Metallica Vinyl Reissues Coming Soon

Metallica's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"While we're finishing up the new album, we told the dudes at the record company we thought it might be cool to dust off the old tapes and get all retro with some vinyl re-releases... First up are the first two albums (duh!?), 'Kill 'Em All' and 'Ride the Lightning', coming out on April 15 in North America and pretty fucking close to that in the rest of the world.

"There will be two versions...one like the original on a single disc spinning at 33 1/3, the other a two disc, 180-gram vinyl, 45 rpm package all in a double gatefold. The music was half speed mastered from the original analog tapes at Mobile Fidelity to bring you audiophile quality. Both versions will be available in the online store here and over at MetClub.

"Oh, and in case you were wondering, 'Master' and 'Justice' will obviously be next and should be coming out on vinyl in June."

Tour dates are below:

05/28 - Chorzow, Poland - Slaski Stadium
05/30 - Landgraaf, Netherlands - Pinkpop
05/31 - Madrid, Spain - Electric Weekend
06/03 - Prague, Czech Republic - Slavia Stadium
06/05 - Lisbon, Portugal - Rock In Rio Lisboa
06/07 - Nürburgring, Germany - Rock Am Ring
06/08 - Nürnberg, Germany - Rock Im Park
06/13 - Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo
07/16 - Bergen, Norway - Koengen
07/18 - St. Petersburg, Russia - SKK Hall
07/22 - Bologna, Italy - Parco Nord
07/25 - Sofia, Bulgaria - Vassil Levski Stadium
08/17 - Wil/Jonschwil, Switzerland - Degenaupark

Yeha ...

i think theyve finished the album, why should they went to the label and told them to produce the vinyls?
i hope they also told their dudes at the record company to finish the album !

yeah, i think so. by now they've finished the new record. since they keep saying that new materials are somewhat similar to these old collectanea, i guess they figured it's necessary to catch more attention to the previous records. ( im sure its already got enough amount of "attention" )

they should reissue a vinyl version of Kill 'Em ll with the original title "Metal Up Your Ass" complete with different cover artwork and packaging.

If they actually released Metal Up Your Ass on vinyl I'd get it in a heartbeat!

dude i don't think they're expecting a big return on this....it's just ****in sweet that they're doing it. it ain't hard to find a record player, i bought one at st. vinnie's for like 20 bucks. if you actually have good speakers for it the sound quality is great. stop being little pessimists....."vinyl, what's the point of that?"...come on dude, it's better than nothing.

What are you talking about? You can get a good vinyl player at target or wallmart. Records are getting popular again as of lately, most of my friends are going out and buying old records to listen to, it's not rare.

they're probably just releasing the vinyls as a collectors item, and alot of people swear that vinyl has the best sound quality. i think i can count on one hand the amount of "records" (real records, that is) i've heard, but they sound just the same as CD's, so long as you have decent to good quality speakers. and plus, theres something to be said about having metallica on vinyl, i have a 45 of rage's bulls on parade. my girlfriend has a sublime record on her wall, it's got the 40oz. album art on it. what was i saying?.....oh yea, collectors items....yea thats it

Because some people (like me) actually enjoy listening to music on vinyl. I've been looking for a copy of Ride the Lightning for a long time actually.

Not to mention you could also buy the originals for probably $3 bucks a pop....

And yes, I enjoy vinyl too. It's also been proven vinyl is a truer reproduction of the original sound, and has a higher sound quality.

Actually, vinyl is a group of polymers (plastics). The molecular structure is carbon centric and hydrogen to form polymer chains. Interestingly, alcohol and fart are types of vinyl.

it still doesn't change the fact that ur a jackass.

These albums were programmed and conceived with Vinyl LP's in mind. Vinyl has two sides and the tracklisting would reflect this. You'd finish side 1 and go friggin hell that was awesome and flip over. For one the listener involvement is so much greater with vinyl. Secondly, to my ears they do sound better (with a good system). Lastly, it's much easier to roll a spliff on a vinyl lp cover than it is on an Ipod!
I can't wait for them to come out!

The only reason I don't like Vinyl Records is that they wear with age, and I can't easily transport the music (i.e. in the car, while walking) even though I do know of cars that had players installed in them (but on a bumpy road, that's not a good thing). I'm pretty sure my parents have all the originals somewhere, XD.

