frontman Billy Corgan
has declared that his band's next album will be "a cruel record
The singer, whose band released their new studio album "Oceania
" in June, has said that he is already working away on the follow-up and has promised himself that he will have "vengeance
" on his doubters.
He told MTV Hive
: "I'm starting to write new songs for the next Pumpkins album. I got a lot going on. I have a title for the next album but I won't tell. It's going to be a cruel record. Vengeance is mine
Corgan also spoke his reluctance to dip heavily into his band's back catalogue, saying that "overly sentimental culture as a new business model is really weak
He said of this: "I'm in my 40s, I should be making new music predominantly. I think that that expectation that's been created is really bad for people
The singer has previously said that he hopes to have the follow-up to "Oceania" out by December 2013, adding: "That's really ambitious, because we're still touring, and I've never been successful writing on tour. I don't even try. So even if we went into the studio in November when we come off of this tour, it's still pretty ambitious to have it out by then
"Oceania" is the seventh of the Smashing Pumpkins career and was released on June 18.
