Iron Maiden Completes Recording New Album

British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have completed the recording process for their new album at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas with producer Kevin Shirley. According to a posting on Kevin's official web site, "There's still work to do, but the band portion is complete and in the can, so to speak."

Shirley previously worked on the last three Maiden albums — 2000's "Brave New World", 2003's "Dance Of Death" and 2006's "A Matter Of Life And Death".

The next Iron Maiden album will be the band's fifteenth studio record, and they face a challenge to follow up "A Matter Of Life And Death", which was received well critically and saw the group play the whole album on tour.

Speaking at last year's premiere of the band's documentary film "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", guitarist Adrian Smith stated, "There's always a bit of pressure to follow up the last album, in a way it's good because it motivates you.

"We never get complacent; we always try our best for our own sake as much as anything else. As far as pressure for another album, we just do what we do — we've been doing it long enough now, we know what we're doing. [laughs]"

Iron Maiden will headline this year's edition of the UK's Sonisphere festival, which will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 and Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Knebworth.

If this is true, hopefully it will be released this year, rather than 2011 as previously suggested. Granted, nothing is concrete, but i hope we don't have to wait over 10 months for an album where the band portion is already complete.

I'll give it a listen, but my expectations aren't high. Didn't enjoyed Dance Of Death and Matter Of Life And Death that much. And I hope this album doesn't have the word "death" on its name.

I hope this is released in the late summer or early fall. How long could it possibly take to mix the album and put it on a cd. Maybe a month or 2 at most. My prediction this will come out any time between august and october.

To 1st comment...how did you find that out?
To 2nd comment...THAT'S HILARIOUS!

But anyway, I think this album is gonna be a hit, they've had it coming for a while now.

I'm curious to see what Iron Maiden will come up with now. Will they return to their classic 80s style, will they continue along the more progressive line, or will they surprise us with something totally new?

futurama_rules wrote on 02/16/2010 - 11:10 am / quote |
hahahaha, what happened to that statement like 4 years ago saying "Iron Maiden will never write again." Gotta love when bands pretend to quit to get you more interested when they finally do release something. The whole time that I thought they disbanded I was thinking "Why not just get one of the other lineups and do it" haha.

But no, Go Bruce, go Harris, love these guys. Can't wait to hear more.

This news is quite coincidental to me, as I've been listening to the entire Iron Maiden discography in chronological order the past few days. I expect to finish today. That's like 18 hours of Maiden.

Cannot wait for this. Maiden only lost their edge with the X Factor and Virtual XI - they gloriously reclaimed it with Brave New World because they took a new direction rather than go back and try to do what they did in the 80s. When you try to go back and do something you did brilliantly in the past, it's never as good. Perfect example of that is Death Magnetic. I can't wait to hear it and hopefully, should it not be out by the summer, they'll play a track or two from it at Sonisphere .

I guess their music still appeals to some people, but everytime I check out a new album it is just so blah. People complain when bands change that they have sold out, I think that Iron Maiden staying the same for 20 something albums is hurting them... it even isnt the guitar playing that is so repetitive.. its the damn ride cymbal bell! Ting ting tingting!

You don't need to put so much energy into explaining why Maiden is not overrated to a troll, we all know they're not - the dude's trolling - he enjoys watching reactions like this one, the sad no-life sort he is. Just ignore 'em. But anyway, can't really wait for the new album - I believe Maiden won't disappoint. If they didn't manage to disappoint their fans in 30 years, I doubt that they'll do it now. Up the Irons! \m/

Good one..
After so many albums, and 3 decades, i think its pretty much impossible for maiden to release something we would hate. They are Metal Gods, and no one can deny it. Dave was the reason i picked up guitars, and for a while lately, i drifted to Melodic Death Metal, but even today, i sleep with Powerslave with my earphones on

LOL you made my day, thanks for the comedy show...

On topic: Gotta wait for it, if the band piece is done, the mastering process and mixing should take about 3 months at last 5 months so far, then the printing and all that stuff. I think it'll be out about September

Iron Maiden still kill live, and have actually gotten better every time I've seen them. I like a handful of songs off the last three albums, and having seen the last one in its entirety, I don't mind a few new songs in the set. I look forward to every Maiden album, so we'll see.

did you just compare iron maiden to green day? I am lost for word seeing as iron maiden are superior in musical talent by millions to green day. Putting green day in the same sentence comparing them to iron maiden like they're on the same level is like saying queen is okay but bob dylan Is a much better singer than Freddie.

Hmmm, AMOLAD was pretty good. Dance of Death has got to be my favourite maiden song, but i didn't like much on it after that. I'll certainly be looking forward to this new album, but it better hurry up! before 2011 at least!

oh and nobnobnob2 is the most successful troll I've ever seen. Please don't feed him anymore.

Nah, he is a good drummer. He just accentuates every damn riff with that ride bell... I really can't explain in words lol.

We did people bash me for liking Green Day and Iron Maiden both? Who cares? If anything, I have much better open-mindness when it comes to music than any of you.

So what, I think Green Day = Iron Maiden when it comes to influencing the music industry.

You guys need to grow the hell up.

I find Greenday's latest album terrible.
As for Iron Maiden, I'm excited to hear it, but you're most likely right, probably lost their edge totally lol.

I know what yer mean, you can hear it in Rainmaker. Its a little annoying cuz it lessens the power of the music.. kinda.

And to Modirnwarfare. Influencing the music industry the way Green day have is one of the most inhuman things ever, so hang your head in shame!

Loved AMOLAD, I can smell the proggy vein they've been mining as of late growing thicker. They're deffo gonna have a rocker or two on it anyway, but theres a jazz odyssey or twi a'comin.

what? where do these ignorant f***ers come from, seriously?

this is a band that have been going 30 years, inspired 3 generations of heavy music, released 14 albums, had countless classics and mainstream recognition (which was unheard of for metal bands in the 80's)

i strongly believe theyre without a doubt the biggest metal band on earth and their fanbase is the largest by far

still overrated? please log off this website right now!

This! Thank you :P
