as Snakes and Arrows for Rush. IDK what he's done previous to that though, but these three CD's have been some of my favorite releases by each band.

Saw them in March 2010 probably one of the best live bands I've seen in a long time I certainly hope they continue they definitely have a future with DuVall

Duvall just can't replicate the magic of Layne's vocals, no matter how hard he tries. Staley had something that I had never heard before, and haven't since. Too anyone that hasn't heard the older stuff, listen to Dirt and JoF....their best works imho.

well that's the thing. He's not trying to replicate layne's sound. Hes trying to have his own original sound, while also trying to keep the spirit of aic

Am I the only one who found BGWTB to be disappointing? There were a couple good tunes, but as a whole album, I thought it was rather mediocre. The songwriting was pretty bland and the lead guitar work was almost non existant.

guy7bmwm5 wrote on 09/12/2010 - 11:51 pm / quote |
In terms of the cool lead riffs, I agree. The lead guitar work is much better in past albums. I still enjoyed the album, but not as much as their old stuff.

Wrong!!
The loudness of the album is showed on the peaks of the compression and equalization, its not a matter of volume dude. You have to read some more of recording production.
You can see what this guys mean by saying that is too loud putting any song of the album on the WAV format, in high quality in a Audio Editor Software like Soundforge, Nuendo, Audition or Pro Tools. The peaks look all high, and there´s no variation between the sounds. You cant differences the frecuencies of the bass, the guitar, the drum kit, voices, etc. In a well produced record, the peaks shows the differences between everything on the tracks.

You´re so right man, this album is exactly the same as the last solo album from Cantrell. You guys need to listen to that album. Its called "Degration Trip" and its the same as the supposed A.I.C. album. What an deception.
I´ve been a fan of A.I.C. since 1992 and this make me angry a lot. The legacy of the band is being corrupted. Try Nirvana with the singer of Seether (who have the same voice of Kurt but away!)

I agree to this. I have a hard time hearing the bass guitar in several songs and all the instrumentation bleeds together. Past AIC albums are not like this. Supposably the BGWTB viynl isn't like this.
