Metallica In-Store Set For 'Record Store Day'

As part of the upcoming "Record Store Day" (April 19), Metallica will make its first in-store appearance in nearly a decade.

The band will participate in an signing and meet-and-greet at Rasputin Music's Mountain View store, near San Francisco.

In addition to promoting the 180-gram vinyl re-release of the band's classic albums, "Kill 'Em All," and "Ride the Lightning," Metallica's appearance is meant to bolster the indie record store community, which is launching their first ever "Record Store Day."

Spearheaded by the Alliance of Independent Media Stores, Coalition of Independent Music Stores, Music Monitor Network, Newbury Comics and Value Music Group of Indie Stores, "Record Store Day" will feature special events at all participating stores, which will provide customers with goodie bags filled with new formats, new albums and information on music, theatrical, comic book and gaming releases.

Thanks for the info to Billboard.com.

oh my god! metallica at an indie record store! holy crap, that's so ironic... hope everyone can feel the sarcasm. i'm not sure if anyone knew but indie record stores sell MAJOR LABEL records just like Best Buy, FYE, etc. Newbury Comics is the best record store ever created, hands down.

I will be sure to illegally download this album as soon as it comes out, in as much as an illegal way as possible. Possibly thepiratebay.

Thanks Metallica for suing Napster so that torrent sites started and became popular, so I can download your whole albums instead of individual songs at a time!

Gimmicks, gimmicks and more gimmicks. They made us buy two double albums, one full of covers where they absolutely massacred classic tracks (from Queen to Thin Lizzy, from Diamondhead to Mercyful Fate) and the other old songs with an orchestra(bloody mess). Now the new album is coming up and preparations have already started.....

I hate people who say that they are sell outs! They are not, theyve been making albums they way they want to make them, if you listen to St Anger its one of there most angry album with the most message behind because of what was happening to them at the time, and i know that metallica is not the first band to write about the current situation. And theyve never put out the same album twice (excluding Load and Reload because they originally were supposed to be a double disc) i think that bands that put out the same album every time are doing an injustice to theyre fans by just copying what they did last time, so dont hate on metallica for being human and actually growing with theyre music, and because they are successful, i dont see them as "sell outs" and never will

I don't think the term "sold out" is appropriate with Metallica. I just think they get bored easily and look to do what any true artist does: try new things. Granted, the path they chose turned out to be commercial at times, but I don't think the band -- especially James (who is really the artistic leader) is motivated by money to the extent of writing music he doesn't belive in. The fact that they aren't the same band as the Kill Em' All days disturbs people, but what are you supposed to do when you don't want to make music like that anymore? You try new things. And that's all Metallica has done. So, it's not selling out. They've just tried to grow and develop as artists and musicians -- succeeding and failing along the way.

i dont really think they sold out, and if they did, i dont give a shit. the thing i hate is that they went from progressive riffing and blast beats to slow dumbed down rock and never looked back. yea they wanted to try new things and thats their decision, but i just think the overall music quality got worse. And the napster thing really pissed me off. they got big from the underground tape trade and loyal to the bone fans and then they decide to "stick uP" for big douchey record companies. It just goes to show that theyre not on the same page as their fans anymore.

no we call them sellouts because they abandoned their style and tried to write a record which sounded almost nothing like them because it fitted in with what was popular at the time. They were pretty much the dogs bollucks of metal when master of puppets was released and if not then they defnitely were by the time the black album was released and they weren't sellouts by then.

Personally I think metallica can do what they like, not because I'm some super-fan with my head up lars' arse...but because no matter what they've done that we dont like, we can't argue with what they did do for the metal scene back in the 80s with thrash, along with the big 4.

actually id say they sold out with load/reload...st anger wasn't a sellout record because it was them recording what they wanted to record at the time (in other words; st anger is a fvck you album to all the shit they went through w/ napster, jason newstead, james's rehab, and whatever else was pissing them off at that time)

Because even fans of metallica wonrt all think Kirk Hammett is the best so shove it and go find somewhere else to post a dumb comment.
Anyways i think metallica should be reaching out to their fans a little more and hopefully the new album is as good as early metallica.

Every time a new article comes out related to Metallica, people are to damn immature to just read the article. Someone always screams "Sellouts" starting a massive argument. They play what they want to play. People say the Black Album was a major turning point. It was just a change in style. You try playing the same style of music for as long as they have, and see that you don't get bored. I'm a huge Metallica fan, and I'm excited to see this album.

dude, hammett is skilled, but the only guitarist more overrated is johnny ramone. i can use a wah better than him, and he didnt do any of mettalica's best solos (master of puppets was done by hetfield, so was " nothing else matters") plus, he claimed in an interview that he doesn't have the balls to keep his solo's in st. anger. please, i love mettalica but seriously.

i think you're the one that needs to get a life marlboro medium (have fun with lung cancer by the way).

anyway to Sneaky11. Kirk is a good guitarist, not great, and definatly not the best. If you like him the most than that is your opinion. but there are many people that can do EVERYTHING he does but better plus many more things. when pantera would cover metallica songs in the 80s. Dimebag Darrell would nail Kirks solos NOTE FOR NOTE. and if you hear some of the solos he was doing with pantera, theres no way Kirk could do that kind of stuff. Pretty much all of megadeths guitarists were better than him. And dont even get me started on Jimi Hendrix. so yea that would explain all the *******s flaming you even though you didnt mean anything by it.

I dont understand why people are like "i hate metallica they suck now" i dont like their 1990+ stuff either but you cant deny the greatness that was 80s metallica. And they are still a great live band and will still play their old songs at shows. Id go to a show if they came my way.

