Joe Satriani: New Album To Be Released On Special-Edition CD/DVD

Currently ranked the seventh best electric guitarist in the world, Joe Satriani will release his highly anticipated 13th solo album "Professor Satchafunkilus And The Musterion Of Rock" as a single disc CD and "Special Edition CD + DVD" (the latter featuring over 40 minutes of bonus DVD footage). The album is released in the UK by Epic Records via SonyBMG on Monday, March 31.

Over the course of his career, Joe Satriani has achieved legendary success with his 12 solo albums and three platinum DVDs, selling more than 10 million units worldwide. On March 31 (UK) and April 1 (North America), Satriani is set to continue his brand of electric education for the masses with the release of his 13th solo album, entitled "Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock".

That number 7 rank doesn't mean anything. I think we all know that when it comes to doing what Satch does, he has been numero uno since the Surfing album. Vai would be second, only marginally.

Here's the deal, there is no "Greatest Guitarist". There never has been - There never will be. You just can't compare that many types of music and say "Ok, this guy is the best!" Nothing against Joe, he's awesome. I went and saw him live last year, GREAT show! It just kills me that all the mainstream music is what people compare. If you really want to hear the most amazing guitarist's, you need to go and pick up "Oracal" - Michael Hedges (RIP), "Casino" or "Elegant Gypsy" from Al Di Meola, anything from Wes Montgomery on the Riverside label, any Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dire Straits or Jeff Beck. Not to mention Robert Johnson or Lightning Hopkins. Those guys are crazy on thier acoustics.

Guys enough about this silly list business, lets get back to the topic at hand. The New Album!!!! I won't say how etc but I have already listened to this CD in full and I can tell you all right now, it is Satch like you've never heard him before. Everything fits in place perfectly, people have slated the 3rd song "I Just Wanna Rock" inparticular, however it really works with everything else around it aswell. I'll finish with this.....watch out for track 10, it'll knock your socks off!!!

he problem with that list is alot of those guitarist play very similar styles, vai and satch etc are very similar in style. Jimmy Page belongs on the top, he may not have some of the technical skill but his composing skill is probably the best.

Then you have people like Yngwie Malmsteen who is probably one of the most technically skilled player but is one of the worst composers.

You know what I hate ? Well, you've gotten this far into my post, so I'll assume you want to know...or at least taking your time to learn. People that say, "I hate it when people are always saying -name- is the best guitarist !!!," and then proceed to say, "If you want to see an AMAZINGLY GUITARGSAMIC guitarist, look up -name-." They may not be saying "best," which is subjective to preference, but "amazing" is equally as opinionated.

Some people think Yngwie is amazing. I think the complete opposite. Will I deny he's technical ? Of course not, that would be ignorant. Do I think he's amazing ? Far from it -- I'm more of a Petrucci enthusiast/worshipper.

Back on topic, I haven't heard all of Satch's songs, but the ones I have heard were never disappointing. Someone said Super Colossal was disappointing, and hey, that's cool for them, but I thought it was pretty damn good, and that's great for me. =D ! I look forward to hearing Satch's new tunes.

seriously? wow. even if you people have surpassed him in the last couple decades, he's still one of the top 3 ofall time for me. how could he not be? sure, he's kind of an ass now, but you can't deny his all around playing ability and songwriting. i mean come on, he wrote a classic song playing only Am and G. lol.

I'm definitely looking forward to this satch release. one of my favorite guitarists, and he is always able to weave great melodies around the simplest rhythms. a musical genius.

Personally I feel that everyone on my list can play better than those who are not on my list. Is this arguable? Certainly. Of it makes you feel any better, I haven't really heard any of Dimebag's stuff, and I make a point to familiarize myself with the music completely before adding them on.... the LIST. Besides, odds are I would put him on my top 100.

Yeah, it happens every time any kind of "top" list appears. There are at least 100 guitar players that all belong in a top 10 guitar players list and the ones who actually end up there are nothing but personal preference.

Anyway, I got a chance to hear the new CD. I'm really impressed with it. It won't astound or amaze anyone technically, but it feels like every song is really telling a story, more so than anything else he's written. Very musical, and rather different from past CDs I think. A must buy anyway.

why are you shredders so quick to rank guitarists. if one were to segovia would be first...as he basically made guitar academicaly acceptable and standardized classical guitar technique. Segovia also was a pretentious dick who could only play what was in front of him and never improvised. no guitarist is number one, its all oppinion.

By the top guitarists in the world, what do you mean? Fastest, the best, or the legendary? Get that straight before you start belting out your own list. Fastest in my opinion would be Michael Angelo Batio, best, well that's highly personal, for me it's Stevie Ray, and legendary....Hendrix maybe? Face, he IS a legend.

All I'm saying is you needa know what you're looking for before you start a list - and a flame war.
