'Guitar Hero Metallica' Coming Soon

Tor Thorsen of GameSpot reports: When sifting through an SEC filing of Activision's over the weekend, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Edward Woo — associate of the highly visible Michael Pachter — uncovered a gem in the section where the Santa Monica, California-based publisher discussed its upcoming game slate.

"In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms," the company said in its report. Activision's fiscal year ends on March 31, 2009, which means that the game will likely follow the holiday release of Guitar Hero: World Tour (nee Guitar Hero 4).

Guitar Hero: Metallica will be the first time a game based on the multiplatinum-selling band — which has become only slightly less famous for its antipiracy efforts as its musical achievements — has made it to retail. However, it is the second such game to be announced. In 2003, Vivendi Games — which will soon merge with Activision — struck a deal to create a vehicular combat game inspired by Metallica's music. Unconfirmed reports stated that the project had been quietly canceled in 2005.

But this looks like it could be a sweet edition to the GH family. I think they should do like a Rock Timeline sort of game bringing the user through different periods of rock starting w/the likes Buddy Holly & Chuck Berry, ending with bands of today.

i agree with those of you who are complaining about the one-band guitar hero games. Most of the (small amounts of) fun that I've had playing guitar hero was because of the variety in all of the songs. pretty much only hardcore metallica fans will buy this.

In Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, there are also bands that inspired and/or toured heavily with Aeromsmith. so, this one isn't going to be ONLY Metallica. there will be some of the band members' favorite current bands, bands they toured with, and bands that inspired them.

all that said, i'm not sure i'm going to buy this. i like Rock Band a whole lot better.

My 8 year old was pretty pumped to hear this. Ever since he played One on GH3 he loves metallica and BECAUSE OF GH3 HE HAS MADE ME START TEACHING HIM REAL GUITAR. Also as a result anytime I play anything like Dream Theater or Vai he says how cool the solo's are and how he wants to be able to play that one day. He could care less about the guitar parts in music before these games came out. All of you haters need to realize this game does far more good for the guitar community than bad.

When something can incorporate two things that I love (music and videogames), I am all for it, and I don't see why people keep whining and complaining about it. last time i checked, this is ultimate-guitar.com....a guitar tab and guitar news website, why the hell would you be on it if you dont play guitar? everybody whos here should be either experienced guitarists, or learning, and if not, youre a retard. no matter what people think, guitar hero DOES help the guitar community, and help everyday people discover new music and bands, because yes i hate the idea of people learning music from guitar hero and going out n sayin its the best music ever and it being all they listen to, but nonetheless gets music discovered...yeah there are MANY douchebags out there that say guitar hero sucks n its a replacement to real guitar, but its not, and from what i know most guitar hero players know that...whoever thinks differently has some serious problems. and i dont understand why everybody overlooks the fact that the game is not ALL METALLICA. the bonus songs that will be included are going to be their favorite bands, people theyve toured with, etc. etc. Metallica is my favorite band BY FAR, and im very excited for this game...if you think its stupid, stop givin shit 2 all the people who want it, and just DONT FUCKING BUY IT.

I used to think like this when I was younger, getting mad b/c people liked bands I liked after I did, calling them posers and such. You'll get over it. Just be happy people are liking good music. Alright, so we get to play each song, which starts with a little guitar line, then the drums come in a little, then the drums stop and you play the riff a few times, then you continue while the drums hit every beat, then the song gets into full swing with the riff still playing, and have this riff go on for the rest of the song until an impossible solo comes along, only to repeat the riff and refrain a bunch.

They'll more likely take a similar approach as they are with GH: Aerosmith - I.E., include songs from bands they've toured with over the years, so theres' a substantial amount of take into account there. Metallica's music will be a constant, but there'll be other bands in there, most likely in an effort to keep the game fresh, and to appeal to people who aren't as nutty about the band as others. Myself, it might be a way to finally have Motorhead in guitar hero, but thats about it.

i also believe that Guitar Hero is taking it the completely wrong direction now, they should continue with the multi-song/genre content of the game which is what people were drawn in by, and gave them the opportunity to enjoy great music.

See,when I've went to a friends house or some place else to play the Guitar Hero and rock band games I've had my guitar and a practice amp with me and play both the game and my guitar.I must say Ive never feared the plastic guitar(like some here)and anyone that was around to hear me play saw the difference in the two.Hell,I played One and then everyone wanted me to show them how...Now I have rapper wanna bes wanting to buy old guitars off me cause they wanna play real guitar.I thinks thats a real real good thing.I mean a lot more people "don't" play guitar than "do" so i think any paths that leads to the guitar and its players is good to have out there.

