In addition to an upcoming documentary and a new studio album of all original material on the way, it seems like the Foo Fighters have something else in store: a full-length vinyl of cover songs.
The record, which is to be called Medium Rare, will feature the Foo Fighter’s renditions of songs from groups like Cream, Pink Floyd, and the Ramones.
The album will be released on April 16th as a limited-edition vinyl for Record Store Day, an event that celebrates independent record stores.
The tracks for the upcoming release will be as follows:
01. Band On The Run (Paul McCartney & Wings) 02. I Feel Free (Cream) 03. Life of Illusion (Joe Walsh) 04. Young Man Blues (Mose Allison) 05. Bad Reputation (Thin Lizzy) 06. Darling Nikki (Prince) 07. Down In The Park (Gary Numan) 08. Baker Street (Gerry Rafferty) 09. Danny Says (Ramones) 10. Have A Cigar (Pink Floyd) 11. Never Talking To You Again (Hüsker Dü) 12. Gas Chamber (Angry Samoans) 13. This Will Be Our Year (The Zombies)
While it may be the first time you ever hear the Foo Fighters play some of these songs, the band has been known to play a few of them live in the past.
You can check out their version of Band On The Run below.
im pumped, they left out some of their best covers though (sister europe, i'm in love with a german film star). i heard a lot of the live versions of these, i hope this has studio versions
im loving this! most bands do cover albums when they dont have the material to make a full album, i think its great theyre releasing this the same month as their new album!
I don't want to say anything bad about Ghrol but that's just him playing with McCartney's band. They seem to be playing most if not all the important parts of the song and his singing isn't special at all. Therefore I don't see the point... :/
Hüsker Dü! Awesome! I always thought they sounded like a more mainstream version of Dü. I kinda wish they'd put their cover of Holiday in Cambodia on this though.
Not only am I disappointed that almost all of these are classic rock, but I'm disappointed in the lack of new-ness. Most of these songs they've already recorded or played live.
yeah I was gonna say as far as I'm aware only 3 of those songs haven't seen a B-Side release yet... little shocked they're not putting Have a Cigar on this release though. also wondering if they're re-recording the older ones.
Ugh. ANOTHER Have a Cigar cover? I swear, that's the most covered Pink Floyd song in the universe. I did enjoy Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade's version, though.

Where I would fight to the death that there's as much crappy "classic" rock as newer music, I would argue calling Husker Du classic rock. They ain't boring. lol.
Wow, their doing a Thin Lizzy cover...and they chose Bad Reputation!?!?! That may well be the worst Lizzy song out there!
Don't think this will be an album worth picking up. After hearing band on the run here, it seems they're not doing anything with the song, just playing it. Any garage band can do that!
Wow. April's gonna freaking rock! Two FF albums, a FF documentary, and Alter Bridge tickets. Thank God for April 2011. The only thing better would be FF tickets
I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad that their Kiss The Bottle cover isn't on there. On the one hand, it was a really crappy cover. On the other hand, it'd introduce more people to Jawbreaker. Hmm.
Foo Fighters release a cover album and there's no Nirvana song? Was I the only one expecting something like that?
I would actually be more surprised if they did. Nirvana was and is krist dave and kurts thing. dave bringing another band into that might seem distasteful to kurt or krist and the nirvana legacy. PLUS courtney owns the shit out of those song rights and no way in hell she'd allow dave grohl to even think about covering one of her loving kurts songs.
