The new band calling itself Fear Factory — featuring original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who played on the last two Fear Factory albums in addition to touring and recording with Strapping Young Lad and Zimmers Hole) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (Dethklok, Strapping Young Lad, Dark Angel, Death, Testament) — has set "Mechanized" as the title of its new CD, tentatively due in February 2010. "[The name] fits the vibe of the album very, very well," Bell told Sergio Alvite of Mexico's Search & Destroy in an interview.
The CD, which co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly, Paradise Lost), was recently mixed by Greg Reely (Paradise Lost, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy).
Regarding "Mechanized"'s musical direction, Bell said, "It has the raw aggression of what 'Soul Of A New Machine' [1992] was but it has... I would say it has the maturity of 'Obsolete' [1998]. When I say 'maturity,' I mean that it has the songwriting skills that 'Soul Of A New Machine' did not have whereas 'Obsolete' did."
Fear Factory has secured a brand new deal with an as-yet-undisclosed record company following a split with Liquid 8 Records, the label that issued the group's last two albums — 2004's "Archetype" and 2005's "Transgression".
In a June 14, 2009 appearance on the nationally syndicated radio program "Speed Freaks", Fear Factory drummer Raymond Herrera — who is not part of the above-mentioned lineup — stated about the group's current status, "[Guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers and I are] actually still in Fear Factory. There's a big legal battle going on right now. Essentially, what's happened is Dino and Burt have become friends again and they decided to start a new band, and furthermore, they decided to call it Fear Factory. They never communicated with us about it, and they're acting like there was never any contract, but there's four members that are Fear Factory Incorporated — which is the four of us — so it's almost like them two against us two, so it's kind of a stalemate. Moving forward, I don't know what's gonna happen with the trademark, so to speak. It's kind of a weird situation, but it's not a situation that we created that was weird."
Regarding why Christian and Raymond aren't involved with the new Fear Factory lineup, Bell told Rock My Monkey "The fact that I have not worked with Raymond and Christian for the past three years as Fear Factory is for this one reason — it's that I did not want to be involved with their manager. Her name is Christy Priske and she happens to be Christian's wife. During the 'Transgression' mixing session, her and Raymond started a love affair that lasted for a couple years. As [she was the] manager of Fear Factory, this was completely unacceptable to me."
Dino's tenure with Fear Factory ended in March 2002 after Bell announced his departure from the group, allegedly telling his bandmates at the time, "Look, guys, I'm not into it anymore, I don't wanna play in the band anymore, I don't wanna play with you guys, and I especially don't wanna play with you, Dino."
Fear Factory eventually reformed without Dino and released two more studio albums, the aforementioned "Archetype" and "Transgression".
Arkaea — the new band featuring Wolbers and Herrera alongside vocalist Jon Howard (Threat Signal) and bassist Pat Kavanaugh (Threat Signal) — released its debut album, "Years In The Darkness", on July 14 via E1 Music (formerly Koch Records).
Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

: I still hope they play material off Archetype and Transgression, if Dino can not put his ego before that of Fear Factory itself.POSTED: 10/16/2009 - 08:03 am / quote |

: Funny story, when I was 16 or so I was walking down a road in Tujunga Ca with a guitar amp and guitars all over me. I was taking it to my friends house for band practice. I didnt have a car and it was heavy as hell. Some guy pulled over in a big suv and asked if he could help out and give me a ride. I said no, ( he looked very weird) Turns out it was Dino haha. He was also going to my friends house that day. When i got there he was gone. So, thats pretty cool of someone to do that to a stranger. Thumbs up.POSTED: 10/16/2009 - 12:57 pm / quote |

archetype cetainly! but transgression...like couple songs id certainly agree with ya on. like, Moment Of Impact,Empty Vision, and 540,000 farhenheit. apparently dino was livid when he heard slave labour, he thought christian had stole the riff from Shock. POSTED: 10/16/2009 - 03:02 pm / quote |

: wait I'm confused. so this isn't the original fear factory this is another band called fear factory with two members from the other fear factory incorporated in this one? um ok wow. i will just say i'm glad bell and dino are friends and playing together again and glad they got dethkloks drummer. I'm guessing this album will turn out really good when you got dethklok and FF mixed together. can't wait to hear it.POSTED: 10/16/2009 - 06:32 pm / quote |

Classing Gene Hoglan as 'Dethklok's drummer' hardly does the man justice. Whilst I am a fan of Dethklok still, he has been in much more notable bands such as Death, Dark Angel and Strapping Young Lad, among othersPOSTED: 10/17/2009 - 05:38 am / quote |

I have always been a fan of Death and I wish Strapping Young Lad would come back, but still he does great with Dethklok and I really hope he makes the new FF album sound good, well the drumming anyways.POSTED: 10/17/2009 - 02:38 pm / quote |

: I can't wait for the album, im just getting into fear factory, ive been a divine heresy fan before Bleed The Fifth came out so im excited. As for this split up thing between Dino/Bell and Raymond/Christian, what Bell said seems to me to be false, cause if he said what was true, i would highly doubt that Christian and Raymond would want to be in a band together, so i tend to believe Raymond's point of view, but anyway, kickass new album.POSTED: 10/18/2009 - 05:57 am / quote |

I have to agree with you there, I've been a FF fan since I heard Invisible Wounds off the first Resident Evil soundtrack, I went and bought all their cds after that.
They really should put all that management crap behind them, go back to the classic line up of Burton, Herrera, Christian (on bass) and Dino guitaring again. Transgression to me was really poor, it just seemed so lacking compared to everything else, and it won't be the same sound without Herrera, he's syncing with the guitars is the FF sound.
Oh well, I hope Mechanized has a good strong concept running thru it like most of the other albums.POSTED: 10/18/2009 - 07:08 am / quote |

: this upsets me, I've been looking forward to a new FF album for some time now and when Dino left I was thinking "good riddance" I like Christian a lot, both archetype and transgression were awesome, how the hell is this fear factory without wolbers and hererra, what the F*** Burt??? the only thing that would make me feel better about any of this is a non-related spineshank reunionPOSTED: 10/18/2009 - 04:46 pm / quote |

Hmm...yeah, I agree. Something about the whole old/band new band switch that smells bad... Are Dino and Burt having a Benante and Ian-esque moment....
Still..... Love fear factory and I'm gonna check this new release out. POSTED: 10/19/2009 - 07:55 am / quote |
