Metallica needs to have some more widdley widdley leads.

They should also replace Lars Ulrich with a drum machine. They're slightly less fat and angry.

True that. Get over it.

On another note, I wonder what the website will contain specifically. Looks like a good idea.

And to people who say replace Lars, just note, no Lars, no Metallica - Sad But True (No pun intended)

it's kind of like they're doing everything but releasing the album. for instance: playing shows in other countries, releasing older albums on vinyl again, and creating random metallica websites. maybe they should just concentrate all of their efforts on finishing the damn album.

+1 lol

im so seeing them at reading. saw them at wembley stadium with machine head and it was awesome.

the main thing is amy lee is not collaborating with them to do a new song
so overall - nothing else matters. (had to be done)

If they put half the effort into making music that they did into self-promotion and impossible promises to sound like a version of themselves they buried long ago, they'd probably have a new album out already, and in all likelihood, it wouldn't sound like crap. Unfortunately, that's what this one is likely to be. Even a mediocre offering would be an improvement for these guys.

so? get over it *******s this is A NEW metallica album they didnt go back to the 80's its there new effort they changed musicly ... And are you idiots so exclusively involved in your metal-loving friend circles that you think the vast majority of people know what the HELL "thrash" is?

If a band wants to sell out they go with a Blink 182 or Justin Timberlake sound, not a thrash record

Personally, I think it's rather sad that the band has resorted to asking themselves what the "popular them of the 80's" would do... Talk about having no ambition to make new music. A lot of people don't like rush since the break from full blown prog, but at least they developed and actually try to bring something NEW to the music community. Metallica has lost their hold on their audience because they are trying to figure out what people want to listen to; no truly musical band has ever gotten away with that (I say truly musical because "pop" groups get away with it all the time because their target audience is a little less interested in music than I would say most metallica fans are). Metallica needs to go back the way they were in the 80's in the sense that they need to stop trying to please people and please themselves. This is all very evident from the fact that the band can't even work together without a therapist. If it's that hard of a job, stop trying to make money and be famous and loved: make music.

ROFL I think that about covers it. Hopefully they would replace him with a drum machine whose snare doesn't sound like a friggin' piece of stainless steel cookware. I swear his snare drum sounded like a frying pan or something in St. Anger. That was just like the icing on the cake for my feelings about that album though... Cheers! *tips glass* to the old days!

There's a vid on youtube of a 'tallica show and Lars has a little jam session with Nicko who totally owns him...they do the intro to Run To The Hills and i swear it's the worst sounding cover i've ever heard, i don't know if James and Kirk were drunk or what but it was horrible.

Aside from that i think 'tallica should have called it quits after the Justice album.

3. im ready for disappointment

unsure how i feel about this...do they think just by asking themselves WWMD in 1985 that they are going to come out with a great album? and isn't a band supposed to progress with their sound, not revert to a previous time just because it's what other people want to hear. in case anyone here hasn't heard it before, metallica has sold out.

Im glad to read its coming out this year. And all this St. Anger bashing is old! Yes the production quality was shit, but most of the songs were "old" Metallica. Just look at the song "St. Anger" alot of it is close to "Dyers Eve". I know I will get flamed and called a retard, but whatever, I listen to the music not everyone else's whining. Im a little sad they are going "back" to the 80's stuff, we have 4 albums that are from that era and all sound the same, I love it, but change was needed. I couldnt stand just playing Kill em' all-And justice for all type metal my whole life, it would be to repetativr.

Granted they are Metallica and any news of them is going to generate its own hype, but there is no possible way at all this album will live up to expectations on the ever-cynical realm of the Internet. According to the Internet, every band that has ever existed sucks, so by extension this album will too.

It is sad to see it come but I think Meatllica has evolved, or better yet devolved into a stagnant band. They tried to experiment with a new sound with the last few records and have lost more fans than they have made. I don’t think listening to “Ride the Lightning” and “Master of Puppets” is going to make them write a killer album. They are not in the same mind set they were when they wrote those albums. They sold out and aren’t in it for the music anymore. They are just another spoke in the wheel of the music industry that is content with sucking the public dry. $100+ for a show and 13+ for a CD, I’m done with them. Oh I’ll get the new album but I won’t be buying it.

I concur. Whilst she does have an amazing voice and I used to like her, the way she treated her ex boyfriend Shaun was just shameful. Not to mention her little princess outbursts and the kicking-out of bandmates for no good reason.

On topic, I desperately clicked on the link thinking I'd get to hear some new stuff from Metallica - before I actually read that it's being set-up ready for March. Something to look forward too though, I guess.

But to whoever it was that compared this to Chinese Democracy, thanks for making me laugh. There's only one Chinese Democracy. And there will only ever be one.

Cliff was scary good and did totally take Metallica to a whole new and different level, Cliff really made Metallica the best when he was with them. Don't forget the Metallica is the number 'one' metal band, the opinions expressed by you guys is all in the 'eye of the beholder'. St. Anger happened to pull the 'shortest straw' but it was still a good album. 'Mama said' that it was 'all within my hands' so I decided to write this. Maybe St. Anger was 'the thing that should not be' but Metallica are no 'disposable heroes'. We should 'ride the lightning' of which is 'tallica, 'turn the page' and never 'hit the lights'.

What's amazing to me is all of the Metallica fanboys on here who sit here and defend St. Anger. At least some of us know true music and true Metallica. Maybe when the fanboys hit puberty they can face reality like the rest of us and realize that Metallica hasn't had a good album since Justice. The people putting Metallica over Megadeth is rediculous too..at least Megadeth bounced back and kicked ass after making a bad album (Risk). Also people getting so impatient for the new album, who the hell shit in your cereal?

Too bad "your mom" jokes are old and stale. Seems like you have the personality of an eight year old. You're talking about relevance when your post just now had nothing to do with anything important.

and anyway, the guys like, 40... age catches up with you in the end

get over it *****s this is A NEW metallica album they didnt go back to the 80's its there new effort they changed musicly ... OBVIOUSLY... damn listen to st. anger they are going to release whatever they damn well please to... its going to sound like metallica ... even if its st. anger ITS STILL METALLICA

Thank you, alot of people still have to realise that Metallica don't give a shit what they think. They will release what they want and it WILL sell alot of records.

That's just how it is.

NO CORRECTION there is no chinese democracy and there never will be one...

so? I dont understand why its such a big deal if a band becomes a bunch of "sell outs" as long as they're still making good music. as long as this is a thrash album, Metallica being true to their word I dont care if they're just doing it to catar to what ppl like. In one sense bands are made famous by their fans, and now Metallica is giving the fans what they've been waiting and wanting for for approx a decade

And are you idiots so exclusively involved in your metal-loving friend circles that you think the vast majority of people know what the HELL "thrash" is?

If a band wants to sell out they go with a Blink 182 or Justin Timberlake sound, not a thrash record

they already "sold out" and if they are going back to thrash, they are returning to their roots

You guys act as if "selling out" is a bad thing. Bands are supposed to make music that their fans enjoy. They're expected to break out of the box but also are expected to stay true to their origins, as that's what made them huge (famous).
