Dashboard Confessional To Release New Album This Fall

This Chris Carrabba-led band's latest album won't be out until fall via Interscope, but the artist believes "it has a vibrance that is suited for summertime." Part of the reason? Sympathetic production by Adam Schlesinger of power-pop mavens Fountains Of Wayne.

"Some producers do an amazing job of inventing new techniques. But Adam understands the palette of craftsmanship. He's really good," says Carrabba, who's particularly enthused by tracks like "If This Is Chemical" and "No News Is Bad News."

"It's a nice marriage of where I've come from and where I've gotten to. For me, it's the track that ties all the ends together," he says of the latter.

Carrabba enlisted Schlesinger because the material, "to be frank, it's a bit poppy. But not in a 'pop' popular music way - in the grand tradition of a power-pop writing style, which Adam is spectacular at. This is as close as I get to it. I'm a bit of an angular writer and I felt myself being pulled in this new direction. He's a master of that end of the scope."

Carrabba says he wrote around 25 songs for the project, but instead of spending a lot of time arranging them, he emailed his Dashboard bandmates the demos so they could jointly discuss them.

"Months went by, and we went on another tour," he recalls. "So by the time we finally played the songs, we had this immense fire. It was like being in a garage band. It helped we were literally in a garage. Adam came in, and the benefit of only having played the songs for three days was, we were really pliable. We never lost the spark of the younger nature of the songs. They never had a chance to be overcooked. He understood that was important to us."

The Shade Of Poison Trees took me a couple listens to get into, but once I was in I was hooked. Great stuff.

Hopefully the new material is of the same caliber.

i'm not bashing chris carrabba or dashboard, but how come none of the other guys in the band are ever interviewed. as a casual dashboard listener, i'm just curious.

i have to admit, i do bash emo bands sometimes, but i respect real talent and songwriting and thats what this band is made of. them and jimmy eat world. it also doesnt hurt that i enjoy listening to them as well.

This is pretty much truth for it, much like bands such as The Rocket Summer too.

I'm excited for this, and it's out so quickly after The Shade Of Poison Trees too. Hopefully it should be good.

I completely agree. Those are the only two emo bands (as much as J.E.W hate being called emo) I have heard who have any real talent. Both of them are comprised of true artists.

i'm sorry, how do these guys fall under the category of emo? 'cause he blames himself a lot for stuff in songs? that doesn't make any sense. if any band that did that was to be considered emo, one could go as far as to put three days grace or alkaline trio or other bands in that genre. maybe it's just because i'm biased against labeling wrong, but i'm confused as to what is considered emo. i thought it was based on musical style. meh, whatever...

anyhoo, can't wait for the new album. i like how these guys spew out albums fairly quickly. i mean, i guess it's easier when one guy writes all the songs, but it's still cool.

bands like "the promise ring" and "rites of spring" are real emo. dashboard is acoustic indie

I used to love Dashboard, The places you have come to fear the most, and swiss army romance were amazing. Not a bad song on the cd's. The new ones however, he's pumping them out so quickly. I really don't feel like he's putting a whole lot of effort into them and a whole lot of himself either. I don't know.