I wouldn't buy these re-release records you can get the real things for 3-5 bucks! Stores will probably sell these for 15. I think it's just another idea to get money. I wish metallica didn't go so mainstream. It's good to get attention and popularity but cutting their hair, wearing tuxedos, and playing to get money is just going too far. vinyls are those black discs that you need the turntable with the needle thing to play. before cds were all over the place, vinyl wwas the way you distribute music. real old tech stuff, but hey its nostalgic.

It's a sad, sad day. Are you kidding me?
Ok, before Ipods and MP3 players, before CDs, and I think before and during audio casette's time (I hope you know what that is), were vinyl records. A record player, with the needle and all, played vinyl records.

there must be some hardcore collectors out there if they expect to pull in money

i rather use vinyl over cds. vinyl has more of the raw sound than the over digital enchance cd.

i've got the first 4 metallica albums on vinyl with the kill'em all featuring am i evil and blitzkrieg on it.

but today i guess vinyls are more of a collectors thing. i collect and use them except for the special edition ones and the autographed vinyls i have

vinyls are the big black discs for anyone who doesnt know. i wouldnt bother buying the vinyls because they will probably stick the price up way high. im pretty sure vinyls cost more then CD's to make and getting the shit to print them would cost a bit too.

and as for the guys bitching at those guys who don't know what vinyl is, shut up. for all you know these are 10 year old kids, you can't expect these guys to know what vinyl means. people never know what something is until someone tells them or they find out for themselves

Hahahaha you guys are so funny. So everyone will stop arguing ill tell you guys what a vinyl/record is not the technical detailed way. They are big black discs that come in big square sleaves with the band name and album name on it. Your granny might have it. You put them on a machine that has a needle that touches the record and on the bottom of the machine they have this twirly thing that spins the record. In order to have the music play the needle has to touch he record and if it doesnt its common for people to out a quarter on it. Vinyls are also cool because you can hear secret stuff on songs. Like on Queen's Another one bites the dust and Led Zeppelins Stairway to Heaven. I'm only 15 and i Know what they are my step-grandma has a million boxes full of records. And i agree with ya'll (DANZIG767 and iron wolg and other people) i wish they would come to North America. I wish they would let their album out already! And if you are still confused about the vinyls then look it up on google since you have so much time on your hands to sit on your ass and talk shit on the computer.

Yeah right, anyone with a half a brain would be selling those for some outrageous price. They're collectors item(s) ffs!

true hahaha unless if it's at the DI or underneath a bunch of stuuf in an antique shop are something. Sorry about that i don't think they would be 3-5 bucks even if you could find them thanks man.

That's funny, I just bought my first vinyls after I walked passed an Oxfam music shop. I found the "Going for the one" album by Yes, The Pirates "Out of their Skulls and I can't wait to get me a vinyl player to listen to these.

To be honest though, I don't think vinyls will sound better unless you get really expensive equipment stuff to play it with but the retro mojo it adds is priceless!

Thanks. The guitar sounds ok and the drums are drums for once but i still don't like James's vocals. There's alot of rumour songs for metallica but they're are usually face or they are eternal decision songs. I'm expecting great stuff from this album. Jame's singing annoys me though I don't like all the "ooooos and yyaaaaas".

Anyway I do know what they are, but won't be buying them (mainly because I don't have a job). I have all the CDs anyway so it doesn't really matter. There's one CD I need in my collection still and that is THE NEW ALBUM goddammit!

The New Song, and
The Other New Song, are not on the New Album, they've stated that before, they ditched em due to people not liking them and they accepted they could do better, which gets me hard because those songs were actually Ok-Good, and if they said the new stuff is better that's awesome.

Man, vinyls are sweet, my teacher lent me the original Kill 'em All vinyl and it blows any cd, cassett, or audio file completly out of the water. Just playing it on a crappy walmart record player with like 2 1/2 inch speakers was almost orgasmic. Definatly getting this seeing as how I didn't have 400 bucks to buy the record box set that came out a few years ago.

so i hear it's coming out in September (The New Album) I can't believe it took them 5 years to make another album. Hey Sumzombie guy if you are still on this forum thing and you don't know what a vinyl is then scroll up until you see a big paragraph that talks about vinyls. Just trying to help, bro. Everytime there is a forum of metallica it is always about the new album, st. anger, fighting between metallica haters and metallica lovers, people saying which metallica was good and which wasn't which starts more fights and people talking about Dave Mustaine and whatnot. Weird how this was just about reissuing vinyls and there is a million comments on here.... and this news came out last week or so...
