Linkin Park Plan Quick New Album

As Linkin Park prepares for its upcoming North American tour, frontman Chester Bennington is predicting a much shorter turnaround for the group's follow-up to 2007's "Minutes to Midnight."

"We sparked a new kind of life into what we do during the writing of ('Midnight')," Bennington told Billboard.com. "We want to keep that going. I think we're in the mode, and I have a good feeling we're going to put another record out really quickly."

Bennington said Linkin Park will bring recording gear on the road to capture ideas that come up while they're on tour. In addition to the North American jaunt with Coheed & Cambria and Chiodos that kicks off February 12 in Omaha, Neb., the group plans to host another edition of its Projekt Revolution tour this summer; bands and dates are expected to be announced within the next couple of months.

"There was a long period of time between the release of 2003's 'Meteora' and 'Minutes to Midnight'," Bennington said. "Even though we did tour (for 'Meteora') for two years, we didn't start working on writing ('Midnight') until seven months after we stopped touring. So it seemed like a really, really long time to our fans and it seemed like a really, really long time to us. I don't see that happening again."

Bennington didn't want to hazard a guess as to what Linkin Park's fourth studio album will sound like, however. "I never anticipate what we're gonna do," he explained. "I find that overplanning a creative project usually means you're gonna screw it up, so I really don't focus on what we're gonna do. When a song comes, I'll write it. When a song comes to (vocalist/keyboardist/guitarist) Mike (Shinoda), he'll put an idea down. We just kind of roll with it spontaneously."

This is like the last band that will split up. I can see them going on for as long as The Rolling Stones. The relationships in the band are strong and their success is stronger. They are such a big band now. I like everything this band does, it sounds good, as for Minutes To Midnight, I think it was a good, solid album, a lot of thought and creativity went into it. I certainly hope they amp up the energy for the next album but I am surely looking forward to it!!!!

This is stupid. Mike said they took that long to release the album( from meteora to MTM) so they would not produce a "bad" album. If they make a new album now I wonder what their lame excuse would be this time

Hopefully Shinoda will rap a hell of a lot more on this one, it just didn't sound right with chester doing nearly all the vocals.

Well, considering what Chester said, in the sense of being "in the mode", I imagine the chances of a bad album are pretty slim. Like, it's one thing to tour for two years, and then instantly put out an album because you feel obligated. That leads to a bad album. But, they took their time with MTM. Now that they're coming off of that, and still in the creative headspace, more good material won't be that hard to come up with.

And i agree with their being more rap. its just not linkin park w/o rap

Please... spare us the agony of listening to another album!! Linkin Park started their downward spiral when they released Meteora. MTM was terrible! Either go back to the sound of Hybrid Theory or just stop making records!

I love this, I'm a huge LP fan and as far as I'm concerned, a new album is a new album. They had three HUGE hits off MTM and I thought it was a great album. Not as great as Meteora or Hybrid Theory but it still had some great songs. I do hope they speed it up some in this album, MTM had a few too many slow songs. I hated how long we had to wait for MTM after Meteora and I'm glad they're putting one out earlier. I'm sure it will have some great songs. I just don't want another album like Reanimation.. I thought that was awful. The originals were way better. I can't wait for this new album and I hope there is a good mix of Mike and Chester in the songs, Like in Bleed It Out and Faint. That's the sound of Linkin Park and I hope they keep it.

it just blows my mind how a band could go from being so awesome to so terrible. back in the day i was like, holy shit, hybrid theory is one of my favorite albums. this band could end up being great. and then they consistently got less-rock, more-pop, and just downright worse with each following album. some of the new shit almost sounds emo to me. too bad, kind of a shame considering that they could've been a great rock band.

I'm getting sick of people saying MTM sucks. I'm listening to it right now believe it or not. I'm a huge fan of LP and I'll admit that the new sound didn't strike me at 1st. I was actually a little disappointed with the album but as I listened to it more, the songs grew on me and now I think that some of their best songs are on that album. Just give MTM a f**king chance. I did.
And someone said that their newest single is shit, I don't know whether they mean Shadow of the Day or the very latest one Given Up but Given up is one of the best and Shadow of the Day just takes a few listens to get used to.

And 7 months seeming like a long time!? Look at Tool, who takes years off from touring and writing at a time, and comes out with great albums. Deciding to do something quick, will usually be its downfall.

WONDERFUL!
I'm so happy to hear these news!
I loved M2M, Meteora and Hybrid Theory. I've been a hardcore fan since 2003, and I have every song made by LP.
Songs from the Xero Tape, Hybrid Theory EP, demos before Hybrid Theory came out and more!
I really hope that they mix the new album, so there will be both songs like those from Hybrid Theory and Meteora AND songs like those from M2M.

i am pretty sure when they say "They" suck its an opinion..just like when they say "I think they suck"...you just have to infer that the person posting on their screen name is giving their opinion.

people have every right to have a hatred for a band..its when they bring that hatred onto people who like the band, thats when things turn into douchebaggery.

meteora was their last good cd...at theat was even good at that....Hybrid Theory was fantastic when i was 12 and is still at 20

i really hope that the new album will have the sound of Hybrid theory and Meteora. They really were perfect albums.

