For those of you who haven’t heard of them, they’re Motorhead, the self-proclaimed greatest rock and roll band in the world. And they’ve just recorded a new version of one of their most famous songs.
The group have written and recorded a myriad of critically acclaimed pieces like “Stone Dead Forever” and “Overkill”, but the one that can truly be considered Motorhead’s definitive song is “Ace Of Spades”, the song the band chose to re-record.
While the recording hasn’t been released yet, apparently it will be quite different from the original. It’s been reported that the song will be quite bluesy, with Lemmy actually playing the harmonica in it.
The song is being recorded again to be used in a beer commercial - more specifically a Kronenbourg 1664 advertisement set to air in a few days. Afterwards, you’ll be able to download the song at Kronenbourg’s official website.
In other news, Motorhead are starting a UK tour early November. If you didn’t get a chance to catch the dates and venues when they were first announced, be sure to check them out at this location. They’re also planning to release their twentieth studio album, “The World Is Yours”, in early 2011, so be sure to keep an ear out.
A preview of the acoustic "Ace of Spades" is available at this location:
Ahh Lemmy was in crisp and butter adverts long before this, we all know Lemmy's got a completely adamant integrity anyway, besides I'm quite looking forward to hearing this new blues version of Ace of Spades, if it's anything like "Whorehouse Blues", it should be a cracker
I've seen Motorhead three times, over the last couple of years, and the setlists have been almost identical. I'm not sure if i should go see them again. Its so loud you can barely hear the songs anyway. They were good at Download though, cause you could actually hear the songs.
why would lemmy do this? BECAUSE HES LEMMY AND HE CAN DO WHAT HE FUCKING WANTS
This man speaks the truth, let's be fair Lemmy is like 60 something by now, and for motorhead to be going 35 years I think he's at the stage where he can do what he likes.
Man. this is a great idea. I was actually listening to Sabbath this morning and I thought "They should go back in the studio and re record all their greatest song with the new recording technology." Plus all musicians get better through the years, so imagine what Tony Iommi could do with his old songs with his new skills. Man it would be so sick.
People and cryn about bands "selling out" Gimme a break. You only say that cause your not the one getting the millions from doing a commercial or whatever. Now if Lemmy were to do a song on the disney channel about the alphabet I might say hes sellign out. Then again hed do it his way and it would probably be awesome.

For those of you who haven’t heard of them, they’re Motorhead, the self-proclaimed greatest rock and roll band in the world. I think that anyone who don't know Motorhead shouldn't be on this page, and shouldn't start to play guitar before he learn who are MOTORHEAD

Sorry for the double post but they honestly have no choice. Lemmy started in the slums with a band and struggled even after their best stuff. This is the only way they can live. When you can't think of anything else to write and you need money =P
How many bands aside from Motorhead have had songs featured in commercials? Just about every good one.
Not only is he advertising that product, but this is promotion for Motorhead as well. If anyone on this site would be willing enough to be objective and think in terms of most people; Motorhead is a one-hit wonder band if that. They are not that famous outside of people who invest a lot of their time in music. Good promotion is always a valuable asset to have.
If Lemmy wants to advertise beer, then he can. Lemmy's done ads before, but he's done them very sporadically and never tried to be in everyone's faces. I say let 'em have fun and let's enjoy something which doesn't happen often, Motorhead singing the blues!
Also, they never claimed the were the greatest rock band in the world. They often claim that they are one of the loudest bands, which is no great fabrication of the truth!
Its a BEER commerical, and Kronenbourg is good stuff. Hopefully the commercial itself is badass. Motorhead contributing to a beer company is not selling out, its rock n roll. BEER!

I disagree. He is selling out but to things he loves. I'm sure soon he'll rerecord The Game for a Cialis commercial.
I'm looking forwards to hearing the new version but I hate it when bands allow their music to be used in adverts.
I despise the advertising industry.
Bands don't necessarily "sell out" just because they use their songs in adverts. If they're promoting something that they like and it fits their image then I say go for it. Lemmy would have sold out if he re-recorded this song for something like a soppy rom-com film. Yeh?
TBH i think this blues version of Ace of Spades will be much much better than the Goldon Wonder Pot noodle ads from the 80's where Goldon Wonder butchered the song.... HORRIFICALLY.... anyway let him do what he wants,
if anyone keeps mentioning setlists, whats wrong with it? it has all the good stuff in it and i dare say after three tours of the samne setlist it's changed this year...., Give Lemmy and co a break yeah?
motorhead isn't really a rock and roll band. theyre metal
Are you taking the piss? You have clearly never seen Motorhead live. the first thing Lemmy always says when they come on stage is "We are Motorhead, We play Rock n Roll".
Its a BEER commerical, and Kronenbourg is good stuff. Hopefully the commercial itself is badass. Motorhead contributing to a beer company is not selling out, its rock n roll. BEER!
Like you said- Kronenbourg is good stuff! In fact its freakin' good stuff. Theres not many pubs round here do it, so its always a fave of mine.
And Motorhead- can't knock 'em one bit. Seeing 'em in Nov. Again. Never gets old. Never gets any newer, but it never gets old! =D
I wouldn't call this selling out at all. It's an excellent way to advertise the band as a whole to millions of viewers AND they get paid for it. Plus it's not like it's for spongebob squarepants or bambi, it's a beer commericial. Get over it and stop whining.
That's pretty ****in' wicked! I knew there was a reason I love Motorhead. It's nice to hear a rock/metal band actually embracing new sounds and opening their minds.
For all thosde who say its selling you are wrong as selling out is when you use your skills/talents for something "YOU" fundamentally disagree with, and you do it for personal gain. Lemmy/Motorhead are beer drinkers so advertising for a beer brand cannot be selling out. For those who would complain they are doing it for money alone should realise that after Motorhead pay there road crew and travel costs they do not come out with much but as Lemmy once said its either be an under paid musician or work in a factory.
Totally agree with freighttrain. How on earth is this "selling out". Motorhead have produced 19 albums of extremely heavy, uncompromising, music. Go see them live, then tell me you still think they are "selling out" once you can hear again. When you there is a Motorhead album with a commercial beat that has been dictated by the record company, then cast your accusations! As for the harmonica, Lemmy has been using this at live shows for years.
Each to their own I say. People do what they do for a reson and none of us know the circumstances surrounding Lemmy's decision to do this, and why should we give a ****? We all need money and the easiest way for a musician to make money is through his music. It's not like they're U2 or the Chili Peppers.
motorhead isn't really a rock and roll band. theyre metal
"We are motorhead and we play rock n roll!"
Anyone whos actually seen them live will know this.
In metal maverick's defense, Britney Spears could start each of her concerts with "I'm Britney Spears, and I play death metal," but that wouldn't make it true. IMO Motorhead are metal while simultaneously being rock and roll.
Jesus people get a life. Its not about making money anymore for these guys, its about enjoyment in the fact that people have appreciated their carrer as a great rock/metal band. I think they are just showing us that they can addapt their music and change it to suit what sattisfys us. Lets face it, any of us, whether talented in music or not, could not play this song and generate the same effect as these guys have. Its brilliant what they have done and its because of us that they are still here. If you tell me you haven't heard this song blaring out of a radio and enjoyed it at some point in your life then I'd call you a liar. No harsh feelings nayone, I don't even particularly like the majority of their music, but I appreciate the fact that these guys are rock and roll and they have reached everyone of us at some stage.
