Linkin Park: Short Wait For New Album

Mike Shinoda says fans won't have to wait too long for the next Linkin Park album.

The musician revealed the "Shadow Of The Day" group are constantly writing new material for their follow up to "A Thousand Suns" and as he has recently been busy writing the score for Indonesian film "The Raid", he concedes it could affect the sound of the group.

He said: "We are always writing. I'm not sure how my participation on The Raid might affect the next Linkin Park album . we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully, the wait won't be too long."

One way in which the new Linkin Park sound could be affected is by the lack of electric guitars used in the movie's soundtrack.

Mike told ArtistDirect.com: "One of the things that I decided to do early on was essentially abandon the use of electric guitars in this score. Guitars seemed to take it in a mookish, ostentatious direction, which is not the tone of this film. But there are moments when the score wanted to get super heavy, so I achieved it by making my own super-distorted percussive and melodic sounds. I also enlisted the help of Joe Trapanese, who was Daft Punk's scoring partner on 'Tron: Legacy'. He's from a composer / arranger background, and we played off each other's ideas really well."

If you read the story differently you could say, that Mike just told us... That he hopes they will going in to the studio soon cause the film affected the time they could have in the studio allready...

Personally I hope there will be guitars on the new album... I don't think they would leave them out...

This is great news. I'm stoked for a new album from the band that hasn't rehashed themselves since Meteora. If I want to hear Hybrid Theory, I'll put it on. I don't need seven albums exactly like it.

I'm excited. Almost sounds like they're going to venture into dubstep territory. Which is fine with me. Because I can accept change. I grew up with this band, I've seen the change happen in real time. Which, in my opinion, is way better than watching a band in real time make the same album over and over and over again. That's ****ing boring.

Just because it doesn't have guitar in it, that doesn't mean it isn't music. Pretty interested in what they come up with next, a lot of A Thousand Suns was really cool.

Eager to see how the their next record pans out. I thought ATS was a really diverse record, and was glad to see LP experimenting. I think too many fans live in the past, and compare new releases with past albums that give them nostalgia - rather than listening to the record for what it is.

Oh, and there was guitar in ATS, in almost every track too. Some of you should get your hearing checked.

The interludes fit in really well with the record, though. It's not about listening to individual songs, it's about listening to the album in its entirety as it tells a story.

When you next have time to spare, lay back and listen to it from start to finish without interruption or distraction.

I've come to the realization that if LP puts it out, I'm getting it. A Thousand Suns was amazing in some aspects. I had to focus on the exploration of music and sound they went through on the album, and it took a few listens to truly appreciate, but overall I love it, it's very inspirational to my own sound. As for the new album, who knows what we'll get...

I personally thought ATS was pretty good, defintely different, had some Killer tracks on it: When they come for me, Wretches and Kings, Blackout.
But I can see why the 'hardcore' fans don't like anything after meteora...
Then again, it's what seperates the open from the closed minded.
