Dream Theater: New Album Title, Track Listing

Progressive metal veterans Dream Theater have set "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" as the title of their tenth studio album, due on June 23 via Roadrunner Records. In addition to the standard-version CD, the effort will also be available on vinyl LP, as well as a three-disc, special-edition CD that will include the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs, the titles of which will be revealed at a later date.

Six weeks prior to the June 23 street date, Roadrunner will release one cover song per week through digital retailers.

Dream Theater commenced work on "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" — the band's second for Roadrunner, following up 2007's "Systematic Chaos" — in October of last year.

Drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci are once again at the helm as producers, while Paul Northfield mixed the record.

A video for the first single, "A Rite Of Passage", will be shot in late March.

Mike Portnoy played a one-minute "teaser" for the band's forthcoming album on the February 27, 2009 edition of Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM. The clip is available for streaming here.

Portnoy previously stated about the upcoming CD, "Imagine a Dream Theater album with 'A Change Of Seasons', 'Octavarium', 'Learning To Live', 'Pull Me Under' and 'The Glass Prison'... all on one album... Could You Handle It?? Excited? I sure am!!!!"

The band will embark on a world tour in support of the album beginning in Europe throughout June which will be followed by the second edition of the band’s "Progressive Nation" tour featuring Zappa Plays Zappa, Pain Of Salvation and Beardfish throughout North America in July/August.

Mike Portnoy will guest on "Eddie Trunk Live" on Sirius (channel 19) / XM Radio (channel 53) on Monday, March 16. The program airs from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. EST.

Dream Theater's "Chaos In Motion 2007/2008" double DVD set sold just under 9,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 2 on the Top Music Videos chart.

I agree. That was the first thing I thought when I saw it. I don't know, I haven't listened to much DT at all recently, since I've been in a permanently crap mood for several months, but I'm going to pick this one up. I hope it's different then systematic chaos.

Systematic chaos featured very cool riffs, but that was the only good thing.

The epic parts and melodies, were e bit too "Simple" and I didn't feel that DT epicness, but ye first record with new Record label, is always bound to be a bit of a warming up.

I think they made systematic chaos, since they are on a more metal label now. I think they wanted to "Show" or try to fit in in the label.

I think now they did that, that they will bring out pure DT back, with sick melodies, long compositions, changes, crazy instrumental breaks and all that good ol DT stuff that makes you smile

Yep "The Best of Times" sounds reeeeally heavy... honestly stating that things are going to be heavy is quite possibly the stupidest thing you can do about music. It says nothing for the quality of the songs.

lol, trying to work my superior English skills against me won't work. As I suggested and by implication, anything that isn't based on a common proverb is good. Heck, 'The Blackening' is a fine album name, supported by solid cover art. Megadeth's cheesy album titles and cover art is well in line with their music and themes.

I dont think that this is generic at all. In fact, i think it is in perfect fit with how Dream Theater is a constantly moving band. Where nothing is repeated. The only reason people equate teh album artwork with awake's is that it is a spacial environment. other than that it is completely different.

The name is also fitting in with what dream theater has done in the past. I feel that Mike Portnoy had a major hand in naming this album because of his past. More or less, i expect this album to be more personal with all the members of the band.

Thats cause dream theater is awesome, and has the best fans. I think its great that its 6 tracks. Most of their albums are around 75-80 minutes long total, so on average each track will be around 13 minutes. Friggen sweet. June, hurry up already!

Haven't been that excited for a release in a while. In fact, I've rarely been anticipating an album that much, ever. Dream Theater is my favourite band along with Opeth, though, so it may be part of the explanation.