If they can recreate that sound, the heaviness and softness fused that got them famous in the first place, it'll be awesome.

Minutes to Midnight was disappointing. Too girly. If I hear Shadow of the Day one more time...

Hybrid Theory and Meteora were basically the same album. I haven't listened to MTM, but from the radio songs it seems like all they did was turn down the gain on the guitars.

Hybrid Theory was the album that got me into metal. Although Meteora had a few good songs, the band just died after Hybrid Theory. They need to get back to their roots. They were idiots for not putting QWERTY (Behind Your Lies) on MTM, they need more songs like that.

I don't understand why they kept the name Linkin Park because MTM is just not Linkin Park..
sure it's a good album if you like that stuff..

it's good... just isn't LP
LP used to be like the only band that I'd love to listen to every song over and over and over, I liked every song on the albums, collected all the stuff by them I could find.. all those demo versions, live versions, unreleased stuff, LPU stuff, main albums..
then MTM comes out..
ha.. that was killed, I actually fell asleep on this album when Shadow of The Day started playing.. sure they have some good upbeatish songs like No More Sorrow but that song isn't even that good anyway.. even Bleed It Out isn't so great.. and it's like the best song on there.

RIP LP

jerkoffjack wrote on 02/07/2008 - 04:21 pm / quote |
I thought MTM was a good recording for the band to get out of their system. It wasn't exactly their best, but it had some really good songs that showed their originality. They shouldn't rush their next CD.

chester is a decent singer and everything, but LP really needs to go back to the kind of music they recorded in Meteora and Hybrid Theory. I have both of the albums and they are great. imo minutes to midnight was their worst album yet and I hope this new one is A LOT better.

My opinion is that LP was great in their first two studio albums. I stopped liking them as much as i did before, but i was excited for the new album. It has good music, but it dissapointed me. To me, they sound like they're just trying to sell to a larger croud. I hope that a new album sounds more like what LP really is.

there was a huge gap between hybrid theory and meteora too... reanimation doesn't count as a new album... if they're gonna take that long on an album it should be like Tool-level technicality, but it wasn't... mtm was the most basic song-structures that they could have written in a fortnight... but it took them way longer. What does that say about their talent?

But.... chester is one of the greatest rock singers ever, and should be putting it to better use IMO.

i hear what you are saying, i think modern production techniques make everything sterile eg copying and pasting a riff is just not right. possibly as well since few people buy albums now they need to reduce their costs. there is also a lack of good albums rather than singles and fillers.

well anyone who hates a band will think along the same lines, that they should just disappear from the music business. so that doesnt really mean much considering how many times its said, unless you say it right to a fan of whatever band it is's face. which you've just done, to alot of people.

That doesn't mean we'll like it. I'm listening to Meteora as I type this. On Meteora and Hybrid Theory, EVERY. SINGLE. SONG was awesome. Or, at least i liked it. on M2M, only half of the songs are even... listenable. if that is a word.

Reading over these comments, I don't know whether to cry or laugh at the pathetic comments made by these "fans." Obviously you people don't understand the meaning of progression. If Linkin Park were to make another album like "Hybrid Theory" or "Meteora", then they'd be simply repeating themselves. A good artist, something which Linkin Park is, embraces change and tries to expand their sound. That's what they were doing in "Minutes to Midnight", they were expanding their sound.

As for those dumbasses who say that "Minutes to Midnight" was a commercial album designed to get them more fans, consider this: Assuming Linkin Park put out a typical nu metal album like their first two, they would be gaining a lot more cash. "Minutes to Midnight" was an experimental album, and because of that, they lost a lot of fans and didn't really gain many new ones either. If people believe "MTM" was a sellout album, then they obviously are too retarded to expand and develop their music taste. Dumb ****s.

No, but seriously, we don't need anymore crappy rock rap from them. They should just go away and never come back.

Anyone know if the next +44 album is going to feature an emo Mark Hoppus singing sad songs about Tom and about cutting his wrists?

well anyone who hates a band will think along the same lines, that they should just disappear from the music business. so that doesnt really mean much considering how many times its said, unless you say it right to a fan of whatever band it is's face. which you've just done, to alot of people.
Well, I couldn't really make sense of most of what you said but basically you said that anyone that hates a band would think like me. Truthfully, I don't "hate" any kind of music (except for country which needs to die) I think that all music (except for country) deserves it's due respect.

I don't like Linkin Park's style of music, I think it's more noise than anything but I do respect that they do have fans.

Minutes to Midnight was basically the American Idiot of Linkin Park's career. Just an overly popular attention grabber.

