Apple Corp Ltd. and EMI Music revealed in a joint statement that the entire catalog of music from The Beatles will be digitally remastered for the first time and is set to be released on September 9, 2009, the same day that The Beatles: Rock Band is scheduled to hit store shelves. Additionally, two new Beatles boxed CD sets will be released on the same day.
"
The albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilising state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings," the statement reads. "
The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release."
All 12 Beatles albums will be released in stereo sound along with the "Magical Mystery Tour" soundtrack. Additionally, the "Past Masters Vol. 1" and "Past Masters Vol. 2" discs will be combined into one CD. All of these titles will be coupled with a collection of documentaries and will be released as a boxed set.
The other boxed set, titled "The Beatles in Mono," will include all of The Beatles’ records that were recorded in mono as well as two more discs of mono masters similar to those featured in the "Past Masters" collection.
Regarding digital distribution of The Beatles’ music through online stores like iTunes, the statement reads, "Discussions regarding the digital distribution of the catalogue will continue. There is no further information available at this time."
