here's a surprising fact: bodom's new album debuted at #22 on the billboard 200 and #2 on top independent albums. comparatively, that's much more impressive seeing bodom is heavy ass shit. but still sweet for motorhead though.

Haha Someone just got their arse handed to them.
Thoroughly deserved, in my opinion - Motorhead have been grossly underrated for years. Will be seeing em when their tour hits the UK - It's annoying that the gig's 2 months away, but Life's A Bitch, I guess...
These guys are the ultimate Rock band - The misfits, the underdogs. All Hail Motorhead

im not a fan...

how are they doing fine, with average album sales, "fine" is a bit broad for a band that are supposedly metal gods...

Supposedly? Motorhead is a 30 year old metal institution. Bands have come and gone while Motorhead kept playing. If their chart position "says something" about Motorhead, their longevity must mean something too.

how does the indie charts work?

i'm assuming that motorhead is signed to a major label, so how could they be on the indie chart? Do you have to be on an indie label to get on the indie chart?

me=confused

Because everyone knows why Motorhead are, and they actually have skill.

Chart position means nothing in the end. Doesn't mean they aren't big. I mean come on, look at alot of bands. Never break into the top 40 but yet still tour in arena venues? Debuts are just to look flashy. The real stuff is long term sales.

Well I don't know where you have been but for the most part,The higher rung of the metal ladder dont really sell millions and millions of albums in there first week or month or whatever. You also can't really judge a band for where they debut on ****ing billboard, obviously, since we all know the next miley cyrus/jonas bros albums will be ****ing number one for 3 months.

On another note, looking foward to getting a listen to this record.

82nd on the billboards isn't average album sales. There are millions and millions of bands out there putting out albums and the majority of them will never even be on the billboards. And being metal gods has more to do with coming our with ground breaking music and being influencial then just album sales. Before bands like motorhead and the misfits, metalheads and punk kids hated each other and could never agree on the same bands, but when motorhead came along both of these crowds were attending their concerts and getting along with each other.

So in conclusion, being metal gods has very little to do with mainstream success. And this rule applies to other genres. How are the stooges the godfathers of punk? Their albums sold like crap when they were around in the 70's. And bands like mudhoney, green river and the melvins are grunge gods but they never had mainstream success either. And the american band pentagram are doom metal gods but they have never been on the billboards at all.
Ask any big metal band if motorhead are metal gods and most of them will say yes. If it wasn't for motorhead then bands like metallica, slayer and megadeth probably wouldn't be around today, they were all influenced by motorhead.

You, sir, are an idiot of the highest caliber.
They are a band that don't care how many albums they sell, so they're doing quite well in that respect. They are a band that hit their 'commercial peak' 20 years ago, but are still charting and still recording. Last but not least, they are a band with a f**king HUGE fan draw when they tour, because they are that well loved.

wow that must seriously SUCK, i feel bad for you !! hope you will get the chance to see them again.

i cant wait for them to do the show in Montreal, going to see them in 9 days for the first time!!
The new album is kick ass, all the songs rock hard ! its good to see motorhead getting some of the recognition they deserve.
They are ****ing Rock n Roll and Metal Legends whether the stupid billboard shows it or not !!

im not sure whats better, the album, or the ownage been experienced by one tdrules..... clearly the album, but what do you expect when you question motorheas ''metal gods'' status. how bout the fact they have had a serious influence on/over every hard rock and heavy metal band over the last 30 years.

plus lemmy is god , so by default the band has ''god'' status

Because your uncles rubber broke when he was plowing yer mama?

The billboard top 200 means exactly shit. I'm pretty sure that Ride The Lightning, Rust In Peace, Cowboys From Hell and countless other classic albums didn't even touch the charts (just an assumption, I know Far Beyond Driven debuted at #2). Just the fact that 30 years later they are still this relevant to the scene speaks for itself.

Who would win in fight? Lemmy or God?

Free to Guitar :
First, the indie chart thing: Motorhead is signed to SPV of Germany, under their Steamhammer label. So they go under the indie chart... even if they do distribute artists like Alice Cooper.

Now, the album. Motorhead has never been an "experimental" band, so Motorizer isn't anything new. But after listening to it, it's still pretty goddamn awesome. "Rock Out," "The Thousand Names of God," (Teach You How to) Sing the Blues," and "Heroes" are some of the best tracks they've done in a while. Like AC/DC, Motorhead simply never dies. Difference being, I like Motorhead.
