Fall Out Boy Talks New Album Writing

In a new interview, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy provided some updates on the band's progress towards their next album:

"Patrick’s obviously been writing all the music, and the words haven’t even really come in yet. I’ll go over to Patrick’s house and he’ll kind of just sit there and play songs, and I’ll be like, ‘Ah, that one’s awesome!’"

As for the tone of the record, given Wentz status as a expectant father and married man?

"I think that it’s kind of blown out of control. That people expect us to have a happy fairy tale record or something. We weren’t in the right headspace to write songs before," he adds. "We tried to before we went to Chile, and it makes a lot more sense now. We became good friends again, which is good."

In related news, another reader pointed Punknews.org to this article which indicates that Wentz has collaborated on a new track with rapper T.I. Wentz promises a sound like "something from 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'.

If Mr Wentz could get over the whole "Look Im a Celebrity...LOOOOOVE ME" thing, and get over his ego,I may have more respect for him,oo and learn to play bass properly, not mindless up and down over 17th frrt playing roots...grumble, lol, he occasionally writes a decent lyric though,and the rest of the band seem pretty cool kind of guys, hell they must be to put up with Wentz,lol, but yeah,they are wahahey to overexposed in the press and stuff, which will eventually backfire on them, catchy songs though, and if they help younger kids get into "real" music, as Blink 182 did in their heyday, then thats all good

when someone mentions Fall Out Boy...everyone goes on about Pete Wentz! why not talk about Patrick Stump as he is amazing singer and Joe is a good guitarist and andy a great drummer also! Fall Out Boy are pretty good, if you take the time to listen to them

dude, seeing as how patrick writes the music by himself, that's pretty intense. he's gotta worry about how both guitars, drums and bass sound because they are all HIS creations. i personally wouldn't have wentz on bass because i couldn't stand the fact that he probably doesn't bring much to the table in bass playing. patrick just writes him a part to shut him up probably haha.

You know, I almost feel sorry for Patrick. He carries the entire band. Pete Wentz just kind of stands there and looks pretty while doing NOTHING. "Patrick's obviously been writing all the music..." no, it shouldn't be obvious. Get off your lazy ass and do something to actually help the development of the band besides going to photoshoots. The way he said that almost made me sick, I swear. Don't get on my case because he writes lyrics. He could at least contribute to the music. Same with the other members of the band. Everyone should play a part in what they play.

rap music blatently steals beats from other artists, and its not like they even change it a little bit, they use the whole damn riff. plus it takes no talent to create music that is made using premade synthesized beats, looping a million times, and spittin some words on it about doing your ho or whatever.....

i never really listened to fall out boy so i cant say much about their music, but i think i have had enough of pete wentz. im not flaming or anything but pete wentz is worth nothing in fall out boy, all he does is say the same crap in interviews and says 'we are working really hard on a new album' while all he is doing is pissing people off by being interviewed by 9100 people every day saying the same thing.... sorry for my wall of text but ya i think fall out boy should let pete wentz go then i may give them a listen.....

They need to quit lying. Last time Pete supposedly wrote all the songs, this time Patrick is supposedly going to write all the songs. I listened to Infinity On High and I liked it a lot but it's painfully obvious that it's written by record company professionals. Do you seriously believe 2 guys that can barely play their instruments wrote those songs full of key changes, good melodies, and orchestra arrangements? Don't patronize me Pete.

Actually wentz generally writes the lyrics and patrick writes the guitar parts, and cosidering some of the guitar parts and singing parts that Pat has to play at the same time he's actually pretty talented, but i will admit that on IOH that they probably just wrote the base and the producers came in and filled it out but hell thats what happens these days... oh yeah and go listen to sgt peppers, Martin wrote and arranged a good deal of that album and wasnt a beatle and i dont hear you calling them terrible musicians or anything, and before you say it im not comparing Fob to the beatles :p

I have a few things to say. First off I don't understand why FOB haters are so f***** retarded. You complain about the fob articles yet you still read it, UG don't post articles just for you it's for everyone. And I understand if people hate their music, although you can't really compare it to others because every band has their own thing going. I'll be honest, I never liked FOB really until a few years ago when some chick I was doing in the backseat of my civic (haha, just thought you should know ; got me into them. They pretty quickly went to be one of my favorite bands. I don't think Patrick is by ANY means a fantastic guitarist, but I don't see any of you guys writing songs that are winning awards or selling out 20,000 seater arena's.Last time they came to Philadelphia, they almost sold out the Wachovia Center. Being the fact that I'm mainly a drummer, I'll admit, it pains me to see such a horrible excuse for a musician play the drums and make that much money meanwhile guys like Virgil Donati aren't doing NEARLY that well, but we really can't hate these dudes for what they are. I mean honestly, how many good bands get to be huge anymore? How many bands do you know that are better than ANYTHING on the radio, ad go absolutely nowhere? I'll just say this. Some bands were MEANT to be together, and they were one of them. It does suck that 4 people take the credit and profit of one person's work. I know Pete writes some of the lyrics, but Patrick has done it too. He doesn't need any of them.
