Angels & Airwaves Talk New Album

An interview from Kerrang! magazine reveals some details about the sophomore album from former Blink-182 member Tom Delonge and his Angels & Airwaves project.

According to the interview, the record will be titled I-Empire. Tom promises a "completely unorthodox launch" for the record. Like the run up to We Don’t Need to Whisper, Delonge continues to make cryptic statements about the band, noting:

"I have a lot of incredible things happening here and music is just one part of it. A couple of years ago I started talking about what I wanted to do with music and the things that I wanted [the band] to lead the charge on and it's all happening. It's taken a lot of money, effort and technology but it's happening.
He also discusses the departure of Ryan Sinn and the replacement, Matt Wachter - formerly of 30 Seconds to Mars:

"He's a really good fit for our band. Ryan had totally difference musical influences from the rest of us. Matt likes hardcore bands like Gorilla Biscuits and punk stuff like the Descendents. So it's a really good fit.
He also addresses his former bandmates and their performing Blink-182 songs:

"I think they should [play them] if they want to. They wrote those songs too and I think the kids will be stoked to hear them. I actually started doing Blink 182 bits awhile ago but they were really mad about it."

the first album was probably the most disappointing ten bucks i've ever spent in my life. +44's album is way better. and the reason why fans are mad about Tom's renditions of blink/box car songs are because they don't sound like blink/box car songs, they've been butchered.

i liked +44 a lot better, it was more my type of music. the songs in Angels and Airwaves were good, but Tom just repeated most of the lines and tunes and riffs so much it became too repetitive. and the stupid intros with like billions of effects in them.

i have always loved tom delonge's work, but nothing will compare to the good old Blink182 days that i listened to growing up. I know some of u might not believe me on this, but when i met Tom (when he was with Mark and Travis) he was a very very nice guy to talk with and he in no way seemed like a showoff or someone that way too good for anybody. He was happy as hell that i had Blink182 written on my hat. Things change in ppls lives and thats what happened with the whole Blink thing. They are obviously still friends to the end, but musically, they just had different future plans for it and thats what led to Angels and Airwaves and +44. but nothing will ever change the fact that they are amazing guys

i saw +44 last night. they played rock show. and they did really, really well. i heard AvA play Down, and it sucks. so of course people will get mad at tom for playing blink if he sucks at it.

I think AVA has the ideas there, they just didn't push them over the edge on a lot of the songs on the album.

As far as +44, they just sound generic to me, except 155, I like that one.

At least Tom tried to do something more musically challenging rather resting on his Blink laurels.

Only half of Smashinig Pumpkins are back together. Some things can't work out. As a side note, I have to say that I'm not looking forward to this new album. I find his singing style just awful. And I heard in a radio interview how he thought his new CD at the time was so amazing and all, and did some comparison to how they hope to be the Led Zeppelin of this generation or something like that. But I suppose he has the right to be proud of his music.

Even though the first album wasn't epic, I thought it was WAYYYY better than (+44)'s album...that one just sounded like an exact copy of blink but without any musical effort. And as for the long intros with tons of effects, I thought that was actually pretty cool. It gave some of the songs a larger than life feel to them. I'm anticipating AVA's sophomore album.

Rage, Smashing Pumpkins (or at least most of them), and talks of even the original G&R getting back together. This albums going to get so hyped up again just like the last one. And hell yea "we dont need to whisper" is a great album in my opinion, but Tom Delonge makes it out to be so much more great than it is.

I got to also say he suffers as a performer these days. He used to be fun to watch. But his hair, what the hell is that about!? The dancing, just what the ****! And some of the names he comes out with for some of the songs is just silly " the star of bethlehem". Just why!?

I think Angels and airwaves make good music though.

AvA is a way better band then +44. There shows are amazing and so is the music. +44 is just ridding blinks success where as tom is trying something new and challenging himself. And, the main reason u only see comments saying +44 is better is because there fan base in stupid 14-20 year old kids, and i say kids because they start to cry if someone dislikes what they think is the "best". Angels fans dont care what other people think about the music, they know that they enjoy it and thats all that matters. Not trash talking something you think is bad. You you enjoy something thats rad, if you dont, you dont have to kick your arms and legs in a tantrum. Just accept the music for what it is.

And in case some kids below or above me start another argument over which band is better. AvA has sold close to 600 000 records (in the U.S.), +44 has only sold somewhere aroun 300 000 (in the U.S). Check wikipedia.

keep in mind that AVA has been out for a year and +44 just put their album out in December... ur right, its all opinion about music, but really, the only thing tom is challenging is my ears... anyone can make a song with tons of effects

People seem to forget Tom left Blink to start a band that was acustomed to HIS specifications. Im sure hes not a total dick to his band mates or else they wouldnt be with him, but he has the final say on everything AVA is. And i deffinitly agree with Greg_2390. Okay might I ask you what kind of music you like? Because I'm a huge Metallica fan, and a huge Black Sabbath fan, and a Blue Cheer fan.
