why would a band sign a contract for 6 albums? anyways great idea to go ahead and try and get off the record label as soon as possible.

Viva la Vida, was so atypical of Coldplay, but it was great nonetheless. I hope they re-invent themselves yet again on this new one.

Dude, Coldplay just released a great album. What are they, Oasis? People are going to get over it! Still, high hopes. The first two singles for the album didn't really represent the album well and I wouldn't have taken them, if I were part of a record company. They should play the album tracks on the radio.

And here's me thinking that intelligence is a virtue, especially when I read comments like yours.
I really enjoyed Violet Hill and Viva La Vida. I'm a bigger fan of their super chilled out stuff, though, so I'd be interested to hear whatever they do put out.

EmoChipsAhoy :
I'm hoping the rest of the songs they came up with are not as bad as 'Death will never conquer.' And I must say to all you Coldplay haters, if you don't like them, then move along to a Radiohead or Metallica topic, leave this one to those who want to say something fruitful [talking to you nothingman34]. I myself loved 'Life in Technicolor' and 'Lovers in Japan' for I think they are the ones that truly capture the new sound of Coldplay.

I'm a fan of the old Coldplay..You know, back from Yellow and In my place...that kind of stuff, then they changed.

2009...Does Chris Martin have enough time to listen to all of Radiohead's songs to gain new ideas?

I've been a huge Coldplay fan for years. Nice to hear another album is on the way.
I don't understand why the Viva La Vida single is such a hit though...I liked 42 and Cemeteries of London best on this album.

HighPotency :
Awesome. Viva la Vida wasn't my favorite but i did enjoy songs such as; Lost!, Strawberry Swing, and Cemeteries of London. If it includes some material from Viva la Vida's time, it should be quite different again. I'm looking forward to hearing what it's like.

I totally agree with EmoChipsAhoy. It annoys the crap out of me when stupid people like that interrupt us intellectual people trying to have a conversation about a great band. Anyway Parachutes is my second fav album of all time. Coldplay simply cannot make a bad album so i cant wait. And to Tele Echoes go back and listen to all their albums in their entirety because they have deep lyrics. Especially Viva La Vida that whole album is very deep. Death and All His Friends was the BEEEEESSSSSTTT!

Right on Ghost plus his falcetto is insane. He has almost perfect control. If anyone doesn't think so listen to Fix You and the walk downs in the chorus. (not to mention like every one of their songs)
p.s.
Whats it Feel Like to Be A Ghost? lol

I don't think you can re-invent yourselves on a greatest hits album. The article makes it sound like its going to be one, it mentions multiple times how if they release one, it ends their contract. But I hope it's a completely new album

POSTED: 08/22/2008 - 04:37 pm / quote |
stumaster18 :
They gelled brilliantly with Brian and recorded much more music than they could fit on one album.

Then why only 10 songs on Viva La Vida? I guess they were planning to do this from the get-go.

Forgive him, he must be a metalhead. Some... okay that's too generous, most people on here do not realize that there is such thing as playing guitar slowly and not using enough notes in a minute-long solo to rival the population of two Chinas.

whitestrat279, you missunderstood the article, it was saying that if they put out a whole other album plus a greatest hits collection that would meet the requirments needed to end the contract with emi, allowing them to be free agents... and the news about a new album makes me very happy, as coldplay happen to be one of my favorite bands. i thought their lattest effort was better than x&y, but still not as good as their first 2 albums. a rush of blood to the head is still my favorite!

i like Coldplay, i'm not their biggest fan or anything. i think this is a bit rushed and i'm suspicious that the popularity is getting to their heads and they want to see how many records they can sell and how much money they can make. i'm not making any assumptions yet, but it just seems that way.

The band, fronted by actress Gwyneth Paltrow's husband Chris Martin,

um... isnt that a bit insulting? Martin is famous by his own right, he doesnt need paltrow's name mentioned everytime when he's being referred to.

Why is Coldplay being compared to Radiohead? Their genre seems to be the same but people...c'mon, what the hell? They sound different. If you play any song from both bands, I'll straight away be able to know which is from Coldplay or Radiohead.

Wolf_At_TheDoor :
I thought Viva La Vida was quite a masterful and ambitious album and the first Coldplay album since Parachutes to really "wow" me. I was happy they went into a new direction because their old laid back sound was starting to sound formulaic. However I read that the first three albums were a sort of "Trilogy" which makes much more sense.

I think a lot of credit is do too the production skills of Brian Eno though... anything the man is related to is gold. Can't wait for the new album now!

POSTED: 08/23/2008 - 04:13 am / quote |
nothingman34 :
I apologize if my harsh comment was offensive to anybody.. I just feel that Coldplay's last 2 albums haven't been up to par with Parachutes and AROBTTH (which are two amazing albums). And i was comparing Coldplay to Radiohead because RH has such a huge influence on Coldplay.

It seems like even the cavemen cited Radiohead as influences when making fire. I think I remember reading an interview with Elvis saying "jailhouse rock" was inspired by creep haha. Clearly im joking, maybe Radiohead and Coldplay have always gotten under my skin. But look out Chris Martin and your little band, the day is dark before the dark dawn becomes day again and the dawn will darken your day....Muse is coming for you all...

here's the best part: there won't be a three-year buildup before the next album, only to let (me) down in disappointment after waiting all that time. now that they're releasing two albums in two years, there will be enough good songs on each album to make up for either one being not as epic as the first two. the more material you can churn out, the better. not ever song will be good but then there's always another album of fresh material waiting on the horizon, which is always a good thing. that's my take. i'm not a big viva fan, but there are good songs on it that weren't (or aren't yet) radio hits and if they have about the same amount of good material on the next album that's fine with me.

I thought Viva La Vida was one of the most refreshing and new sounding albums I've heard in a long time.

42 was definitely my favorite track, followed by Lost.

I'm totally pumped for the new release and they were FUCKING AMAZING live. Chris Martin has so much energy it almost hurts.

I agree alaub1491. They are a great live act! My only complaint is that i wish they had more of their great non-radio songs in their setlists on their recent tours.

Maybe the bands you like shouldn't suck so much ass, they maybe they would take up some space...looks like you'll have to get your Fall Out Boy at Wal*Mart.

Uh..dude...read that guy's name.. "51VH50" I don't think he likes Fall Out Boy...He's a Van Halen guy...so he probably has a bit more musical taste than Fall Out Boy. Anyway...I'm more of a X&Y Fan. I really like that album. Although I do like alot of old-school Coldplay more, I do like Viva La Vida and Violet Hill. My friend bought it and we listened to it. It was really different. He's a HUGE Coldplay fan, though. That's all I gotta say.

I really like coldplay and all of tehir albums... they're an example of the fact that in these days you don't have to be in a metal band to make really good music, sadly there's just a few of examples like that.

That is so insanely true. I don't see how Coldplay possibly sounds like Radiohead. Coldplay is unlike anything I've ever heard. They have their own style, own genre almost. Thom and Chris have EXTREMELY different voices. Ugh, they are so different!

Hmm, unless I've lost my ability to count, this doesn't make an awful lot of sense. If it's a 6-album record deal, don't they need just one more album to fulfil the contract rather than two? Or does Live 2003 not count for some reason?
