Disturbed's new single, "Inside The Fire" (Windows Media, Quicktime), made a huge impact at rock radio last month, with the song officially added to the playlists of more than 60 stations. The track is taken from "Indestructible", and singer David Draiman told The Pulse of Radio it's one of the darkest songs he's ever written. "It is based on a true story of my own where, when I was about 16 or so, I had a girlfriend of mine commit suicide," he said. "It was an unbelievably horrific and painful experience, and it was cathartic to make the song, and it really took me having a certain mindset to do it, and I had to wait 'til I was ready."
The Chicago-based band will begin a spring U.S. tour on April 26 in Little Rock, Arkansas, with dates stretching into late May. Following its spring solo run and European dates in June, Disturbed will co-headline the Rockstar Mayhem Energy Tour with Slipknot in July and August.
Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

Well I'm not the guy you were talking to...but...its just like he said..Basic. Not to say he's bad. I've been playing for 4 years and only just in the last few months reached his skill level. But he's still basic compared to some of the gods(Gilbert, Vai, Vaughn, Malmsteen,Satriani..etc.) He is getting better...I kinda stopped listening to them around Believe 'cause it was just too simplistic..and not even all that heavy...but they are getting heavier and better...so I think I'll check out 10,000 and prob buy this one and 10,000.POSTED: 04/18/2008 - 02:59 pm / quote |

Pretty stoked for the new cd. Hopefully it's as good as 10,000 Fists. I liked the more metal element of that as opposed to the more percussive one that was prevalent in their older stuff. More choppy.POSTED: 04/18/2008 - 03:03 pm / quote |

Oh yes. Because Malmsteen, Laiho, and Petrucci are all gods because they "sweep"...You're an idiot and you should stop typing. A solo encompasses a melody played atop another melody, and the two melodies together should flow musically and effectively, we don't have to sweep, shred,or tremolo pick to produce that.
1. His effects, even if it's a bit more basic, still rock. And the sheer simplicity of his melody on top of the song is very musical and very awesome.
2. Once again, we don't all have to sweep, shred, and tremolo pick to solo. You should listen to his solo on "Overburdened". That just PROVES he could shred something terrible if he wanted to.
Maybe he will one day and shut posers like YOU up.POSTED: 04/18/2008 - 04:52 pm / quote |

: I'm not the biggest Disturbed fan (actually I don't consider myself a Disturbed fan). The Sickness was a good album, a few songs on it were great (i.e. Down With the Sickness, Voices, and Stupify), and Down With the Sickness is actually one of my favorite metal songs, but I have not been able to get into their albums after The Sickness at all. You say Donegan has started soloing and that's good because that's been one of my major complaints over the years.
I don't like their whole style of Anime-metal though. Dio barely got away with DnD-metal, but Disturbed is a little too cheesy for me.
This new album sounds like it should be good though.POSTED: 04/18/2008 - 05:05 pm / quote |

What, because he doesn't throw in a typical prog rock or classic rock solo? Just because someone doesn't solo doesn't mean they can't, the solo in Stricken is great, but Disturbed is a band that doesn't suit solo's for the majority of their songs. It's the same with bands like Tool, Muse and Linkin Park - there just isn't any use for a solo in a bucketload of songs they compose.POSTED: 04/18/2008 - 07:33 pm / quote |

Malmsteen was just the first "Shred God" that popped into my head. Donegan has a very unique sound, and while I don't pretend that he is a virtuoso, I (unlike a lot of guitarists who think that if a person plays metal and can't/doesn't sweep, then they suck) recognize good, kick ass music when I hear it.

I like a few Disturbed songs, despite the verbal lashing they get from a lot of "true" metal fans. Not on the same league as some of my fav's eg Behemoth, Nile etc. But it is a different type of music and so should be listened to from different perspective.POSTED: 04/18/2008 - 10:30 pm / quote |

Right on, dude. Seriously, people need to start understanding what music is all about. It's not just playing what's fast and technical all the time. Sometimes slower and simpler is better. Take it from someone who is in an actual high school band. I've been around the block once or twice and I've played all different styles of music. What Dan is doing is phenomenal, even if his skill isn't quite up to par with boring-ass "musicians" like Satriani and Malmsteem.

