Lars Ulrich: Metallica Album Due Out In Summer/Fall 2007

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told Mike Davies of BBC Radio 1 during this past weekend's Download festival in England that the group's new album will not be released until the summer or early fall of 2007, reports Blabbermouth.net.

"I think we've realized that the creative process works a little slower for us than it used to," he explained. "And we're OK with that. It's not a bad thing, unless, of course, you're waiting for a record."

Asked if he thought it was scary that everybody seemed to know everything about the band since the "Some Kind Of Monster" movie was released, Ulrich said, "No, it's not scary. I'm proud we put that shit out there. It's just kind of weird because it's like four years ago. Everybody's kind of still assuming that that's the way it is now, which is like? couldn't be further from the way it is now. We're in the studio, no psychiatrists, no film crews? everybody's getting along, having a great time. [We're] just kind of doing our thing. Back on that record [2003's 'St. Anger'], it was just a very different experience 'cause we had to kind of get it back together. Now everything's cool."

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett recently revealed that the band have "about fifteen songs" written for the follow-up to 2003's "St. Anger." In a short interview conducted at the MAP MusiCares MAP Fund concert on May 12 honoring Hammett's Metallica bandmate James Hetfield, Kirk admitted the band is really hitting the song writing groove, even busting out two to three new songs per week.

In other news, Hetfield and Hammett -- along with members of Arch Enemy and Nevermore -- have lent their voices to the cartoon series "Death Clock Metalocalypse". Check out the show teaser at this location.

Brendon Small, known for the series "Home Movies", co-created "Death Clock Metalocalypse" about a Norwegian heavy metal band called Deathklok. Although they rock to the top of the charts with gusto, they are also incredibly stupid and leave a path of destruction and mayhem behind wherever they tour. The new series will premiere in August on on Adult Swim, the adult-oriented television programming block on Cartoon Network.

Anyway, I heard the new song, it's alright. Still sounds very load/reload, but theres a nice solo in there, so at least it can't be a re-run of St.Anger. It's not Metallica without solos.

I don't actually mind Load/Reload, i know they're not quite the same as the thrashy albums that came before the black album, but you've got to admire them for making some form of musical progression. They're pushing for new sounds rather than resting on their laurels after 25 odd years, so as long as they're happy(and there's some bloody solos) I'm happy.

Apparently Linkin Park have 60-80 songs written, so not all will reach the album.

sorry to say i don't agree. i think it will be better than the balck album but i don't expect it to reach the ferocity and caliber of "Kill 'Em All" or "Justice". If the rest of the album shares the same vein as their first "New Song" then this will definitely be true. If they get more agressive, crisp and etc. then MAYBE they can pull off another Puppets....but like i said: doubtful.

It would be cool if they went back to doing solos and actually having a use for Kirk... when they put out St. Anger, it was kinda like "ok kirk we dont really need you cuz we arent having solos anymore but you can still hang around if you want to play rythym guitar behind another rythym guitar and have nothing that sticks out for you in the band" Kirk is really good at soloing and not having any solos is kinda like not using one of your band mates... Metallica have always faced flak so. Master of Puppets they had sold out. Andjustice... no one lked them. Load/Reload more aggro etc...

You forget that they do what they want because they like the music they write. And judging by the popularity loads of othe people do to. I do hope they release something which is worth putting out there, Lets be honest, nothing has been good since the "metallica (black) album" but arguably nothing has had the same effect as "Justice for all"! If this new album flops then it will do damage to the bands reputation and will suggest that they should have packed it in a long time ago which would be a shame as Metallica should be remembered as one of the greatest bands to eva grace the scene. It isnt about going back to the old methods and of course moving foward in the music business and evolution as a whole is a good thing however with other new bands gaining influence from the old why should Metallica have to change, im not saying that they should put out another Kill em All album but it would be nice to see these guys get back to their raw trash roots, bring back the instumentals, harmonies and solos which made them the band they are today, If it takes the album longer than anticipated to do this then it will be worth the wait. All that is left really is just the name and it is a shame what happened to tracks like "orion, one and For whom the bell tolls" we need more of that, not stuff which could be played on the music channels to rival Trivium and the other dross which is out there!!

First thing, thrash from Metallica isn't likely gonna happen anytime soon. That's just not their sound anymore. At KEA, it was just pure speed. Then RTL added some different things. MOP wasn't actually, truly a thrash record, especially not when compared to KEA or some of the Slayer records. From there on, really, it was just Metal with them. So, expect some good metal (Rubin will pull that out of them), but I'd highly doubt any thrash type things.

Second, why are we still ridiculing St. Anger. In my opinion, it wasn't a horrible record, but it wasn't up to par with their other stuff, either. Like I've said before, if anyone else would have released that record, it would have been a decent to good record. But the expectations from Metallica are just so high that anything short of Master is a disappointment to some people. That was a once in a life time record.

The new record will be good, but don't expect another Master of Puppets. Just don't knock it 'til you hear it, though.

I like all the stuff Metallica has come out with, but for me, what made Metallica, Metallica was those first 5 albums. Very thrash and all very legendary albums for the metal genre. I like they're other stuff, yeah. I think it's good music. But really not what Metallica is to me, and many other fans alike. I really hope they go back to they're roots. Thats what made them who they are known as in Metal history and that would be the best thing that we could see out of them.

St. Anger holds no promises for a new album. The problem with it was a very serious approach, but the rush to get the popularity back after nearly a decade off since ReLoad, and the recording job was terrible. After hearing the preview of the New Song it's good to hear they are using solos again, but the riffs do sound a little recycled. Maybe if Lars keeps his promise and we do have another 15 songs on our hands I can have a larger opinion on it but that is where I stand right now. And to anyone who still isn't a Metallica fan due to Napster, that's all bull. Though they are rich, the situation was still basically then going to work and not getting paid. And think of it this way, they also stuck up for underground bands who need the money. Metallica could beat Napster in court and get money back for all those bands being downloaded, but a band like Behemoth probably would not have stood a chance. Thank you Lars.
