I'm pretty sure thats not true, The Jam are a hugely influencial band to many artists and music fans alike.
Anyway, this could be good, i had nothing against American Idiot but do long for the 2 minute pop-punk days of Insomniac.

lol that's what I was thinking.

Either way, he's a good songwriter, like them or not, so this album will probably be at least solid power pop

Stop, Drop, and Roll is, in my opinion, the best thing Green Day's ever put out. I'd love if the new album had that influence, but it's not gonna sound like that. It's why they did it as a side project.
Plus, if you read the whole interview with Billie Joe, he talks about how they wrote and recorded FHT stuff so quickly without really changing much, where as they normally take forever to get perfect arrangements and song structures. Green Day's music is much more calculated than the garage rock that FHT did.

Actually now that I think about it, I've never heard it said outside of places like Wisconsin, Illinois or Minnesota. Never been to New York so I'm not sure how common it is there, but yeah now that I think about it, the phrase is sort of Midwestern.
Anyway on topic, can't wait for new Green Day. I've loved nearly everything they've put out, more disliking certain songs than full albums, so yeah can't wait.

Yeah, I'm from NY as well and EVERYONE uses that term (in a positive way). They use it in movies all the time, so it must exist to SOME extent on the West coast.

Also, I REALLY hope this comes out like a mixture of insomniac and warning. That would rule.

can you people stop bashing Green Day for being "punk", a good band never says "were (insert genre) and thats all were going to do for the next 30 years of our career". The Beatles changed up their sound, Pink Floyd changed up their sound, Led Zeppelin changed up their sound, Iron Maiden changed up their sound. This is what good bands do. Once they conquer a sound they move onto the next. Im not the biggest green day fan but im really sick of these immature comments about "O there suppose to be punk" and all that crap. Hell If every band punk band is not suppose to change their sound then every punk band would have to pull a Sex Pistols move and release only 1 album and call it quits. Look at how the clash changed their sound up from their first album, if they didnt god only knows the state music would be in today.

lol im from south florida and i know this is getting way off topic but i just wanna say that im pretty sure badass is a generic alloverthecountry term

i know lots of people who say it down here and people say it when im in north carolina during the summer.

btw this album just needs to kick ass thats all i know. but they need to go back to the good old days of dookie where they werent so damn political about everything.

lol watch this album be about the economy i can see it

cant wait though

one thing wrong there, the Clash were actually good, Green Day never really was. but you are right about people saying what genre they are. and if green day ever DID say they were punk, i'd just laugh. the way i see it, the clash were the last REAL punk band. although their sound was different, they kept the "up yours" attitude for the most part

American idiot was awesome, and Id rather them be emo than power pop (cuz that means less retarded powerchords), wait.. were you saying they were just emo with the makeup? or everything? I thought they were good, but with this direction, they'll finally be a 100% conformist band and they'll suck

how can you know when they havent even released song titles or even fully decided on what it will sound like. If we follow the trend, this album will probably blow. Course, thats based on my opinion, but GD albums have gotten progressively worse since Nimrod in my view.

Anyway on topic, can't wait for new Green Day. I've loved nearly everything they've put out, more disliking certain songs than full albums, so yeah can't wait.

Badass is a common term over here on the west coast too, so I don't really know if it's a "midwest" thing.

THIS. i agree 110%. a band changing their sound/style as they get older is a part of growing as a musician, and if you dont want to grow as a musician, why would you keep going? plus, dookie pt. 2 12+ years later would ruin the brilliance of dookie anyway. so, im not sure if ill like this cd, but props on GD trying new things.

What're you talking about, American Idiot was great.

It was mediocre and seriously overplayed. I like Green Day so this isn't a hit at them but it was a let down compared to their other albums.

There was a few good songs on the album, American Idiot and St. Jimmy but it totally has alienated their old fan base it was just a complete change in direction.

They're like Linkin Park as well who now have a totally different fan base than before usually to cater to the new audience as mainstream has changed.

Now they cater to screaming 14 year old girls compared to a decade ago.
