Muse Not Ready To Record New LP

Muse Not Ready To Record New LP

Muse don't look likely to release any new material soon, according to bassist Chris Wolstenholme.

Despite their last album being released over two years ago, the band are still a long way off from recording anything, with only a handful of songs having been started, reports Angryape.com.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, Wolstenholme said:

"There's about six or seven songs that we've started work on but they're still very young. I don't think there's anything that we're ready to record yet."

"We just wanted to get started this year, to get the ball rolling a little bit rather than wait for a year doing nothing then get in the studio, and go, 'What do we do now?'. Sometimes you can suffer from having too much time off."

Asked about what to expect from their new work, Wolstenholme hinted to a change in direction:

"We're looking to do new things and we'll just try and do things that are kind of alien to us, you know, and things we haven't done before 'cos that's what we find challenging about making music."

It'll be worth the wait but damn, I was almost expecting a release date to be set soon. They're moving pretty slow.

They can't make their mind up can they!?
It's gonna be ages before release, then it gets changed to very soon, then ages again etc. It's starting to get quite annoying.
I think they're keeping everything quite quiet and might actually have more recorded than they are letting on.

theyve always been bad at deadlines tho right?

it took ages for black holes to appear. which as an album im still split on. but obviously black holes is still a good album. id love it if they took one step forward two steps back if you get what i mean. pick up some new kind of style, a newer sound, whilst still keeping, or even reviving something from an older muse era.

so yeah people...and dnt be all freaked out when they try somethin totally different agn...it's nothing new...they've been doing it since the first album..lol.

Don't really like arguing about this but besides the falsetto, what musically does muse relate to in radiohead? The pablo honey era? Certainly not because every bit of pablo honey blows (besides stop whispering, cause its damn good). The bends? Hardly, no sound of muse is in there at all. The bends is soft with 3 tight hard songs, but none of these sound like Showbiz or OoS at all. OK Computer shares no songs that sound the same musically because they are all such downer songs (lyrically, some musically too being no suprises and climbing up the walls. The only resemblence I see is with Motion Picture Soundtrack with the huge ****in organ like Muse used (albeit afterwards) on Megalomania and Invincible.

I need to hear a counter-arguement.....now. And detailed not "Geez can't you hear it, it's so obvious".

powerstroke wrote on 09/06/2008 - 05:26 am / quote |
P.s. Thom yorke has yet to apply for a copyright on the use of falsetto in rock, so anyone can use it, it's fair game.

And related to the article, it sucks it's gonna take a while but knowing muse, it'll turn out absolutlely amazing. Also, any track they don't love will turn up as some tight b-side. It always ends will with them. Who knows, maybe they'll do a little EP for the hell of it like the Dead Star/In Your World EP. I would buy it in a heartbeat at least.

Seriously though, when has an album schedule said by a band ever been true? They always say it's going to come out at a certain time and then realise they have to spend ages mastering it and such or sorting out record label shit.
But more specifically I don't care when muse's new album comes out coz it will be sick as and therefore worth the wait.

hey. i like muse. quite a bit. and i never said they rip off radiohead, but that i thought that a lot of their earlier songs (especially off absolution) were influenced enough by radiohead that there are a lot of similarities.

listen to "sing for absolution" and then "lucky" off OK Computer. "lucky" stays pretty soft throughout while "sing for absolution" bumps up the distortion towards the end. im not saying they're the same song im just saying that musically they are pretty similar. listen to "in limbo" off kid a and "endlessly" from muse. same deal there. also listen to "black star" off the bends and tell me you it doesn't sound like muse.

again, i dont think they completely rip off radiohead, like i said, im glad they're starting to go their own direction because they're a damn good band. but you can't tell me that there's no similarities between the two

i like muse, and it's a shame its gonna be a long wait for the album... but i do find it a bit strange that they get so much worship from everyone! they're very good, yes, particularly live, but i find some aspects of their music irritating (the vocals, and the rather over-indulgent compositions in certain songs)... maybe i'm missing something, but i fail to see true "genius" in their work. will still look forward to what should be an interesting album though!

In true Muse article tradition the ol' Radiohead have popped up...it's such a shame they can't shake them, even years after Showbiz and The Bends. (By this I mean those are the albums I find most similar) FUN FACT: they were produced by the same guy: John Leckie - who's copying who now eh? So both bands have a penchant for minor chords, oh noes! I'm sure Bellamy can't really help that fact he has short vocal chords, does that mean he has to write songs differently JUST to avoid the RH comparisons? Unfair I say. RH are amazing, what's wrong with sounding like a GOOD band? It's because of the comparisons Muse ended up spewing out pop tarts like Starlight, which just breaks my heart. I say MORE bands need to sound like both of these bands!

Is it just me, or has it become "cool" to like Muse quite recently. Sure, there are many fans from years ago, but they do seem to have a similar thing goin' to the Coldplay-buzz.
I believe it is called "winning people over."

Muse are a band that manage to be interesting to musicians and non-musicians alike. Weird, but never at the expense of a song. It should be no surprise that they're not exactly a secret anymore.

haha +1

I don't really see that all that much here in the states. Not quite as big though they still get some airtime. I think their still snowballing despite having a few albums under the belt

id love it if they took one step forward two steps back if you get what i mean. pick up some new kind of style, a newer sound, whilst still keeping, or even reviving something from an older muse era.

I think that they did that with BHaR- don't the last thre tracks have something very Darkshines about them? I also think that Invincible is a bit like Eternaly Missed.

I almost hope they never become popular with how radio and mtv, vh1, and fuse will play one song of a bands to death to the point where no one like them anymore. I'm perfectly happy with them just where they are, making music because they love it regardless of how much fame it gets them.

i dunno about this. after origin's, they've been getting worse in my opinion. we need some of the old Muse back, with some music to jump to!

If you can't jump to Knights Of Cydonia, Stockholme Syndrome, Hysteria, etc. than your legs must just be broken or something, also, see them in concert and tell me you can raise your arms and clap along to Starlight, or raise your fist during the solo of Invincible. If every album sounded like OOS then Muse would become boring.

I will wait becuase I know it will be awesome!

I disagree to you...
...I agree to Discoprincess' comment above mine and I might add that if anyone wants to listen to a band constantly sounding the same I recommend MOTЦRHEAD...

It was three years between Absolution and Black Holes and people managed to wait then. People should stop being so impatient.