I will agree they need to connect with their fans more. With all the napster stuff it really shows they are not on the same page with their fans. Im mostly talking about Lars (or Lar$) Kirk and James are still alright with the fans but they used to be really close to their fans back in the 80s and they just need to reach out to them more.

I'm quite sure it will be remastered. Goes against Lars' criticism of Dave Mustaine's remasters of all Megadeth's older albums.

+ 100 on most of the kirk comemnts he is good but not amazing... but you got to understand that to be a good guitarist you dont need to be able to fly up and down the fret board with ease or play 32 notes at 100bpm or what ever just writing good material is the starting point and ALWAYS the finishing point... and tbh kirk makes some great solos and he does play very well on the other side of things but if ure gunna say he sucks because 3 million people can out shread him with there teath then thats not really a good reason to put him down, ye like dave mustane said "he makes good use of the talant he has" witch some people finde it as a attack on him i see it as a comploment from mustane...

remember back to that first megadeth concert...
what was that the crowd was chanting over and over...
oh yea; "kirk sucks! kirk sucks! kirk sucks!"

"yea, i think he does to!"

dave!dave!dave!dave!

Dave admitted in the SKOM DVD that everyone was making fun of him at how much better Kirk is than him and how feels soooo sad about it. I also agree, Kirk's solos are kickass, anybody can play fast, Kirk puts more feeling into them which + much better.

I didn't think St. Anger was that bad. Sure it wasn't Master of Puppets, but it had some good songs.

BITCHES

No, I don't think because they made a video for One they sold out, in fact I think One is one of the best songs (even though I wasn't too wild about And Justice). I think when they came out anti-napster right as they were "changing their music" for the mainstream (i.e. the black album) they sold out. Don't get me wrong, I think the band is incredibly talented and were great back in the day.

Are people seriously waiting for this album? I could just imagine some dude listening to St. Anger and saying, "man, I could go for some more of this!"

But really, I think it's pretty cool they're playing at an indie store. I'm not a fan, but I'd rather see people getting their music at independent shops than going to Best Buy or wherever. They don't need the money anyway.

Danzig767, I love Metallica and have since I was a kid, but I'd have to disagree. They may not be sellouts in the conventional sense, but they are sellouts in the fact that their business practices no longer represent what their music has always embodied. This is mostly due to the fact that Lars Ulrich has become such a tool. It is good of them to do this at an Indie shop, though. Maybe they're learning to step off of their mighty pedestal.

He said 'supposedly' sold out. I agree however. It takes balls to make that sorta change. It'd be selling out to not have done that. I mean, 'St Anger' was a step in a different direction, a failed one yes but still an attempt. I'm pretty sure the guys knew that it might not do so well with enthusiasts because of the lack of technicality and diversity in the songs but they tried anyway. Hell, they could've gone old school but they knew that'd sell well. So I think the only real sell outs are people who play it safe.

no we call them sellouts because they abandoned their style and tried to write a record which sounded almost nothing like them because it fitted in with what was popular at the time.

So i guess if you make a band... and start playing a genre...that 20 years down the road if you wanna do something slightly different your a sell out?..as far for st.anger..i don't see how it fitted in with whats popular at the time. if you said it about say finger ll for example they went right down the hole to the 13 yr old pop/rock much music scene. A band can play whatever they want, but selling out is something metallica never did....i think people just like calling them sell outs just to stir shit up basically, and because an album wasn't totally the style you like, you say sell out....i doubt any of you would go face to face to each member and say you suck your a sell out...at least not if your a fan and your capable of showing any type of respect for music which a lot of people seem not to.

You little f u c k i ng fagot poser your just saying they sold out because everyone elses says the same thing get a life you pussy ass poser and don't ever claim to even like Metallica.whoa dickhead...i personally dont think that metallica did sell out on st anger, im just sayin what the majority of ppl that i know say, so back the f u c k off...metallica is my favorite band of all time and i like all of their stuff but st. anger was definatley a dissapointment seeing how hetfield finally comes back from rehab, you'd think the album would impress alot of ppl, but it didnt and thats why ppl say they sold out...SO F U C K YOU!!!
First of all learn how to spell you illiterate f u c k and second of all Metallica isn't trying to impress a little fagot poser like yourself there doing whatever the fu c k they wanna do cause they can they don't need to conform to your tastes they play what they want.

indie usually = gay and/or sucks.....thats why its still underground. Sure...keep telling yourselves that indie and underground are all about the music and the best music in the world.....but its underrated for a reason.....cause it usually sucks

It's an INDEPENDANT record store, not for indie music you ignorant jackass.

Magero...stop crying. the only way i think you could get any more emo is if you started a symphonic/progressive metal project called "Under A Weeping Moon"....now that would be emo, but I know your more astute than that.

It is all very well saying that Metallica are major and it's silly for them to promote an indie record store. but 'tallica wern't always famous.

More to the point stop pissing about with record stores and go on tour.

holy shit, everytime there is a tallica artical people always flip on them for selling out on st anger because it was the type of music from that time...when st. anger came out, i never ONCE...EVER...heard n e thing from st. anger be played on radio/much music w/e, and who ever says they sold out on load/reload can f u c k right off cuz if u listened to the songs you'd no that they songs on those albums are about they ****ed up things they were going through (like st. anger)...listen to Mama Said...or Until It Sleeps...or The God That Failed...those are songs about james' parents and how ****ed up his childhood was because of his religeon and his way of life, they are not sell-outs...these songs are golden...these albums are golden, metallica are GODS, Kirk is good, but i think James is better compared to kirk. James is more creative and has better riffs, excluding enter sandman (kirk's FIRST riff with metallica), i like james' solos a bit better too.