I wonder what Alexi would think of being placed next to Petrucci then being criticized for his criticism on Dream Theater.
Anyway, the point is Donegan's solos are song serving and therefore I like them but so are Alexi's and yes their complexity satisfies my particular taste more. You don't need to put down my guitar hero just to prove a pointless and angry side of a debate that will never end.

This on the other hand I full on agree with.
Unfortunately, I'm actually getting bored with Disturbed's sound. I loved 10,000 Fists and especially Dan's "Strickened" solo, but it just seems like Dave is doing the same vocal melody in the chorus over and over... which is something I thought of all the albums after my initial love of them but this time I just skipped the loving feeling and immediately thought about repetitiveness.POSTED: 04/20/2008 - 01:28 am / quote |

: I like Disturbed, but they are the most formulaic band in the universe.
Let me outline a Disturbed album:
1. Title - Something that sounds tough and dark and mysterious. Usually one word that's very deep and powerful...sounding.
2. Songs - About 10 songs that are METULL, with lots of palm muted bland choruses and verses. Usually with a very tight solo that seems much too excellent for the song it's in. Then 2 other songs on the album that are melodic and show the gentle side of Disturbed. Almost void of bass guitar.
3. Names - Songs should be 1-2 toughcoolbadass words, similar to the album titles. Something sensitive but prim-evil at the same time. Like Pariah or Kebab.

: You can't mention Joe Satriani and Dan Donegan in the same sentence. They are 2 completely different guitarists. Sure, Joe shits on him in the technical department but that's not what it's about with Disturbed. Dan's riffs are awesome and his playing is perfect for the music. A Satriani style solo in Disturbed's music would sounf awful.
Oh, and I'm a huge Satriani fan.POSTED: 04/21/2008 - 06:19 am / quote |

Let me outline a Disturbed album:
1. Title - Something that sounds tough and dark and mysterious. Usually one word that's very deep and powerful...sounding.
2. Songs - About 10 songs that are METULL, with lots of palm muted bland choruses and verses. Usually with a very tight solo that seems much too excellent for the song it's in. Then 2 other songs on the album that are melodic and show the gentle side of Disturbed. Almost void of bass guitar.

Alright, I want to hit you for being such an idiot. Do you understand music? you must not.
"with lots of palm muted bland choruses and verses. Usually with a very tight solo that seems much too excellent for the song it's in. Then 2 other songs on the album that are melodic and show the gentle side of Disturbed. Almost void of bass guitar."
...."Almost void of bass guitar"
I don't know if that part just pisses me off because I'm a bassist..but it sounds like I'm just listening to another idiotic "omg, metal man! guitar shredding! yay" Bass is a very moldic and emotional instrument. The bassline has been used in virtually every composition known to mankind. Without it there would be no depth in the music.
I could sit here for hours, but im not wasting my time. So I'm saying what I wanted to say before I read this idiots post. The sickness was a good album. immature at times. Believe broke them into the melodic atmosphere that 10,000 fists would thrive on. Indestructible will be an increased sound of melody, but with a little more balls then 10,000 fists and believe. So basically wait he said about going back to the "concept" of the sickness.POSTED: 04/22/2008 - 03:48 am / quote |

I totally agree. Dan Donegan himself said this was going to be "more ballsier" then the other albums.
Disturbed have a very unique sound. Who cares if people think that Donegan's solos aren't the same as Dream Theater's or Children of Bodom's? It's still f*cking awesome. Indestructible will be very hard to beat The Sickness, but anything is possible.POSTED: 04/23/2008 - 11:06 pm / quote |

It's the same with bands like Tool, Muse and Linkin Park - there just isn't any use for a solo in a bucketload of songs they compose.
Please don't tell me you put Tool and Linkin park in the same drawer there.... |
