GN'R: New Album Next Month

More than a decade after its conception, Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" will finally see the light of day before year's end, sources close to the situation told Billboard.

The set will be a Best Buy exclusive and will be available Sunday, November 23, rather than the usual Tuesday.

In the run-up to release date, album track "Shackler's Revenge" will debut in the video game "Rock Band 2," while a portion of "If the World" is playing over the end credits in the new Leonardo DiCaprio/Russell Crowe film "Body Of Lies."

In addition, GNR's seminal 1987 full-length debut, "Appetite For Destruction," will be reissued on vinyl on October 28 via Interscope.

The band's last new studio albums were the simultaneously released "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II" in September 1991. A covers set, "The Spaghetti Incident?," followed in 1993, and featured some of the last GNR recordings from original guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan.

This spring, soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008. A Dr Pepper spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

I'm tired of people saying this. Everyone knows that already, but it's the closest thing to a real gnr album than there's going to be any time soon. Technically, Use Your Illusions weren't GNR either cuz they didn't have Steven Adler. Velvet Revolver damn sure ain't GNR. Slash and Duff are cool players, but a lead guitarist and bass player need a songwriter and they don't have one. Also, Matt Sorum is lame. I'm not expecting Chinese Democracy to be a classic along the lines of Appetite, but I'll bet a 40 Oz. of Pabst to anyone and everyone that it will be better than any album by Velvet Revolver, Slash's Snakepit, or Slash's "solo" album.

Even if it's a sign up and we'll send thing there is bound to be loads of cans that will end up damaged or exploded en-route since they'd have to send them one by one unless they did SUPER THICK packaging to keep them from being damaged (still can't prevent the cans from getting over shaken though due to clumsy mail people). It just doesn't seem likely it'll work without something going wrong.

It's not going to come out. Knowing Axl he'll be "Wait,wait, we need to add more guitar, and drums on this song." That's pretty cheap not to include Buckethead and Slash on the Dr. Pepper deal. Buckethead's an awesome guitarist, but when he joined Guns N Roses, it just didn't sound like them. Axl should just call the band something else, because it was only GNR when all the guys were together.

If the album isn't released people will be dissapointed (again). If the album is released and is anything short of a masterpiece, it will be shunned. However if it does manage to live up to somewhere in the region of 12 years in the making, it could possibly spark what I like to call a "rock revival" and perhaps rock n roll will dominate the mainstream once again...a little optimistic by me I know but I think it's possible.
Before anyone says they don't want rock n roll to be mainstream again....don't lie, because I know the majority of people would like to be able to turn on any random radio station and hear a face melting solo.

I think they'll have some computer program at stores where they sell Dr. Pepper that certify whether or not you had one before, by ID number or something...that way you can simply go to the store and get one. I'll probably give the album a listen but I'm not expecting anything great, it's more of a spectacle than a musical thing at this point.
