Recently, the title of Cradle of Filth's eighth studio album leaked. Named "Thornography", Dani Filth himself comments on the meaning of the new title, as well as its release:
"This title represents mankind's obsession with sin and self. The thorn combines images of that which troubled Christ, the crown of thorns, thus intimating man's seeming desire to hurt God and also, of the protecting thorn and the need to enclose a secret place or the soul from attack. An addiction to self-punishment or something equally poisonous. A mania. Twisted desires. Barbed dreams. A fetish. An obsession with cruelty. Savage nature. Paganism over Christianity. The title can also represent a sexual attraction to religious iconography as in the case of the 'possessed' Lourdon nuns.
" I like the title because to me it invokes images of a darker, sexier pre-Raphaelite scene wherein Sleeping Beauty's castle is won and she is awoken by a poisonous kiss. A darker adult faerytale."
"Thornography" is scheduled for release on September 19 via Roadrunner Records. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Libertina Grim", "Tonight in Flames", "Cemetery and Sundown", "I Am the Thorn", "The Byronic Man" (featuring guest vocals from H.I.M.'s Ville Valo) and "Temptation".
The follow-up to 2004's "Nymphetamine", "Thornography" was recorded at Lincolnshire, England's Chapel studios with producer Rob Caggiano (Bleeding Through, Anthrax).
"I'm not saying it's 'experimental,' but we're definitely testing the limits of what we can do," Cradle frontman Dani Filth recently told Revolver magazine about the new CD. "This is our sixth or seventh record, so we're trying to spice things up to keep the marriage going!"
"We were hungry to write again," Filth added. "Once we finished all our tours [in 2005], we spent the summer just writing. Nobody really throught about where it was going, which is why I think it's really fresh sounding. A lot of the songs are really rhythmical ? thrashy, almost ? but they're all also really catchy."
Thanks for the report to Sputnikmusic.com.

I hope it will be good... I "smell" it being good!
As for Ville on the album, I think it's seriously great... Ville can actually sing very well and that low voice would fit perfectly with CoF's darkening style. ONLY think of the voice of Ville... do not think of anything else related to him (HIM, Bam etc...)
What do you think now then?
As for Dani not being able to sing: wtv! He does what he wants (growling, screaching...) but seriously he can't do that either... I have seen CoF live numerous times over the past long years and Dani hasn't really improved with his voice. It sounds fvckin great on the albums but live he should just give up... it sounds pathetic.

: I really doubt its gonna be as good as their old stuff. They have changed and they will keep on changing towards more mainstream sounds, I expect probably some clean vocals and more "Nynphetamine (fix)" type of songs. That means, still good and masterfull but not like the old COF we love.POSTED: 05/10/2006 - 10:55 am / quote |

: i happen to like "nymphetamine", but "damnation and a day" was shoddy. i liked "cruelty and the beast" and of course "dusk and her embrace" and "midian". ill wait till some songs are released to make a final decision. either way.....\m/POSTED: 05/10/2006 - 03:13 pm / quote |

: Well this does it, the last album was deeply sadening for me and this one sounds like it will be the same. By experimental I think he means more of that teeny gothic un-heavy stuff that they started laying down in Nymphetamine. Right up to Damnation and a Day the world of Cradle was a great place but then it just went down hill, what happened? I dearly miss the old Cradle. And now they have Ville Valo doing some vocals? That just puts me right off. I'm glad the guys are moving in their own musical direction but I have to question their motivation, is it perhaps because there is a market available for this music more there was for than their old fashioned heavy metal extremism? To conclude I'll still have all my old Cradle albums on regular circulation in my CD player but I wont be going anywhere near this new album.POSTED: 05/10/2006 - 03:18 pm / quote |

: People are really funny when it comes to bands. Most of these people who spend their whole time dissing artists just don't get it threw their heads that THEY are making a living out of music, they are living their dreams, and what are you guys doing? Sitting on a computer chair saying how bad these bands are. I will only take your opinion seriously once you form a band that is musically better and more famous than COF, then you can say whatever you want, as for now you are all nobody's.
As for Cof, I seem to like some of their older stuff a bit more but nymphetamine wasnt bad, they really put more structured songs. And as for ville valo, he is a great singer, really original voice.POSTED: 05/11/2006 - 12:06 am / quote |

Agreed that SuperShredder is dumb but come on, Cradle of Filth talented? No way... cathy music and original vocals (which suck live) but no way there is talent in that guitar. POSTED: 05/11/2006 - 08:40 am / quote |

i actually gained some respect from them doing that nymphetamine song cause they did something different, from what we would all be used to, and i think evne though it might not be the heavys song its pretty good, as long as they dont go off and make a whole album like that song POSTED: 05/15/2006 - 04:49 pm / quote |

: Eh.. Ville Valo = Loves Requiem, I love You, Death is in Love with us type of thing
Dani Filth = Dark Blood, Hardcore F***ING.
They did hange the sound in nymphetamine, However, i wouldnt mind hearing how Ville will make them sound. Yet i dont like the new HIM Album at all. it was horrible to see the sound changed. Maybe Ville's voice will make it a bit darker, but i know, the music will be a lot slower with him singing with Dani.POSTED: 05/20/2006 - 12:07 pm / quote |

: i havnt heard a lot of CoF but wat i have i liked. i have the Roadrunner united album and the song dawning of the golden age is 1 of my favourtes. i say that they r freaks but then again so m i. they play music in a way that make them happy nd they have a good fan base so to all you conformists that luv your greenday and hip hop shit u can suc it.
