Flea, Johnny Marr On New Frusciante Album

Guitarist Johnny Marr and bassist Flea are among the guests on Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante's new album, "The Empyrean," due Jan. 20 via Record Collection.

The Sonus Quartet and the New Dimension Singers also make appearances on the follow-up to 2005's "Curtains." Frusciante has released seven solo albums since rejoining the Chili Peppers in 1998.

In related news, Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis is developing an HBO series based on his rock'n'roll upbringing, tentatively titled "Scar Tissue." According to Variety, the series is not based on Kiedis' book of the same name, which was devoted more to his time in the Chili Peppers.

Kiedis is said to be considering narrating the show and making occasional cameo appearances. Meanwhile, drummer Chad Smith is making an album with a new band comprised of vocalist Sammy Hagar, bassist Michael Anthony and guitarist Joe Satriani.

As for the Chili Peppers, the band is on a hiatus of unknown length, following marathon touring in support of 2006's "Stadium Arcadium."

Not one comment on Marr so far? Don't disappoint me guys...

I loved Stadium Arcadium and By the Way, but since those records weren't as groundbreaking as Californication or BSSM the whole "let's tour for 2 years and wait another 2 until we release the next one" thing seems a little bit too much. Sure they're one of the biggest bands of their time, but if you look at the Beatles or the Stones (or even the Smiths for that matter) and see how they released some awesome stuff at least once a year during their heyday. I CRAVE for more RHCP material!

I mean, I still love the Chili's and all, but I think that their most interesting work in the last couple of years was with The Mars Volta and Froosh's solo albums. It seems like those guys are feeling a constant need to make music, whereas Anthony has always been taking extended vacations and breaks and such (according to his autobio)...

Musically I think Niandra is a very beautiful album...but I just can't deal with his voice in it. Plus it just gets me down knowing how ****ed up he was then. But yea, everything JF makes is amazing. My fav guitarist, hands down.

Id reccommend Shadows Collide With People first, its a gentle ease into his music, then try his 6 in 6 on record collection, then the others.... this one is his 10th solo album... it's amazing!! I can't wait for this album.. Frusciante is my favourite musician and artist in the world.... incredible!!

I just REALLY hope this hiatus doesn't turn into a break-up. They have no reason to break up. At least think they don't. I don't think they have a problem with each other. This band has always been about the music, so it's awesome how everyone's doing their own projects and I'm absolutely psyched about all of them, but I just hope to God that this hiatus just stays a hiatus.

he has about 10-2 released away from rhcp,1 after rjoinging,another in 2002,6 in 2004,released the other half of one of them easrlier this year,and then theres this one.

Recommend Shadows Collide With People First? Are you shitting me? Any one going into his music should start with niandra lades. If you can't start there at least start with To Record Only Water For Ten Days.

Shadows in my opinion is by far the most accessible album from frusciante, hands down. its a great starting point for anybody who is not really familiar with the type of music john plays. don't get me wrong, Niandra Lades is a great album in my book, but to the average person, its far more easy to dismiss an album as experimental as Niandra Lades as trash.
