Metallica Ready DVD Collection

Metallica are set to release new DVD "2 Of One", featuring all of their promotional videos.

The collection, previously only available on VHS, will now come with extras including the video for "Mama Said", which never aired in North America, the "theatrical version" of "The Unforgiven" and a trailer for the now infamous "Some Kind Of Monster" film. All the audio has been re-mixed in 5.1 surround sound.

The DVD is set for December 5 North American release.

I disagree, i think st anger very much came from the heart. I have a magazine (guitar one) i think in which they interview metallica about st anger. Hetfield checked into rehab, Newsted left and they felt they were stagnating. Bob Rock (The Producer) said that he would not do the album with them if they were going to work the way the always do. Thats why they recorded the parts live - to capture spirit (and the AWESOME FUCKING INSANE tightness that is metallica). I think it was a cathartic album by trying something different. We'll see if it worked when the new one comes

They've worked with some top notch directors from Load to before St. Anger. I can't remember seeing any of the st. Anger vids except for the title track though (and the video for that one didn't stand out too much). So yeah, that's a rather nice collection.

ok, first of all, thrash and thrash bands are in a way influenced by punk. take a look at garage inc., the bands who originally did those songs (well most of them) were punk bands.

and second, trivium is a good band, and they are all musically talented. i know its kinda lame that trivium wants to be just like metallica, but you can't blame them for liking metallica A LOT. i'm not dissapointed that matt heafy stopped doing screaming vocals, he even said he realized it isn't what he wanted his music to sound like, but... it sounds like he's trying to sound EXACTLY like james hetfield, which is kinda unoriginal. but, trivium does have good music, and they are one of the few bands today that actually have solos in every song.

but anyway, yeah, i'll probably buy the dvd as soon as i see it.

Yep, I also liked St. Anger. It was my first Metallica album. I really don't care if the new album is thrashy though.

A lot of people don't pick up on the fact that if you don't change every album up a bit, it's going to get a bit reprtitive. Each album has been different. If you listen to a song from AJFA, I'll pretty much bet that you'll be able to tell what album the song is from just by listening to it. That's a good thing though. They've expanded as musicians.

I mean, lets say Metallica today, have outdone the works of say Black Sabbath or Motorhead (two of their influences), both in the sence of popularity, number of record sales and fanbase. But never have they ever said anything to disrespect their influences (now they are good lads, but even in the 'alcoholica' days). I mean, has anyone missed the RnR Hall of Fame induction of Sabbath, by Metallica?

About shredding ill say, its a thing of the 80's populerized by guys like EVH, Rhodes, Yngwie etc. BUT... the musical style of shredding isnt really emotion provoking (exp. Steve Vai's For the Love of God, IMO)but yeah, overuseage of it can be really annoying. For eg. IMO i think Yngwie's stuff is really annoying coz he overshreds. if shredding was the total thing, then Michaelangelo Batio woulda been the greatest guitarist. And just coz kirk doesnt shred nowadays, doesnt mean he cant do it. and its good that he doesnt (he doesnt like traditional guitar solos BTW). and yea, i like seeing him overuse his Crybaby than seeing him play a shredding solo.

Led zep, you are right in saying that trivium are far from metallica in terms of musicianship. In my original post, I stated that Trivium are better TECHNICAL guitarists. I never said they were better musicians. Personally, I feel that no band will be able to emulate metallicas success. In terms of guitar playing on the whole (both musicianship and technical ability), Metallica absolulutely kicked (past tense) triviums collective asses. You are right, technical ability doesn't really mean someone can be a great guitarist (like malmsteen, at least Monster of rock actually agrees with me on something!). But all this, hating on Trivium is unnecessary. Heafy stated that he whats to be bigger than his influence. I don't think this is disrespectful at all, and I don't think he meant it in the way that you both took it. In a band, I'm sure your always aiming for the top. And in The crusades sleeve heafy and all the band openly thank Metallica (and Maiden too). Sure, maybe Heafy's ego is becoming a bit too big but I don't think he openly set out to disrespect the people who basically taught him everything he knows on guitar. I remember reading about how he used to play along to MoP obsessively as a teenager. Also, the media often has a thing for taking people out of context. I don't think he meant it in a bad way.

I really don't have the energy to start arguing with you guys (again). We each have our own opinions, whether mine disrespects the seemingly hardcore of metallica fans is my problem.

well, i still have one point to get across: i stated, i think in ALL of my posts in fact, that i'm not bashing on trivium, nor stating my opinion as fact. i don't know if you get guitarworld magazine, but in there he states, pretty much vebatm: "we have one goal, and that's to be the next metallica," and that statement didn't get to me so much until everybody who read that or got wind of that was like "oh yea, trivium's the next metallica... blahblah" i just figure, that if you're a big band, and you state that in the world's most popular guitarists' magazine, you should either realize (if you don't mean it seriously) that people are gonna take it seriously, people are gonna be influenced by your statements, and people are goin to grow onto your opinions, especially if you're as popular as trivium. on the other hand, if you do mean it seriously, then that, for obvious reasons, sucks. the way i see it, either they weren't very serious, but are too ignorant to realize how many people are gonna latch on to that idea, and too ignorant to realize how pissed they themselves would be of some other band said the exact same thing. or, they were serious, and tried to get that idea into peoples' heads, which is inevitable if you state something like that in such a huge magazine. whether you really mean it or don't. if they're at all intelligent, they must have known what they were saying, i mean, it's not hard to comprehend the fact that you gotta be careful with what you say to the media. much less, he seems to be trying to sound like hetfield, look like hetfield, even jam on stage like him. i think trivium delibritely said that. maybe i'm givin them too much credit, but i'm sure they have some intelligence, and some idea of how far words can go, much less in such a huge magazine. so either he's stupid to say that, or that's exactly what he meant for his words to get across to the reader.

I don't know, I guess we'll never know, either way whether its his ignorance, naivety or whatever. A lot of young bands have stated that they want to be as big as metallica. Theres an issue of Total guitar where BFMV openly state that they want to be as big as metallica as well. I think they've actually said that in many magazines, to my knowledge. You have a point though. Anyone who openly says stuff like that runs the risk of backlash from the media and the fans. I admire that trait though, that Heafy has. He says it like its gonna happen, its determination. I'm sure he has a lot of intelligence. What he hoped to gain by saying that is beyond my understanding though.
