Metallica Name New Album

Metallica garnered much anticipation with a website tease of their upcoming albums title. From June 9th to June 14th, Metallica's website had been releasing a new photo giving more and more letters of their album's name, though the title of the news story only read "???" Finally, on the 14th, the last of the photos was released giving the full name of their 9th studio album to date: Death Magnetic.

There were mixed receptions among fans on the message boards regarding the name of the album. Some consider it too close to Dave Mustaine's band Megadeth, who of course was formerly a member of Metallica in their early days. Other fans simply think that the name sounds better the other way: Magnetic Death. Then there are those who love the name and the way it was presented.

Regardless of the opinions of the album title, general consensus was reached among the fans about the small movie clip that accompanied the title release. The clip showed the pictures released on the website in succession (pretty boring, movie-wise), but the real draw was a riff from one of the new songs. Fans rejoice! The reception of the riff was much more positively one-sided, as it reminded most of Metallica's ...And Justice For All.

The new album is due out in September.

Obviously we are all going to disagree with how cool the album title is or how lame we think it is. I for one think it isn't their best (like 'Master of Puppets'), but it works. Let's face it, Metallica could name their album pretty much anything and people would still buy it. What's really important is the music on the album. If you've heard any of the riffs off of Mission Metallica you will be as confident about this album as I am. It's probably going to kick major ass.

When you come to think of it, Kill 'en All and Ride The Lightning sounds pretty silly today, but when it comes out in the 80' it was cool! All you guys have to think of, is that, in my honest opinion, the first time you heard "Master of Puppets" as an album title,it probably didn't grow on you that much unless you'd heard the songs or someone saying it.
It'll be the same with this, it is actually a lot like old Metallica album titles in it's meaning.

And they're getting better, after the self-titled album (maybe because they had no ideas?) they weren't too great, load , then reload, not that creative.
St.Anger, Pretty cool title, described the album well, very angry album. Hopefully the name "Death Magnetic" should mean some very awesome songs.

In my opinion, they should keep one of their tracks with it's working title, "Glass Cow" haha, classic.

It's kind of a let down, although it's better than when I mistakenly read just now "Death Magnet".... That would have been much worse....

See, my problem is it just doesn't fit with the rest of the album names.... It's alright I guess, but until the music speaks for itself, I'm not going to take stabs at it, nor give it kudos.

As long as the album cover doesn't look like the photo in this article, I can live with it.

Metallica: the name isn't perfect, but not much in life is anymore. Just make your music as close to perfect as you can and we'll rock as one.

IMO their last GOOD album came out 22 years ago...if you consider black one of their good ones then they havent come out with a good one in 17 years. the band will fail agian. if a band has had a failing streak this long, what makes you think all of the sudden, after about 20 years of suckage something good will happen?

Honestly, they could've used a better word than "death." Almost everything sounds better: Dead Magnetic, Kill Magnetic, Die Magnetic... Personally, Dead Magnetic sounds much, much better on the tongue to me. Or even just a simple comma in the name: Death, Magnetic. Even that seems a bit better.

I agree that the name sounds cheesy, and I'm hoping that this just becomes a name of a single (because I'm sure Metallica is gaging the reaction) instead of the album. The band hasn't officially said this is the album name, but it's obvious that it was intended to be.

The name is very lame and i bet i'am not going to like the vocals because we all know that james cant sing like in the old days (without the growl). I hope that the lyrics arent lame and that the guitar stuff is interesting enough to play. This album will be mediocre because they are trying to hard to capture that sound from the old days but they just cant do it anymore.

I like the name personally...and I don't know wether those people who were saying they wished Lars had replaced Cliff, that ain't cool. I loved Cliff, he is one of my heroes but c'mon. Think of how it would've affected James, his best friend, think of all of it.

Anywho, album name sounds cool, riff sounds a bit meh though I must admit, it didn't keep me wanting more sort of thing. I hope Metallica finally pull something good though, metal on!

I like the name. Sure, it's cheesy but none of Metallica's albums have had great names in my opinion.
That riff was alright I guess but nothing exceptional, however, I do believe that this album will be at least good. Maybe not great but I'm ambitious about it and I don't think that they'd bother releasing something they know wont be liked.
And to those saying that it sounds like a Megadeth title: It's the people like you who are ruining music by putting boundaries and creative barriers up for bands and being ignorant to what music is actually about.
