Dark Side Of Korn

Blabbermouth reports, Korn fan site conducted a brief interview with Korn frontman Jonathan Davis Tuesday night (April 26). A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:

Fan Site: How does being a parent of now two kids affect the way you do what you do? Are there any limits or barriers you set for yourself now that you obviously have a lot on your hands?

Jonathan Davis: "Being a parent doesnt effect anything I do music-wise. Music is what I am. If I didn't have it I would die. So my babies are what brings me back from all the shit i sing about. They make me happy."

Fan Site: Sorry, of course you do not have to answer this and i respect your wishes. How does it feel now that Brian [Welch, a.k.a. Head] has left? What's the atmosphere in the band?

Jonathan Davis: "It really sucks that a friend of 13 years decides to cut all ties with his band. I haven't talked to him since he left."

Fan Site: You miss him?

Jonathan Davis: "Every time I try to talk, he shoves Jesus down my throat. I miss Head, I don't miss this new guy. And the band feels much better without him. Sounds fucked up but he really wasn't there a lot... drugs, depression? and the band tried to help, but he would just yell at us to leave him alone. I still love and miss him."

Fan Site: "Take A Look In The Mirror" was a pretty in-your-face and straight-up album to most fans. A lot of people felt that there wasn't enough experimentation on it. Some felt that the grandeur and new musical direction of "Untouchables" was ultimately shoved out the window. People clearly want something different. So my question is: What can you tell us about the inspiration, and direction of the seventh album?

Jonathan Davis: "The direction of this album is purely experimental from working with pop producers. Everything is fresh and new. Taking things to a different place, sound and lyrics."

Fan Site: Side question, how many songs will be on it, if you can tell us?

Jonathan Davis: "15 [or] 16, maybe. (I) can't tell yet. We demoed 25. I feel this album is gonna be our 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. Not to compare us with [Pink] Floyd, they kick our ass. . . But how that album was so experimental. They just lost Syd Barrett, he went crazy. There is a lot in common, it's a trip."

I did rather prefer Untouchables to their older stuff, though issues was my joint favourite... Good to hear they're doing more like that. Though I'm sure most fans prefered their older work, especially all my friends. How bizzare. I don't see how people can prefer Untouchables to their earlier stuff (but then again, I'm not other people). Aside from the sublime opener Here To Stay and maybe Thoughtless, I just think that album is way too pretentious, also it was recorded with more sound quality than previous albums. This means most of the songs have a kind of Goth-metal resonance to them which I just don't go for really.
Despite what people say about experimentation, I think they actually became a lot more formulaic on Untouchables. No bagpipes, no short tracks inbetween others, very little lyrical variation and none of the discordant riffs of yesteryear, I just don't feel anything from that album. Oh, and Wake Up Hate is the worst song ever. Ever.

Anyway rant over, I still hope their new stuff is a bit more like their early work, TALITM was a step in the right direction at least.

Syd Barrett was only part of the band for the first album. Dark Side was like...5th, 6th? They'd had multiple years. He hadn't just left.

Jon was just trying to be cool by dropping the name "Dark Side of the Moon" cause it's such a classic. I wish people wouldn't use stuff like that as a crutch. Make an album as good boys, don't drop a name for hopes it'll make your record look a little bit cooler.

Roger Waters started to take over most of the music writting after pink floyds second cd, then gilmour came into play lead guitar doing better than Syd did. But Pink Floyd had two absolutly amazing albums, Dark Side of the Moon, and The Wall. Both sold more albums than anything else. Dark side of the Moon more, but no set proof of that.

I'll look forward to see how things changed with KoRn, the people shall decide if it's their huge album. But Nu Metal has been going downhill, so I doubt it will be their best.

first of all, there are a few variations that jd said but all are close to the same, jd went to a party, saw a gay porno or saw one being filmed or saw two gay guys fornicating, either way one guy sh*t into the other guys mouth and a piece of KoRn got stuck between the guys teeth, so jd wrote it down with a black pencil/crayon/marker ( varies even from his stories ) and wrote it down like a three year old would with a k instead of a c and with a capital backwards R

Korn didnt sold out thats what I like. They chat with the fans every week and as you see this interview came out of nowhere from a fan.
