Kaiser Chiefs Reveal New Album Plans

artist: kaiser chiefs date: 01/21/2008 category: upcoming releases

Kaiser Chiefs are set to release a series of brand new EPs and downloads in 2008, as they strive to break free of the conventional album release cycle.

Speaking to NME.COM, drummer Nick Hodgson explained that the band were bored with the usual process of recording an album every two years, and wanted to do something different.

We mentioned mini-albums and double EPs, but we’ve got no fixed plans yet,” he said. “We’ve got the songs though, which is good."

We want to break the routine of having to make an album every two years. It’s totally boring,” he continued. “In the charts there are tons of indie bands playing chords and singing songs about the weekend. We’re going to be doing the opposite and being the best.

The band have already started playing new songs as part of their live set, with ‘You Want History’ and ‘Never Miss A Beat’ aired on their recent winter tour.

When we played them the crowd were excited,” explained Hodgson. “The reaction when we finished playing shocked us, because we’ve never had that with a new song before.

With the second album we tried to consolidate and be more song-based,” he concluded. “This year we’re going to relax more and just enjoy doing music. We’ve got nothing to lose.

See this week’s NME for the full low-down on the Kaiser Chiefs’ album, plus new album exclusives from the likes of CSS, Pete Doherty, Dirty Pretty Things and Franz Ferdinand.

The Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 are coming soon – and it’s time to have your say. Vote now by heading to NME.COM/awardsvote and you could win VIP tickets to the ceremony, which takes place in London on February 28.

Thanks for the info to NME.com.

I still do not see why people complain about albums every 2 years and so on, 2 years is a lot of time!

Alright. I'm not a big Kaiser Chiefs fan, they're alright if you're in the mood for that kinda music.

I'll check their new stuff out, though.

Not the biggest fan of their music, but I'm very glad to see they're trying to do something new and innovative though! More bands should be thinking of ways to keep it fresh these days.

Hope this one doesn't get as repetitive as all of the stuff I've heard from them...

They make good songs, but they use the same sentence too much in one damn song.

They're kind of rubbish it took them over twenty takes to do a Beatles cover. I find there stuff too repetetive, and there singer's kind of dull. Sorry to everyone that likes them XD

mmm....i like them, but singing songs that are the opposite of normal "weekend" songs, sons that are about everyday is what they in their last album.

I hate the stance that the Kaiser Chiefs take on every other band with which they share the slightest amount of common ground with. Everytime I read something about them, here or elsewhere, they're banging on about everything is sh*t in music and culture etc. and how they're completely different and want to be the opposite. Sorry, "Everything Is Average Nowadays" is the most average song I can imagine, and they're the ones writing uber radio-friendly songs that get played anywhere and everywhere, so that at the end of th day you have an outburst of "oooooh oooooh oooooh!".
I didn't originally dislike their music but their personality is tainting that, which is a shame, I don't particularly want to dislike a band for their image. KC just make it impossible to avoid, they should stop being arrogant/hating on other bands, and just get on with it.

I guess it's good to get away from the stupid trend of an album every 2 or 3 years, so props for that.

However, Ruby is possibly the worst thing to ever assault my ears. And it gets played constantly on like every radio station ever.

I don't really like this band, can't stand the singers accent. Plus the music is a bit bland for my taste
