I'm very happy with the way Metallica is handling this album. Rather than keep everything quiet and what not until release, they have basically let everyone stream their album before the release, and are doing a lot of things which make it seem they are definitely back into this for the music and not the money again.

Very, very good album - seriously - they really pulled out all the stops and went for it. Love it.

I was shocked when I heard shops were selling it already though. Bit bloody rude, imo.

Here in Sydney the album is being released on the 13th at JB-HiFi. Essencially its the same time as America, coz like they are 6 hours ahead of us; but yesterday, lol. Fingers crossed that 'tallica shows up at next years Big Day Out.

I gotta say I'm happy for em'. It is 80's metallica back with a vengeance but at the same time I also admit that I am pretty disappointed with most of the songs. The lyrics sound like there in a midlife crisis. The sound is ok though.

It's almost impossible to keep anything quiet in the modern, electronic, digital age. Rather than hiding from the internet, Metallica has been using it to promote the album and "give away" some content by allowing free streams of over half the album prior to its release. They've come a long way since the whole Napster fiasco, methinks.

That being said - the album is awesome. It's a definite "buy" in my book.

sowhat360 :
Yeah this album kicks ass. (From the 6 songs i've heard) I think this is up there with their old stuff. It's going after the classic sound but somehow it sounds fresh. This is what I wanted from metallica. I like how its thrash without any gay soft chorus like nu metallers and you can actually hear the words. A+ for metallica.

Can I add to peoples appriciations...

I'm a Metallica fan. Hell, 'Nothing Else Matters' is the one and only reason I picked up the guitar and today I can play Satriani and Vai. So looking at my own accomplishments, I'm truely in debt to these guys. But all that aside, I myself didn't expect them to pull out the quality of Death Magnetic. But I think in all honesty, one should give a big credit to Metallica for being able to be who they are, coz In my oppinion, DM isn't a look back, but a look at who Metallica essencially have always been.

Um there's 10 songs on the album. Btw I haven't heard this one riff that was in the album preview on Mission Metallica that I hope made it onto the album somehow. I shall see tonight when I get the CD from iTunes.

Well, Metallica, I must admit, I was not expecting much. But you blew my ****ing mind with this record. But, You're not back, You never left. I couldn't have asked for more. This, IMHO, is your third best album, next to puppets and ride. Keep it up. You've proved so many people wrong, you've redeemed yourself from the napster thing, The best metal band in the world is back on top.

METAL UP YOUR ASS!!!

The best song on this album is the instrumental because James vocals just aren't up to par anymore. I agree with what another poster said, he is trying to sound all angry but his voice doesn't come across that way and it ends up sounding less than stellar. I give them credit for trying to get back to their roots but the fact is if this was any other band most people would say it was an ok album but nothing special. Like I said good for them trying to get back to their roots though.

I agree, Hammett kinda sucks lol.

But, and I've said it before, the main riff in Broken, Beat & Scarred redeems Metallica in a way that no band has done in years, IMO.

Lol Yeah i'll agree with some people here, Hammett's soloing isn't spectacular on some of the songs, but on others, what he does fits perfectly.

But again, i gotta hand it to the guys for blowing my mind 10 times over with this album. And the album was indeed "nutty" and "a cross between AJFA and Black".

When I heard that live version of Cyanide a while back I was skeptical. When I heard "The Day That Never Comes", I thought it was a sad attempt at recreating something like "One". When I heard the rest of the album, any preconcieved notions I had were crushed. This album is awesome. "All Nightmare Long" is probably my favorite, along with "The Judas Kiss" and "Broken, Beat, and Scarred". Metallica finally realized that they're best at kicking ass, which they haven't done since the Black album! I will be buying this, and you should too.

You know, a lot of small time record stores in the states do that.. I got a legit copy of 10,000 Days like three days before it's "official" release date. I was talking to the guy working there, and he was saying that they receive CD's before the release date all the time, and it's their prerogative if they wanna sell it.

That aside, this is pretty much easily album of the year.

No haters, that surprise me! Maybe they realized that Metallica can make a album with old-school influences.

Or just that they got tired of all this Metallica-news on UG so they are actually burnt down. Haha.

Love the album, it totally kick ass! Guess that the next thing I have to look forward to is when Metallica plays in Norway again!

Im one of the few waiting to pay money for it, seeing I want to own this album, seeing it will be the make or break album of their career and it would be nice to own it either way.

But from what people say, sounds like its worth it.

They are coming to Little Rock, but the commercial are so stupid. Does anyone else have them? They have the whole band talking about how they love... and then some announcer comes in and says "Little Rock, AR. The Alltell Arena" and Lars says, "has always been our home away from home. I guess it shows they do have a good sense of humor though.

it gets better with more listens. the main criticism i would say is that its incoherant, songs dont have obvious themes nor does the album. its not esoteric like tool, its like they have just added words that would fit rather than having meaningful songs. Hetfields singing is fine actually if it had dave lombardo on it would be a metal classic!

iVE HAD THE ALBUM FOR ABOUT A WEEK OR MORE AND IT HAS BEEN ON A LOOP SINCE THEN. ITS SO DAMN GOOD. I THINK THE REAL GEM ON THE ALBUM IS SONG NUMBER 5, "ALL NIGHTMARE LONG". FOR THOSE THAT HAVENT HEARD, IT WILL ROCK YOU SO HARD. EASILY IN TOP 3 OF METALLICA ALBUMS, COULD PUSH FOR THE BEST. METALLICA GAVE US WHAT WE ALL CRAVED AND THEY DELIVERED SO MUCH MORE.

Yeah, same here. There a couple okay leads, like the unforgiven iii, but the rest sounds real sloppy and uninspired. There is something about his tone i don't like on this album. I think the best parts of his solos on this album are the ones where he uses the wah pedal

I thought the snare sound was a bit bad at first, too. It's grown on me. It goes very well with the 'natural' sound of the guitarwork, great job on the guitar EQ by the way. I'm a guitarist, not a drummer, so it's not like I have a huge background in drum tones, but I will say two snare tones that made me say, "Wow, that's a good snare." are Trivium's off of Shogun, and Slipknot's off of All Hope is Gone. Death Magnetic is a phenominal album, and I can't wait to have the physical record rather than the 320 kb/s digital download. Love this album.
