Christopher Lee Working On Symphonic Metal Album

Christopher Lee Working On Symphonic Metal Album

Actor Christopher Lee, who has appeared in movies such as "Lord Of The Rings," "The Wicker Man," and "Star Wars," has announced he will be releasing a symphonic metal album under the title "Charlemagne." The album is focused on the story of King Charlemagne, the First Holy Roman Emperor. Samples from the album, which will be released on March 15th, 2010, can be found at this location.

The band also issued the following statement about the new album:

"The Carandinis, Lee's maternal ancestors, were given the right to bear the coat of arms of the Holy Roman Empire by the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. Through his Carandini ancestors, Christopher Lee has a direct link to Charlemagne, and has decided for the first time in his life to pay homage to his distinguished ancestor, who is credited as 'The Father of Europe'.

"Charlemagne is a concept album with original words and symphonic metal music. Composer Marco Sabiu, best known for his collaborations with Kylie Minogue, Take That, Pavarotti, Morricone, has created a truly epic canvas by introducing modern metal symphonies, in a style which resembles a movie score.

"Marie-Claire Calvet, a graduate from Bristol University, transports the listener into 'The Dark Ages', with a very powerful storyline and mesmerising lyrics. A full orchestra, heavy metal musicians, choir and special guest vocalists bring the legend of Charlemagne to life."

Thanks for the report to Metalunderground.com.

I'd say that this is pretty heavy on the "symphonic" part and quite sparse in the "metal" department. I'm no expert, but to me, it sounds more like opera than anything else.

I like how everyone here knows him as only Count Dooku and Saruman. The coolest Dracula ever and has been almost 300 movies in his career and you know him from the shitastic LoTR movies.

Also, he didn't write any of this, that's not HIS myspace. He's just doing a part. Marco Sabiu wrote the music. Listening to it, it reminds me of Jason Segal's play in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It's....something else.

Nergal22691 wrote on 01/05/2010 - 04:50 pm / quote |
He is an operatically trained bass so he can obviously sing very well, I hear a lot of symphonic and a little bit of metal in it but yes he has a very good voice even if this is not necessarily the best style of music for him.

1000101 wrote on 01/05/2010 - 04:56 pm / quote |

DZCunuck wrote on 01/05/2010 - 04:58 pm / quote |
It is certainly symphonic, but for the occasional quick guitar lick, i fail to see the metal part. His voice....you can really hear the age in it and it just gives you a mental picture of a guy in bright red tights on a stage. I'll stick to Symphony X thank you very much.

I do like the Rhapsody stuff he did with them much better, but I think that if he re-records the song samples and throws a lot more metal into it, it would be awesome.

Maybe he should ask Luca Turilli to guest on the album? lol