I'm most likely going to buy this. I love Metallica. And even though I almost never play these games ever again after I beat them on all the difficulties, I think Guitar Hero is a fun game. The only thing that bothers me is when I'm playing on Expert. Its almost like wasting your time if you've beaten it already. Well, compared to the real guitar.

Now, to all of you faggots who are probably going to bitch at me for comparing it to the REAL guitar, just shut the hell up, because I'm not calling it a "substitute" or a "replacement", but I just feel more accomplished when I play Beast and the Harlot on the real guitar instead of GH 2. It's fun, but thats only before you've unlocked everything and 5-starred every song on every difficulty. Then its time to wait for a sequel or expansion.

However, the people who do call it that should just shut the hell up and not waste their time bitching about a video game. It's a game, you can't make it go away by complaining and telling the GH players to go play the real guitar. Its just a GOD DAMN GAME

But on the other hand, to all the posers who think shredding on this game makes them something, **** off. The game made me want to buy a few songs that were on there and check out a few of the bands, but thats does NOT MEAN I LOVE ALL OF THE FUCKING BANDS ON THE GAME. Don't be a fag. Say you like it only if you ACTUALLY like it. Trust me, I know someone who is like that and now she hangs around with a bunch of queers who make her listen to stuff she hates thinking she likes it.

Now we're gonna have to deal with a bunch of posers, claiming to be fans of the band because they play their game. Agreed. I'll get the game, I'll enjoy it for the most part, but I mean....I can only listen to so much Metallica. Especially when most of their songs aren't exactly short. At least GH is gonna make the note charts difficult, not like Rock Band. Ride the Lightning is gonna be sick in this game. Hopefully there's a lot more bonus songs that aren't just Metallica.

I love metallica, I love Aerosmith, but I dont think that these games are good choices for the band or the game. I think it is fantastic for a kid to pick up a video guitar instead of video gun. I've played guitar all my life. All styles, and love every bit of it. I've been reading the postings here about the video games and how some out there have a major problem with that. To them I say GET A LIFE(and clean up your language while you're at - there are people out here that know who you are and what you claim to be in your life and sadly your language seems to say otherwise - I'm praying for you, man. WWJD). Just because someone can play Van Halen or whatever and can play 32nd notes faster than most it doesn't make them a 'real' guitar player (and this is coming from someone that CAN play Van Halen, etc. - ME) It just means they are someone that can do those things. So what does that say? Aren't you just copying what others are playing? Are you creating your own style or music? Or are you just playing music they wrote and then calling it your own music? Keep that in mind when you start trashing the people that like the video games. You aren't any more unique than anyone else, and everyone of us has influences. If a video game was someone's influence into playing guitar (vs. your influence being Zakk Wylde or whoever) then that's wonderful.

I say to those of you that love the video games - MORE POWER TO YA!! If that is what you love doing in life then HAVE FUN! I see no problem with those of us that play 'real' guitar vs. those that are playing a video game. If anything I think the video games are great for guitar in general. The whiners need to get a life. last time i checked, this is ultimate-guitar.com....a guitar tab and guitar news website, why the hell would you be on it if you dont play guitar? everybody whos here should be either experienced guitarists, or learning, and if not, youre a retard. no matter what people think, guitar hero DOES help the guitar community, and help everyday people discover new music and bands, because yes i hate the idea of people learning music from guitar hero and going out n sayin its the best music ever and it being all they listen to, but nonetheless gets music discovered...yeah there are MANY douchebags out there that say guitar hero sucks n its a replacement to real guitar, but its not, and from what i know most guitar hero players know that...whoever thinks differently has some serious problems. and i dont understand why everybody overlooks the fact that the game is not ALL METALLICA. the bonus songs that will be included are going to be their favorite bands, people theyve toured with, etc. etc. Metallica is my favorite band BY FAR, and im very excited for this game...if you think its stupid, stop givin shit 2 all the people who want it, and just DONT FUCKING BUY IT.
also, the way i see it, guitar hero/rock band is probably the greatest selling franchise of party games, so they must be doing something right with it.

People play guitar hero because it makes you feel like a guitar hero, not as a substitute for playing real guitar. I'm a guitar player and I enjoy doing both. At least guitar hero has inspired a lot of people to play real guitar, and has done good for rock music. You hear more of it now on the radio than before guitar hero games.. thats for certain.

As for guitar hero metallica, thats a title i'm waiting for (metallica fan here, if you cant tell by the avatar)

well it sounds awesome and probably going to be hard as hell but thats awesome it does have pros and cons but hey aerosmith wasnt that bad they added in some other variety im sure they will do the same with metallica and make it as awesome as the other games i play both real and plastic guitar the plastic guitar at some points is harder then the real guitar so stop ragging on gh until your good enough to be on the game yourself and btw metallica on satalite radio badd ace!!! i love it so i know the game will be awesome
