Muse: 'It's Time To Do Something Radically Different On Our Next Album'

Muse's Chris Wolstenholme has said that the band want to do something "radically different" on their next album.

With the band currently working on the follow-up to their 2009 album "The Resistance", the bassist told Kerrang! magazine that it felt like they were "drawing a line" under their past and were eager to embrace new ideas.

He said:

"[The band] feel like we are drawing a line under a certain period of what we've done in our career. It feels like it's time to move on and do something radically different."

However, he also admitted that it wasn't always easy to progress and push their sound forward, adding: "But then you could get into the studio and go back to what you're comfortable with. You get in the studio and there's a natural process and you have to see where a song will take you."

Muse's new LP will be their sixth studio album and is due to be released in late 2012. The band have not given any details on who will be acting as producer for the record as yet.

Last month, online rumours that the Devon trio had split up were revealed to be a hoax. Reports that the band had parted ways spread when a fake NME.COM page was circulated throughout Twitter and on the band's official message board Board.Muse.mu.

I liked their new album, and I liked their earlier albums.. So I hope they don't draw that line to drastically.

what they need to do is not incorporate as much pop/hip hop into their music. their first albums were fantastic, like stockholm syndrome and knights of cydonia. the resistance took more of a pop/mainstream turn, and hopefully the band realizes that they probably lost some fans on their album because of it

You can't call an album as divers as The Resistance trash, when it has the magnitude of diversity it had. They spanded from Unnatural Selection to Guiding Light and even found a way to pump up a classical syphonic performance, with rock and roll.

If there's dubstep in it im gonna put my foot through it. I think it's gonna be at bit more stripped back with more acoustics. Hopefully no 'symphony' songs like on the last album, that was awful.

If the new album's good, kudos to Muse. If the new album is a bunch of mainstream generic crap, I'll buy The Resistance (because I haven't because it just doesn't get me going like their first four albums. It's like the black album of Muse. It sold a crap-ton, but ride the symmetry was just so much cooler).

I like all of Muse' albums. I have never understood why people get butthurt when a band do something different, something that isn't their last record(s).

Yep, Resistance was radio friendly and mainstream. It was still ****ing awesome, MK Ultra being the highlight of the album and probably one of Muse's top songs. How about that 3 part symphony Matt Bellamy wrote himself. I would rather a band be creative and artistic than become stale.

That's just the way I see it.

Moving forward is a band's natural way of avoiding boredom and monotony. So many people get too upset that they don't like the new sound. I'm more than happy to embrace what they come up with in the future.

Advice for all haters: do something (musically) by yourself (and I don't mean small band which play in small clubs). Just do something big and then start to criticize other people work otherwise it sounds like: Oh, I'm so ****ing cool and if I were Matt, I could do everything ****ing fantastic!

I'd like more OoS as everyone would, I liked The Resistance but my tastes have gotten heaver, and I'd rather hear what some custom Mansons can do rather than a computer.