What I don't understand is that people get mad when someone says they don't like Linkin Park and they say it's unfair to say that but they curse Angels & Airwaves in the same breath and call Tom DeLonge a prick. Time to start practicing what we preach guys and girls.

I have to say that I didn't like Minutes to Midnight. Which is seriously a shame, because when I put it out of my mind, and focus on Hybrid Theory and Meteora, they're still one of my favorite bands. Those first two albums kicked major ass. Reanimation was also pretty sweet, for a remix album. Minutes to Midnight was respectable, because they tried something new, but I just really did not like the new sound. What I've Done and Bleed it Out were alright, the rest was just like, "oh... You should really make sure your guitarist can solo (or at least do something outside of drop-d bar chords and simple triplet arpeggiations) before you have him take the DJ's spot as lead instrument".

I still have faith though, because Linkin Park is a band that changes their sound all the time. I think the next album will be another very different album, and that means it might be really good.

But for now, last year saw 2 mostly white-colored albums that left a somewhat bad taste in the mouth, between MTM and the latest from Avenged Sevenfold. Except that Avenged Sevenfold grew on me really fast.

I reckon the best song on the album is No More Sorrow. I don't really listen to the album unless I wanna chill out and have some background music, but No More Sorrow kicks ass. If every song was in that same vein on the new album I would probably go out and actually buy it.

Mmmkay...You just totally crossed the line AND went off topic in the same sentence. You are a complete idiot.

I don't get why people who don't like the band even bother to click on the link? Nobody gives a shit if you think they are gay. A majority of people who are reading this article are Linkin Park fans, don't expect anyone to agree with absolutely everything you say.

There's no place for a +44/AVA comment in this article, but I will say one thing. If Mark Hoppus came from BLINK-182, how can you say he will be emo? He's from a band that sang about girls && jacking off? Really emo. Not.

And don't throw a word around when you don't know what it means.

But as for the new LP album, I'm really excited! They came to Australia last year && they were amazing, && I'd love to see them again soon. Minutes2Midnight was an awesome album, the sound is very different from anything I've ever heard before. Maybe thats why people keep bitching about it...

People may like it or not, that's how it is with everything that's popular.

In defence of LP I have to say that they've not been in it for the money with MtM because they delayed it serveral times and took 14 months to complete it. If they wanted the money they would've just released another nu-metal record made on a half month.

And LINKIN PARK IS NOT SAYING THEY WILL RUSH THE NEXT ALBUM! Fucking retards.

This just means they're not going to take a break on two years like last time. Fucking faggots, get your facts straight.

i don't understand how some of you people can say your fans of LP when you completely bag out this album. Just cause its not like their old stuff, its better, its something different and actually recognisable from the rest of the shit on the radio. everything else pretty much is the same crap over and over again where as at least LP have made their songs sound different this time. i agree with 'con job' its good they aint gunna make us wait again like last time.

But a quick question that please anyone answer for me. why the **** do people go and read up on, and then bag out bands they don't even like. for those who dislike LP then **** off and look at your own music.

Hmmm. Funny how both of those songs have been hits.

So then, we should be seeing you youself entering the charts sometime soon then, if Linkin Park's songs are so simple to come up with, and "anyone can write them".

lol even rihanna's 'umbrella' is a hit.britney spears had half a dozen hits, and whenever she releases a new album, one song from it is bound to be a hit.

just because a song is a hit doesnt mean that it's a great song.not at all.the greatest songs these days dont win grammy's or touch that billboard top 10 or whatever, because the greatest songs today dont sell. our society is one that doesn't have too many people who can comprehend beyond 'shut up when im talking to you' kinda lyrics.

as for myself entering the charts you look at,i agree,i probably wont, because i have no inclination to want to write any songs like linkin park.

May I please just add a few words here. Now I know everyone has their own opinion about everything. So with that haven been said and all. Here is mine. I believe Linkin Park is a great band. I know for a fact that alot would disagree on that. And that's kewl. But as a fan and all. I would love to see just ''Fans'' and this sight. Can't stop anyone from expressing there thoughts and opinions. But please don't get on this sight and start off how bad they sound. Or how awful they are. It's simple. Either you like the band. Or you don't. If Linkin Park want's to go for a new sound. Then more power to them. Okay. So they don't sound like Hybrid Theory or meteora. So what? Your not Linkin Park. Linkin Park is in charge of what they want to put out. I'm a loyal fan. I will always stick by there side. I love there new sound. So you don't like there newest album Minutes To Midnight. So don't listen to it. Is it that hard?.. And besides..Most bands can't even put out albums anymore. It's hard. But these guys. It's nothing new for them. I love that they want to explore new sounds. and see where it's gonna take the song. It makes it more interesting for them. And that to me' is something more then just writting a song. Who knows what really goes on with that. I'll stop right here. If anyone wants to charge at me. Go right ahead.
