Creed Get 'Sexy' On Hard-Rocking Reunion Album

Creed know exactly who they are. Back together after six years apart and a few weeks into a reunion tour that singer Scott Stapp said has been going way better than he expected, the Florida band is preparing to come all the way back with an album he promises delivers exactly what the fans want.

Produced by Howard Benson (Daughtry, Hoobastank), Full Circle was recorded before this summer's tour, and Stapp said its 15 songs make for the band's most accomplished effort to date.

"I think we've gone in many different directions, sonically and musically. It's at a higher level, because everyone's grown as players and in their art," Stapp said of the years since their 2004 split, during which he released a solo album and the other three members released two albums as Alter Bridge with another vocalist. "We're comfortable with our own identity, confident in what we play."

One of the reasons he's so confident about the new songs is because before entering the studio, the band — which includes guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott "Flip" Phillips — threw out their old rule about not tracking any songs that they couldn't play exactly the same way live. "We know we can hire a guy to play piano or another electric guitar, and while I think we have this massively produced record with all these sounds on it, it's also a raw, edgy, guitar-driven rock album with some sex appeal," he said.

Sexy? Yeah, in fact, Stapp bragged, "really sexy."

With a scope he said covers the epic journey of life, with a healthy dose of autobiographical lyrics that sum up the past few rocky years, Stapp described the songs on the new album as some of the heaviest Creed have ever recorded. "But it also has a groove," he added. "A sexiness to it. If you're driving down the street and you've got your arm on the steering wheel, no matter what song is on, you can move your head to it. I think what you can hear is the confidence in the band and what we're doing together."

Then again, Stapp said songs like "Full Circle," "Away In Silence," "Overcome" and "On My Sleeve" are every bit the aggressive, grungy rock that fans have come to expect from the 35 million-selling group.

"They really drive home the fact that we're a rock band and that's at the core of what we are," he said of the group, which suffered some slings and arrows from critics the first time around for a sound some considered derivative of other grunge acts. "It's time for us to say, 'Here we are. This is who we are.' No shame, no embarrassment and no worry about what anyone else thinks. It's not from a pretentious standpoint. If you like it, cool. If not, as the Australians say, 'Good on ya.'"

overcome is prolly the best song ive herd from creed since the stuff from my own prison....theyve gotten closer to the hard rock sound and not the crappy pop sound they had on weathered....so yea...should be a kool album...hopefully...and yes...im waiting on more Alter Bridge as well

Creed is far from "pop." If you don't like the Weathered album, you can get the hell out.

the first single sounds amazing. very heavy groove on this album. they're doind more solos, that's always good. i've always loved Creed, but this just makes it even better. honestly one of the best songs they've ever done.

I like the Zeppelin-y riff in the intro, but that's bout it. If Stapp drops his Vedder vocal mask, it might be a bit credible [creed-ible?].

Too soft? Give me a break buddy. Overcome is as heavy as any alter bridge song. Plus Stapp doesn't have that schrill of Myles Kennedy. Stapp's fits perfectly. In my opinion if this is what we can expect to hear from creed on full circle and on future records I see no point in Alter Bridge.

Yea, sure, except the point that Alter Bridge is far better than Creed. Miles is not only a better singer and fits with the music better, but he is not a terrible, egotistical, moronic frontman like Scott Stapp.

Well if you haven't noticed that Stapp isn't the same guy he was back in 2004 then your eyes are closed and your brain isn't functioning. Anyone can easily tell that in recent interviews with Scott how humble he is and how much less he has to say and ONLY saying what NEEDS to be said. He's different and get over the Eddie Vedder issue, when was that brought to our attention...way back in 1999? Get over yourselves. Give the guy a chance.

saw them "comeback" on vh1 and they sounded like complete shit (no surprise). scott stapp has never done anything worth talking about and mark tremonti is the single most overrated guitarist in the world. creed should just join forces with other awful bands like seether or three days grace so that people who listen to actual music wouldn't have to be annoyed by so many shitty bands, just one.

I've always preferred Alter Bridge to creed, but I've always enjoyed creed. I'm glad to see that Scott letthe band really wail this song out. Really nice track, it's the perfect mix of creed and alter bridge to me.

they sound less Creed and more just generic hard rock now. Older stuff had a specific sound sometimes. I hope the rest of the album isn't like Overcome.

Here it is, Creed is back and better than ever, I didn't think Scott had anything left, but Overcome is some really good work...I'm excited they didn't disappoint. As far as everybody taking sides, no need to just enjoy the music. All 3 Creed albums kicked ass, that's y they sold over 30 million albums. AB will be back, but don't dog Creed out...this was much needed!
