MGMT have stated that they don't want to release any singles from their upcoming record Congratulations. The duo said that the Spring 2010 sophomore album is meant to be a whole record and not one with a few popular singles.
"We'd rather people hear the whole album as an album and see what tracks jump out rather than the ones that get played on the radio – if anything gets played on the radio!" said Ben Goldwasser.
Unlike their debut,
Goldwasser explained that he thinks there aren't stand-out tracks on the new release.
"There definitely isn't a "Time To Pretend or a "Kids" on the album," he said. "We've been talking about ways to make sure people hear the album as an album in order and not just figure out what are the best three tracks, download those and not listen to the rest of it."
Congratulations is being recorded in New York with help from producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips). Their last album, Oracular Spectacular, was released in 2007 and went Gold in both the US and Canada. Because of the record's success, the duo were nominated for the 2010 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals for the song "Kids".
I was already looking forward to this, as by other news it appeared to be completely different, but now I can't wait for it to come out.
