Fall Out Boy's Album Pushed Back

Through a series of posts on the band’s official website on Monday, October 13, Fall Out Boy have announced that their new album, "Folie A Deux", will be pushed back from its November 4 release date to December 16.

The band had this to say, "6 months ago we thought it would be a fun idea to release our album on Election Day but this is not the election to be cute. This is the most important election of our time and, as much as the record is a social commentary and the term "folie a deux" is relevant to the candidates, we felt as though rather than making a commentary we were only riding the wave of the election. This seemed less and less like what we intended to do and more of a gimmick."

They add, "Folie a Deux will be released on December 16. While that late in the year may be a surprise to some, we felt that it was important to get our record out this year for our fans. Though this is not the date we had originally planned nor the optimal date according some demographic marketing analysis, we put our eight feet down told our label it must come out this year. We're already bummed enough that Chinese Democracy is gonna beat us to release. Thank you for all your comments today, they mean a lot to us."

The band revealed in their posting that they will not only be honoring all existing pre-orders for the album, they’ll also be playing a string of small shows in the United States during the month of November. The band says, "This will not be a tour and will for the most part not be in areas we have played in a while. These shows will take place in extremely small clubs that we played in prior to “Take this to Your Grave”. Tickets will be very affordable and only available on day of."

The first two singles from the album, "I Don’t Care" and "Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On A Bad Bet" are currently available for purchase on iTunes.

I'm sure there is an underlying reason behind the albums delay besides the election thing. When fallout boy says they're not trying to be cute you know thats a lie. Do you see the amount of eye liner that guy wears? He lives for the attention of 14 year old girls. I'm not bashing the band either by the way, so don't automatically assume I'm just hating on the music. I just don't believe that their delaying the album has to do with the election.

Don't be upset. At least you're not close minded. I can't listen to this band, but I'm not going to lie, I wish I would be more open minded. I just find most of the fans of this band to be so annoying, that it deters me from hearing their music. The only songs I've heard I haven't liked though. So who knows.

They're just going for number 1 because they know that most of their fans (not ALL of them) are too young to afford an album and now their parents will buy it for them as a Christmas gift. Pretty good strategy imo, at least they know what their main fanbase is.

At least your not bashing the band however, and you have good reasons why you don't like the band. Not everyone's going to like them this is true, I personally love them but that's just me. It's nice to see someone on here with a little sense and is not just going "OMG FALL OUT BOY IS TEH EMOZZZ!11!111!!", maybe they are just not for you. Don't feel bad about not being open minded, at least your not bashing.

On another note, I am rather sad about the delay, I was really looking forward to this release. Oh well at least it's coming out this year.

I saw these guys, on TV, playing at some fashion event. It was ridiculous...there were douche bag models walking around in front of them. The guys in the band looked like they would rather have been anywhere but there at the time. I don't know how bands managment get them into these types of things, but there's no way in the world my would do something like that. BTW, there performance was uninspired (I don't blame them), but it wasn't terrible.

me too haha. i like the small show idea though, it shows they still care about their fans. they're starting to be more tolerable after cork tree. i like the sound of the guitars on i don't car,, they have a bluesy feel to me.

Megadeth and Fall Out Boy are two completely different bands. You can't compare them at all.

It's hard to say if they're finished with the recording process, or whatever the reason may be for pushing the album back. But why a month? I mean, if you don't want to play off the election hype, bump it a week or two maybe? They know what works and they know how to make a hit pop song, it's definitely an acquired skill whether you like it or not

i bet the real reason they moved it to the 16th is because they thought if they had the date closer to christmas they could milk more sales out of people rather than on a day in which most people are going to be far more concerned about the politics of their country

the only thing i can say here is that they seriously are looing for the christmas market,

like its a week or so before christmas day that its been released,

fans will buy it regardless but the amount of people who will buy it as stocking fillers will be huge cause there will be posters everywhere with "brand new album" "americas biggest....blah",

dont get me wrong i actually like this band i listen to alot of different stuff so im pretty open minded to any band,

if they felt it wrong to release it on the day of the vote why not just push it back a week????

If they didnt want to release it on election day then why not push it back 1 week, that way it would not be conflicting with it,

my understanding on it is that they are worried first day sales will be dampened by the number of people out voting and therefore will not buy the album on the first day, which in effect will have a knock on effect for them to climb the charts to get a high placing within the first week of release.

Another thing to look at is that it is now being released 9 days before christmas day, the amount of people that will buy it will be huge, the fans will buy it regardless and a great number of people will buy it as a stocking filler as it will be advertised all over stores the world over.

i myself am a fan of them, not impressed by the "i dont care" song just a bit bland really.

i can see they are really looking at this in terms of sales rather than being respectful and patriotic, which is a shame!!

but then again did anyone notice how they had the same nokia phone in the last few vids and now they have a new one in the newest vid? endorsement anyone? and the big ass black jeeps in "arms race" and "thnks 4 th mmrs" videos? total product placement,

its reasons like that that i hate them as people but still like their band for the music!!!!
