Godsmack: New Album's Release Date

Godsmack have set an April 25 release date for their new album, "IV". The album's first single, "Speak", will be released to radio on Tuesday, February 14.

In a recent interview with MTV.com, Godsmack frontman Sully Erna had the following to say about the follow-up to 2003's "Faceless": "It's a killer record, and I'm really curious to see what the public's going to think of it. It's still Godsmack ? I don't think it's lost the integrity of what Godsmack has built our career off. The toughness of the sound is still there. But we've expanded a little bit more. After 'Faceless', we started to spread our wings a bit and reintroduce guitar solos and stuff like that. The acoustic record [2004's 'The Other Side'] was a departure and it was very well received. It opened up a new audience for us ? a lot more adults were coming to the shows, bringing their kids and having a glass of wine. That gave us a permission slip to take it to the next level.

"It will perk people's eyebrows up again," he added. "The first couple of records were kind of the same record, in a sense. They were sort of bordering that metal sound and then the third record had more rock mixed into it. ['The Other Side'] really softened up the sound. This one is more rock and roll, and some songs are very epic, in a Tool [-ish] sense. Some songs are like old-school Godsmack, like 'Bad Religion'. It's going to service the core fans and introduce some new music to those fans. It's also going to recruit a bigger and broader audience, because the songwriting has matured so much."

Godsmack has only had three MAJOR records. "The Other Side" was an EP with only 7 songs. Therefore, it makes it their 4th full length album.

The Stone Temple Pilots all had an album called No.4. No roman numeral, but still I have to agree its an over done, gimmic concept. Godsmack is still a very good band. I like that they have gone all the directions they have. It gives me a more diverse range of music to listen to. They cover many moods. Most of you immature cry babies with sand in your vaginas dont even know what music is because you want it all to sound the same. Everything with unintelligable(Poorly articulated or enunciated, or drowned by noise) is somehow great. When you get over rebelling against your parents you will grow up to have better taste in music. Thats not to say you will like Godsmack. Hate them forever for all i care, they have no problems selling tickets. Some people like to throw around the word "sell outs". Meaning they got soft so they could get radio play and stay popular. This is from the slipknot crowd type people. I used to hate slipknot, then i started to like them, now i dont even have to be a closet fan. In now way was Sully saying they are anything like Tool. Its called 'making an example', a comparitive to a situation, call it what you will, but it wasnt a statement about being 'like' TooL. Couldnt agree more, everyone is always arguing about that shit. Its so retarded, just listen to the damn bands you like and dont give a f**k what everyone else thinks. There. It may be pretty lame how they got thier name, but there it is. People say theyre anti god or whatever, but I believe in religion, sorta, and I like the name. So everyone justs needs to chill out and quit bashin Godsmack. I hope they stick around for a long ass time and keep makin music.
