Muse: New Album To Have '15-Minute Space-Rock Solo'

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed his plans for the band’s future.

The star explained that he’d like their next album to feature more prog influences as well as a dancier feel.

Talking to NME, the singer and guitarist said: "I think on the next album I’d like to do at least one 15-minute space-rock solo."

He added: "Apart from that, 'Supermassive Black Hole' (2006 UK Top Five single) opened up a new area for us of dancing, grooving, rhythm section-dominated songs. I’d love to do more stuff like that really."

In related news, Muse are playing at the Royal Albert hall as part of the charity shows for the Teenage Cancer Trust next month. The band said there's not gonna be the usual lights and special effects though.

Muse have also admitted they'd be up for writing the next James Bond theme.

As one of the biggest British bands of the moment - Matt Bellamy says - he doens't see them performing it, but has someone in mind who could.

More Prog = Good News from these guys, that means something a little darker and something super epic. That's good that they're keeping the dance element in there so there's still punchy songs that are still catchy as hell (a Muse signature, Plug-In Baby or The Small Print anyone?) so they're not just tripping out all the time. That's what Mars Volta is for. I totally think they could pull of the Bond theme too, listen to "Black Holes & Revelations" and watch Casino Royale, they could have totally gone together. There were romantic songs (Invincible), epic songs (Take a Bow, Knights of Cydonia, Map of the Problematique), badass songs (Assassin),and classy songs (City of Delusion). To re-cap: Romantic, epic, badass and classy. Sounds like a Bond flick to me.

I can't see what the big deal about these guys are. I mean I haven't heard many of their songs, but all the ones I've heard are fall-asleep boring. I guess I'm missing out on some of the good ones. Knights of Cydonia is so mind-numbing to play in Guitar Hero 3 that it turns me off to them, but you can never judge a band by a few songs right? Hysteria, on the other hand, has a sweet bass riff & that's one that I do like.

I was so in love with everything Muse had done up until 2003 that when BH&R came out, it took me weeks to actually listen to the full album. Nevertheless, I love BH&R just as much as any other album of theirs and I applaud Muse for keeping real music alive in these oh-so-emo times. Still, I have no apprehensions about their music getting more dancy, I'm a little afraid of the space-rock solo idea because if they end up sounding like Rush (who I can not stand) I will be dissapointed to no end.

Not necessarily. If a band deviates from the signature sound too much, they become another band. The thing is that most people freak out at slightest change.

Metallica, while not terrible, is far too overrated. Oversimplification after ...And Justice For All was the worst career move ever. You know what I mean.

As for Hammett being the best guitarist ever, you have no clue. It's your opinion, but stating it like a fact makes you look stupid. Especially when modern guitarists like Thomas Erak, Alexis Pareja, Paul Waggoner, Muhammed Suiçmez, Christopher Bradley,
Fredrik Thordendal, and Luc Lemay (this list could go on forever) play solos and great music.
If you have heard any of them, you'll know they are pretty technical, even if you don't like their respective bands' style.

I haven't heard much Muse, but I do like Knights of Cydonia. If the new album is in vain of that song, then I'm gunna tempted to check it out.

I miss the raw rock sounds of the earlier albums but every song that they play sounds distinctly Muse. The band evolves one step forward with every album.

As for the retard with the Metallica comment, often Matthew Bellamy's ability to shred is camouflaged by effects like the Whammy pedal. It helps if you know a little bit about the people you're insulting. It makes you look like less of a moron because then you're not usualy completely wrong.

PEOPLE PEOPLE this is totally old news! I'm pretty sure Mr. Bellamy said something like this awhile back and as far as the Bond theme goes, Matt himself said the band wouldn't do the Bond theme, sad to say.
As far as 15 minute solos go though, I don't know if I'd be up for that. Don't the Mars Volta do something similar? and when I heard those songs I sat and cried like a little girl for a good portion of it. I'm up for a dancier muse though long as they keep rockin and dont turn into mainstream trash like Panic or FoB

Muse (Bellamy in particular) is overrated. I hate the label "art rock" and I hate how it gets applied to them. As a composer, he's good. As a keyboardist, he's great. As a guitarist, he's far from being anything special.

If a fantastic guitarist like David Gilmour or Alex Lifeson played a 15-minute solo, it would bore me eventually. If Matt Bellamy did, the results would be potentially fatal. Yawn.

No offense to Muse, they're still one of my favorite bands, particularly live; but I think they're seriously developing their sound in the exact opposite direction of what they need to. The infiltration of synths and overbearing production really hurt the last two albums. The biggest successes on BH&R were based on the spaghetti-western sound. Personally I think additional world influences: say Indian or Egyptian scales, or maybe some African polyrhythms would do them more good than this direction. Honestly as much as I like Rush I don't want Muse to be Rush Version 2.0, which seems to be where they're going.

As of MUSE, I love EVERYTHING they've made. What a brilliant band. I have high expectations for the new album...but I am a tad worried about the 15 minute solo...hope they can pull it off...
