Meanwhile, former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy
says he's given up on speaking about the band - despite having to speak about the band to say so. In an interview with Modern Drummer
(via Classic Rock
), Portnoy said the band's loyal fan base often react strongly to his comments:
"I feel bad that I can't talk openly about Dream Theater any more without being torn to shreds,"
he said. "I wish I could without there being a backlash but it's become the reality that I've accepts. I feel it's a no-win situation."
In the same interview, Portnoy describes how the main reason he left the band was a change in his character: "When I heard the new material it simply wasn't my cup of tea. It's great but I couldn't relate to it any more. People change, where it be as a listener or as an artist."
